  1. Morning to you all, I hope everyone is well or if not well on the road to recovery.

It's a nice bright sunny day down here and feels pleasantly warm. Our garden squelches when you walk on it and my mother's garden flooded with all the rain we've had.

I can't believe that it is over 4 weeks since I got back from my cruise and haven't been on here in all that time.😲 We had a lovely cruise and after the stress of getting there. The return journey was the complete opposite, problem free. We landed on time, got to the station early and the assistance team arranged for us to get an earlier train and travel first class.

A lot has been going on since we got back,  One of my sons has moved back in, so we have had to rearrange things to make room for him and his stuff. With the stress of it all I've been having more pains in my head and headaches. On the happier note. My daughter has got engated. We've had a meal out for my other son's birthday, with not just one birthday case, but two! OH invited him round for Sunday dinner while we were out, the others commented that that was favouritism, so they all came too! And of course another birthday cake.

Off now to catch up with some of the other threads.

12.15 boarding pretty early , were you in Suite or high level (Liguirian )  pennisular  club member , thought they used to have priority check in and hospitality lounge. Has this gone (covid excuse for cut backs)

No, a standard balcony cabin on one of the higher decks and only  Mediterrean in tier.

  3. My mother uses a folding wheelchair and we have had no issues booking a standard cabin. We had a standard cabins on Iona and Britannia and have a de-luxe cabin booked on Arvia.

We had booked assistance for my mother on Britannia last year, but on arrival at the port they had no knowledge of it, although on board they did have notification of her allergy. Both of which were sent to P&O at the same time and acknowledged.

On our most recent cruise (January) I declared a walking stick for my husband, but it was queried at the airport?

I now take a hard copy of the completed questionaire to prove my point.

  4. We flew out to Malta from Bristol in 2022 (TUI) we had to collect our luggage from the carousel and it was then transported by lorry to the ship and we re-united with it outside our cabin. On the return journey the cases were put out the night before and we collected them at Bristol.

Earlier this year we flew (Jet2 charter) to Tenerife again from Bristol and had to collect our luggage on arrival. It was then transported on the coach we travelled to in to the port. It was unloaded by crew who delivered it to our cabin. For the return it was the same procedure as above. Cases out the night before and collected at the airport on landing.

  5. More problems this morning🙄 Had booked assistance to take us to the terminal, but they didn't come. Reception chased them up, they denied any request despite hotel having received a conformation email. Eventually got to the terminal to assistance desk, they couldn't process the request until we had checked luggage in and had boarding passes. At check in desk there was a query regarding OH walking stick, although I had filled in the appropriate paperwork required by P&O! Am now sitting in departure lounge waiting to go to the gate.

I will finally relax when I'm in the air.

Will give you a full report when I get back.

  6. We have finally arrived at Bristol Airport after a long journey. It has only taken us 7 hours! The snow that caused railway points to freeze at St Erth was only very localised, and was clear a few miles up the road, but snowy again around Truro. It seemed all the trains were running late too.

Hope you've all had a better day than mine has been.

The main road - past Cristiano Ronaldo’s place was taped off, so the first initiative test for walkers was to find an alternative.  We took the high road, through the elevated park on the left going in, others used a tunnel.  It all helped towards 16,000steps yesterday! 😳

Oh - anyone due to visit & using the shuttle bus - it now drops and picks up at the general bus terminus, near the cable car

Thank you for the information as we are due to call at Funchal on Monday and again the following week on Azura.

  8. Good morning,

Coldest day on record here, according to my phone's app, at -2c.

We went out for a meal last night to save cooking and OH car was saying it was 21c😕I think not!!

I'm all packed and ready to head of to Bristol to join Azura tomorrow. I am looking forward to some warmer weather.

Hope everyone has a good day, stay safe and warm.

  9. Avril, Glad to hear that Frank is improving and hope your colds get better soon.

It's -1c down here this morning, but clear blue sky and sun.

I received a phone call yesterday with my MRI results, so at least I didn't have to go round the houses again. Ithen spent a lot of time trying to sort out travel insurance. According to the oncology nurse who rang my scan shows treatment reaction, so not all good news, but not bad either, and will have another scan in six months. Now that is sorted I will get on with my packing, time is ticking by.

    Take care and stay warm.

    Morning.

It’s been an interesting week here. Mum’s not been good, it took both my sister and I to get her out of bed, bathed and dressed on Tuesday morning. She then had a call from her physio, told her how everything was getting worse and the physio told her to go straight to A&E.

We spent several hours there with her going through various assessments and she was eventually sent home with a change of pain relief and an order to return if she gets either numbness down below or loss of ‘control’.

Shes got an MRI in two weeks, but doc thinks it’s Spinal Stenosis and at least one slipped disc. My sister and I persuaded her to let us make a temporary bedroom for her in their dining room so we’ve been rearranging furniture and my husband moved the bed downstairs and she’s been relieved to not have to manage the stairs twice a day.

They are going to cancel coming on Britannia with us in May, fortunately not a big deposit to loose.

Five weeks until our Grandson number two is due so we really need mum settled and improving by then or I may end up in a frazzled heap. 🥴

Sorry to ramble on, that was quite therapeutic getting all that off my chest 😂

Sorry to hear about your Mum. Hope she doesn't have to wait long for her MRI results so then can get things sorted.

As others have said ramble away. It helps!

  11. A dull, grey day here at 4c but feels a lot colder. At least it's dry and not windy.

Taking a trip up to Truro this morning, and it will be the scenic route as the A30 is closed all weekend. Hopefully I can then get on and finish the dress I'm making and I intend to make a start on the packing for next week. Wish me luck!

Have a good weekend everyone, whatever you have planned.

Purplesea I hope that you get your answer on Monday and early in the day , nothing worse sat waiting all day for a phone call.

Thank you. Have arranged to meet a friend for coffee Monday morning, who I haven't seen for a while, so will get phone calls diverted to my moblie.

  13. Things haven't gone to plan this week. I ordered some zips which have arrived but the colours aren't suitable, so was going to take a trip up to Truro to get the ones I need, but had problems with the car.  Plus I been battling with  the hospital to get my MRI results. I have spent a good portion of today trying to find get answers and am not much further forward. Rang several times this morning and left a message,  got a phone call from the doctor, who can't answer my questions regarding my travel insurance, but he did inform me that they would be looking at my scan on Monday and said he would ring me on Monday,🤞 if not for me to ring on Tuesday. We leave home to travel up the the airport on Thursday to join Azura on Friday. Things are not going well!

    A very good evening😊

A very good result from today's procedure and Frank is back home where he belongs. After 15 days of worry he has had his bp tablets and his statin removed, and 1 added. Believe it or not, an iron tablet. He had another echo scan and they have decided against the need for a heart tablet, however regular gentle exercise which is no problem as he's always active,  a  low salt diet, moderate fluids, an echo scan in 6 months and yearly after that. We cannot believe how close we came to losing him and to come home with only an iron tablet.

    Avril xx

I want to thank all the wonderful people who have sent me best wishes and prayers via Av. She has read me every one and I am overwhelmed by the kindness, help and advice from people we have never met. I am grateful for all the support you gave Av because I know it kept her going when things got a bit 'hairy'

    You're a great bunch.

    Frank

So glad to read that Frank is home again and the only medication needed is an iron tablet.

Wishing you both well and take care.
