*** LIVE *** from Oasis of the Seas - May 6, 2018
JaniceB replied to ckrobyn's topic in Royal Caribbean International
I had heard about this, I have never seen the show. Doesn't sound like a real big group at this point. I totally agree, nothing beats a cruise! Not sure what I missed but I think I should be glad I did. -
Just off First Royal Caribbean Cruise
JaniceB replied to PGCRUISERS's topic in Carnival Cruise Lines
My first Royal cruise was the Liberty of the Seas out of Galveston. I really liked the entertainment and thought it was a notch above Carnival. I really missed the comedy club on Carnival. I thought the main pool was much better than the Carnival ships I have been on. The food was about the same but I did miss the option of Blue Iguana and Guys for lunch. Two months later I did the same cruise on the Breeze out of Galveston. I would pick the Breeze over Liberty of the Seas any day. I am trying another cruise on Royal, this time the Oasis of the Seas. So far I am a little overwhelmed with the planning since you have to book entertainment. This is one thing we did not have to do on the Liberty of the Seas. I am hoping all the planing will pay off and we will have a great cruise and I won't miss Carnival. One thing I didn't mention is that the price for both my Royal cruises with the drink package was a little cheaper than my Carnival cruises. The Oasis cruise has the kids sail free promotion (grandkids are going) and my Liberty cruise was with a group and both include an OBC. I really wanted to cruise on the Horizon but the kid promotion won out. -
Sailing the Oasis in November but this past January I sailed the Equinox. I really liked the ship. We found many things to do during the day, the dining was fabulous, even the buffet area, and the shows were also very good. We are sailing with family on the Oasis, sailed with a group of 55-65 year olds on the Equinox. Equinox had very few children on our sailing. I think it all depends on what you want to do on your vacation, how active do you want to be and how pampered you want to be.

We’re on Oasis of the Seas May 20th

Have a great time and report back. -
Yes Sunday a lot of shops closed unless there is a ship in port. We were all surprised when we saw a ship on May 6th. No one was expecting it. Many were also closed when no ship was in port. One evening almost everything was closed except the Green house near the pier. Many hotels are not operational but planes are landing and taking off just not the really large ones that used to come to St. Maarten. They also seem to arrive early between 1130 and 330. The airport departure is a large tent and can only hold so many people. There are a few vendors inside and it is connected to a bathroom facility. The arrival area is a tent and not baggage carousel and our friend said bathroom was a port of potty. I didn't need to use it but I guess she did.

Third cruise, first review - Oasis
JaniceB replied to xkristen83's topic in Royal Caribbean International
Great start to your review. We are going on this cruise with my daughter and her 3, 10 and 11 year olds. I hope her 3 year old likes the camp better than your son did. He does go to daycare everyday but they are divided into age groups but all 3 year olds are together ect. -
Differences between Royal Caribbean and Celebrity
JaniceB replied to kochleffel's topic in Royal Caribbean International
On my 1 cruise on each it was the amount of children or lack of on Celebrity and the more low key pool on Celebrity. We did interact more with the officers on Celebrity because we had different tournaments against them. Pool volleyball and bocce ball were the ones we participated in. It was a lot of fun. -

I'm a little late to the party(land vacation this time) and it took me 2 days to catch up but I loved your live review. I also noticed we will be on the same sailing in November. I am really looking forward to it and your live review just made me wish time could travel a little faster. Congratulations to your daughter and I am a disney fanatic too. I can't even count how many times I have been there. My father took me to Disneyland as a young child and then to Orlando when it first opened. I have taken my children and all my grandchildren on visits as often as possible. I even took the oldest grandchildren on the Disney Fantasy, what an awesome experience. I will be bringing a few of them on the Oasis too. -
Just back from a week in St. Maarten. The dutch side is up and running but still recovering, the french side not so much. We visited Orient beach, there are a few places open but no restroom facilities that I saw. They people there said the French government is not helping and they need tourists to visit. One place was serving food and others had chairs, jet ski rentals and drinks. There are many places open in Philipsburg on the boardwalk and the shops on front street when ships are in port. They also have added vendor kiosks along the boardwalk which I had never seen before.
