  1. Seasoned cruisers new to HAL. Looking to book a 7 night on Nieuw Amsterdam. Have 2 questions for anyone who has recently sailed on her. I already tried searching the boards but didn’t come up with answers specific to this ship. 1- how fast is the WIFI onboard and what was the cost for unlimited access? 2- are there any cabanas overlooking a pool area? Specifically want to keep an eye on my teens, but don’t need to be right there with them the whole time. Thank you you in advance for any insights!
  2. All very helpful responses, thank you. Am mainly interested in better wines at dinner and patron silver for cocktails, so for us upgrading makes sense. Will attempt the upgrade onboard. Got the package as a promo when booking, so will see if it’s possible... How is the wine service at meals and the bar service around the pools and in the lounges? Sometimes these drink packages cause a decrease in the level of bar service. What is everyone’s experience with this? Thanks again!
  3. Wondering what happens if you order a drink over the $9 limit. Do you pay the difference or are you charged for the entire drink?
  4. Thanks for this comparison! We are sailing on HAL for the first time this summer. We are 40 something professionals and we travel with our two teenagers. We are elite on Celebrity. We usually sail in top tier suites. We originally had booked a similar Med itinerary on X, but it was a B2B which isn’t ideal, and we would need to switch cabins midway. We had an aft penthouse on the 2nd leg which we do love. So when I saw a similar itinerary on HAL, same length, with a corner aft suite and an adjoining aft suite I booked that too. We were shocked that the 2 suites combined are about half the price of the total trip on X! Your review puts me at ease that we will enjoy the HAL experience.
  5. Hi! Just found this and read the whole thing in a day. Thank you for writing such an insightful trip report with great info for future travelers. We are also from Boston! Am looking to book almost this exact itinerary and the same cabin you stayed in (and the one next to it). Would you recommend the cabin? Do you happen to have any photos of your balcony? Am wondering specifically if you think 4 people would fit on it. Thanks again! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. I literally LOLd at this. It’s actually true [emoji23] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Fantastic! Hoping our children choose to join us for vacations when they are adults. Have a wonderful trip! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. https://amzn.to/2znln7e Maybe consider bringing a few of these. Amazon has a bunch of different styles, about $10 for 15 containers Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. Sure, if you don’t want to pay for space and pampering it’s probably not for you guys. We happen to enjoy both those things quite a bit so will likely continue to book a PH when it’s available. Agree there is a price point for everyone where it ceases to make sense, of course... Don’t know anything about teatime as I never asked for it to be served, but clotted cream quality likely depends on the skill of that sailing’s chef 🤷*♀️ Maybe someone else can weigh in on this one. 10. Thank you very much for this info! This does all sound great. Will definitely put Princess in the running next time. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. Agree, this was my impression as well. Thanks for elaborating. Will check it out in Europe next summer Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. No problem at all. Possibly because DH was booked in one cabin and I was booked in the other? The port people really didn’t seem interested in our wine at all Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. Thanks! Can’t go wrong with AQ. Looking forward to photos of the EDGE. Won’t be long now! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. Thanks so much! Agreed, we started out with a big suite because we are with our children. DH and I agree that if it’s ever just the 2 of us a balcony cabin would be perfectly lovely. It’s funny, when the kids were little I longed for the day when it’s just the two of us again. Now that college is looming, I’m dreading it! Luminae is quite nice and worth a try if you’re curious. But I think the theme here is it’s hard to go wrong no matter which cabin you select. Sounds like you’ll have a good time no matter what! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
