  1. Yeah, I booked a Tamerind reservation a week before the cruise in August. It showed up on my credit card. On the ship they had no information of the reservation. So, since the internet was so bad on board, I waited until I got home to resolve. Looking carefully at my HAL statement, I found that they had credited me with $68 something, so I guess we are straight. On the other hand the laundry bag $49 I booked in advance at the same time went through and was on the bed when we boarded. So it's still kind of a mystery how it all works.
  2. It showed up on my phone's wifi list and I was able to use it for a few minutes. Logged on an app I had never been able to reach on the NA. Millennium network wasn't locked. Did what I needed to do and walked on.
  3. HAL excuse for poor internet (it's alaska) is suspect. When we docked in Juneau about ten days ago, I walked on the dock and when I went by the Millenium (Celebrity) ship I could pick up their signal which worked way better than the HAL I paid for!
  4. Come visit our Las Vegas. We have many 8/5 Bonus machines, including five at Silverton Resort. You can find lists at vpfree2.com
  5. The Jacks or Better Bonus payout did pay 2 for 2 pair. Unfortunately, no 8/5 or 7/5. You do have to play five coins for the Royal Flush jackpot. That is for $1000 playing quarters, or $400 playing dimes.
  6. Just back from a casino offer cruise to alaska. I took printouts of the offer. But happily, no one looked at it. The casino manager had everone's freeplay listed on his computer. The casino cashier had the same info. I was surprised when she told me my wife had freeplay too.
  7. All new machines in the casino. The entire ship looks brand new. We sailed (Jim and Grace) on a casino offer. I think on our last HAL cruise we earned about 700 points each on a one week cruise. This rewarded us 200-250 each in free play on this cruise, and cabin offers at random times ever since. If you gambled on a HAL trip in the past, do check with the casino cashier next cruise. You never know if there will be freepay in your account. So the best VP I found was Jacks or Better Bonus poker, which pays back 96.87% assuming five coins and perfect play. The schedule is the same for dimes, quarters, or dollars. Games on the twelve VP machines include Spin Poker, Supertimes, etc. Two changes: Drinks are free, good drinks, for those gambling, only while gambling. Ask a manager and he or she will put a sticker on your room card, which doubles as your casino card. Also, you can load money into the machine from your room account! No way this could be a problem? You can also use cash. If you happen to make a profit the cashier will pay you in cash on the last day. We played a lot and didn't get trimmed too badly. Now we're home and will see if we get any generous offers for next year.
  8. We are just off the American Song yesterday. I am working on a long trip review, but it was a good trip. To Whoopie's point, a rumor had it ten servers quit en masse a couple of weeks ago, but the boat seemed fully staffed last week.
  9. Thanks for the mini-review, Whoopie. Tex, looks like we will be on your cruise. We had our molecular Covid tests today and are awaiting results. First time river cruisers, long time ocean cruisers. We will go with the flow, masks or no. We booked the cruise planning to escape our Las Vegas heat, but at least the drinks will be cold. Jim and Grace
  10. My letter, same cruise but in July, reads ALL passengers regardless of vaccination status must have the molecular covid test three days prior to traveling.
  11. This is my experience with getting the insurance refund. 508 posts February 6, 2005 #1 Originally Posted May 23 In January, I purchased a medical insurance travel policy for our planned cruise trip from Amsterdam, leaving July 18, 2021. 13. Do take your paperwork with you. The ship may have no record of what you are due at the casino. Show your email etc to the casino cashier.
  14. hree Carnival Brands Plan to Resume Alaska Sailings in July -- Update BY Dow Jones & Company, Inc. — 5:49 PM ET 05/20/2021 Carnival Corp. ( CCL ) said it is planning to resume Alaska sailings in July, in what would be among the first sailings out of the U.S. since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic. The company said Thursday that its Princess Cruises, Holland America Line and Carnival Cruise Line plan to return to service with Alaska itineraries from the U.S. this summer. The cruises would depart from Seattle. The company said each brand is planning to have one ship sailing round-trip this season. The cruises are available to guests who have had their final dose of an approved Covid-19 vaccine at least 14 days before the cruise begins and proof of vaccination. "Crew vaccinations will be in accordance with CDC guidelines," Carnival said. The announcement comes after the U.S. House of Representatives Thursday passed a bill that would let cruise ships sail directly from Washington state to Alaska, temporarily waiving a part of maritime law prohibiting foreign-flagged vessels from transporting passengers between two U.S. ports. Foreign-flagged vessels, such as cruise ships, had been required to stop at a foreign port -- Canada, in this case -- under U.S. law. Canada currently bans cruise ships from sailing on its waters until the end of February 2022. Ultimately, cruise ships' ability to sail depends on obtaining the green light from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Last month, the CDC said cruise operators could restart sailings out of the U.S. by mid-July. The CDC also said at the time that cruise ships can proceed to passenger sailings, without test cruises, if they attest that 98% of crew members and 95% of passengers are fully vaccinated. In October 2020, the CDC put in place a conditional-sail order that required cruise operators to conduct test cruises and apply for a certificate at least 60 days before offering passenger cruises. Last month, the CDC said it would now review and respond to applications for simulated voyages within five days. The cruise industry and its stakeholders had been critical of the CDC's approach to cruises, particularly after the agency lifted broader travel restrictions. The industry accused the CDC of treating it differently than other hospitality sectors, and the state of Florida has sued the agency. On Thursday, a Carnival spokesman said the company is optimistic that it will be able to conclude its continuing discussions with the CDC. Princess Cruises will resume operations in Alaska starting July 25 with seven-day cruises onboard Majestic Princess, the company said. Holland America Line will resume cruises to Alaska beginning July 24, with seven-day itineraries aboard Nieuw Amsterdam. Carnival Cruise Line has already offered Alaska sailings from Seattle starting July 27, with weekly departures through Sept. 14 aboard Carnival Miracle, the company said.
