I always thought that passports were not required for U.S.cruisers that were on cruises that started and ended on U.S. soil. Lucky for us, my wife was carrying our passports, but people dont believe that we had to produce passports. Anyone have an explanation?

My friend told me I should book my carnival cruise through a travel agent. He cruised on another cruise line and said the agent gave him a generous on board credit for booking through him. Has anyone booked Carnival through a TA and gotten onboard credit?
