Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. Thank you for all the feedback on this. We had wondered if there was a staffing problem on this particular cruise - but it does sound more widespread... Incidentally, on a Saga cruise earlier in the year, the ship was delayed overnight before sailing due to bad weather - the captain was immediately on the public address with explanations (waves upto 60ft!) and apologies - and announced that all passengers were given the premier drinks package 🙂
  2. First time on Celebrity (after 30+ cruises with other lines) and we have just returned from a 9-night France/Spain cruise. We wanted to try Celebrity after friends telling us of their high standards of service, but... I've never been on any other ship where getting a drink involved vainly looking for a waiter and eventually queueing at the bar to get served! On the first evening we thought that there may have been issues if a lot of new crew members were on board, but this lasted throughout the cruise. To be fair, the situation usually improved by late evening - maybe wait staff were moved to the bars/lounges after the restaurants closed. The cruise overall was fine (the theatre shows were excellent, boarding was very fast, MDR food was pretty bland) but I wonder if anyone could comment as to whether this 'get your own drinks' routine was normal for Celebrity.
  3. I would go along with the above points. We took the 11-night UK-Canaries cruise and the daytime entertainment was pretty woeful with several show cancellations. Many out-of-stock items in the bars/restaurants. And the wifi... well, two tins and a bit of string would be faster... After 30+ cruises with a wide range of lines I think I'll be staying with the traditional style - this was bit bit too much like a cheap booze cruise, but it wasn't cheap.
  4. Thank you. Currently just feeling like mild flu. (But you know how much more men suffer... 😁)
  5. Ooo... SHOUTING... Always good. One of the previous posters made the very good point that you are statistically safer on a cruise ship than in a theatre, restaurant, etc. ashore - but there is a difference in that that normally you are with a group of strangers for a relatively short period whereas on ship you are all together for an extended time. Anyway, I do feel that the cruise lines have a responsibility for health on board and I have seen that demonstrated on all my previous cruises this year - just not so much on Virgin unfortunately. As far as my health being entirely MY responsibility, I'm afraid that is unrealistic in a shared environment. It would be entertaining to see me in the bar wearing a hazmat suit and life jacket but it would hardly be practical. (Joke...)
  6. I know this was just bad luck and hopefully there were minimal cases on board. This was the fourth cruise we have taken since lockdown restrictions ended and on-board precautions have varied from comprehensive (Viking) to essentially none (VV). Yes, this cruise must have complied with current UK regulations though it was a bit of a shock to see that all the measures we accepted until now had suddenly gone away...
  7. Just saying guys, just saying... Your milage may vary.
  8. Returned yesterday from the 11 night cruise, UK - Canaries - UK. I won't go into the operational issues here because I think they have been covered elsewhere. I was surprised at the lack of COVID precautions by Virgin. There was one self-administered lateral flow test at home in advance of the cruise and... that was it. No testing before boarding, no masks, no distancing, no testing on board, nothing. Unfortunately I woke up this morning coughing and feeling rough and a COVID test was positive. Oh great. The only times I was not on board were on a tour bus or in the open air, so my finger is pointing at the management of the ship.
