They always hold back space for booking onboard so you can wait & book once you board. I've never encountered a problem waiting.

We always book one to two years in advance. We have never had a cruise go down below what we've paid. We still have almost six months to go for the next one and it is sold out. The cruise still 18 months out has more than doubled in price.
If someone were to ask if there are ever any deals the answer of course is yes. But if the question is whether you can count on it, then no. The cruise lines have the math sorted out so that with upsells and upgrades, they mostly sail full.
I booked June 20 on the Getaway at t-minus five days to sail. I'm pretty sure I paid rack rate / higher than day-one rate. No 'deals' site showed anything special even though ********** browsing implied cabins of most categories were available. (Many cabins in my specific category were selectable when I booked, so we must have sailed with empties?)This has been our experience as well. No bargains to speak of.

Yes, RCL has poor/bad customer service reps but please tell me you weren't speaking with their special needs staff. I don't know their phone info but I'm sure someone here will provide it. I have no personal experience but many other on this board have given them high marks. You may be speaking to the wrong peoplle.

I'm confused. How are you being nickel & dimed to death before you even cruised? You may want to adjust your attitude before you board. If you board expecting to be unhappy, you probably will be!
You don't say how old your son is, or what ship but chances are he'll enjoy RCL. They have a lot to offer kids of all ages.

Yes, although not all of them were by the pool. Some older passengers wanted loungers in covered areas on Promenade deck so they could sit and read in the shade.
Thanks for the info. I always wondered since there doesn't appear to be enough for everyone now although there could be.

When we sailed on the Oceanic in 1981 we did not have to pay for the lounge chair by the pool, but we did have to see the deck steward on boarding to reserve our chairs for the week. Then, we had the same chairs throughout the cruise. It was nice knowing you didn't have to battle chair hogs.
Were there enough for all the passengers?

Sorry OP. It looks like most here have no compassion & are more interested in laying blame at your feet than acknowledging RCL's lack of service. I hope you are able to resolve things with the airlines & RCL to your satisfaction.

I sure wish the cheerleaders would cut the crap. The OP didn't do anything wrong!! RCL fell flat on their face with this. They failed to provide even adequate service here & should have done a lot more for their customer!

Dude, get off your soapbox, as that post is ridiculous. You are complaining about getting Freedom and Oasis, two of the largest and most innovative ships in the industry. Okay....
Thanks for deciphering for me. I couldn't figure out what the "problem" was!

When you enter an enclosed space, men are supposed to remove their hats!!! Standard manners!
Jump to conclusions much?
And my husband always does..................Perhaps a scarf would make you more comfortable?

They always leave times open for booking onboard. I'd make that your first stop rather than taking the time & potential aggravation trying to get a refund.
