  1. The Radiance and Visions classes are our preferred classes. Dislike the mega ships and tired of the promenade on Voyager and Freedom class. When on a ship, we want to see the Sea! We do not need to be entertained; we have all we want in our home city. There are classes of ships to meet most everyone's wants.
  2. Uber has registered with the Port of Galveston and is permitted to pick up and drop off passengers.
  3. Galveston is a working port, not just a cruise port. We are the 4th busiest cruise port in the U.S. and close to number 3. Ports are meant for trade not just cruising. We definitely compete in both, Not only do large trucks (18 wheelers), buses and cars also share the road on Harborside which does not have a sidewalk along most of the route. Would one walk along a highway? There also is the major hospital complex in the same area. None of this is conducive to walking. Also hot and humid 10 months out of the year here,
  4. You don't need an excursion to visit the aviary should it be open. It's in the center of the port area and one can pay at the aviary. It is really enjoyable. Hope it will be open for you
  5. 1:30 is fine. It's about 1-1/2 hours to IAH (70 miles),
  6. Both; party and kids,
  7. There is curb side luggage check in at United,
  8. See visitgalveston.com for more information
  9. Options are Uber or other transportation network companies, taxi, Saltwater Moms on FB, not sure if Galveston Limousine service will pick up at hotel but worth a call. You could always go back to the airport after booking ship transfer from airport to port on departure day, It's at least 50 miles so compare pricing and what works best for you,
  10. If not a closed loop cruise and/or a port requires a passport, the card cannot be used. Have seen too many refused boarding because they thought the card was the same as a passport; it is not. Its use is for is actually for border crossings (Canada/Mexico) by foot or driving,
  11. Off the ship by 9 you will have no issues. We leave home at 9:15, at IAH by 10:30 on weekdays. Live a few blocks from port.
  12. 6:30 at night will be no issue. Fog is a rarity, but even at that, burns off in mornings once the sun is up. Other delays? Anything can happen at any time anywhere. i see no need to worry unnecessarily.
  13. Waiting until 1pm we have never waited in line, cabins are open and lunch area has cleared.
  14. This is the one of the reasons we never arrive before 1 PM
  15. There always seems to be an issue with submitting for OBC. Sent as usual, as usual receive email stating denial as my name not on statement!! Always takes twice to process same stock attachment.
  16. The Tremont is at 24th and Mechanic. 24th is open for valet parking/taxis between Market and Mechanic.
  17. Sunday mornings are quiet. Self-disembark and have transportation arranged.
  18. As a member of the "older crowd", every entity but one is automatically charged to our credit card (air miles), paid in full once a month through my phone App when cruising. The one exception is set up through our online banking multiple months ahead,
  19. The 29th is a weekday - would not even consider a flight before 1 pm. It could take 1-1/2 hours just to get to Houston; the airport is on the north side. Between road construction and traffic, wouldn't take the chance,
  20. The luggagw storage is at a 24th and Strand. Lots to see and do downtown on the Strand and Post Office streets, shops, restaurants, Tall Ship Elissa and museum, Ocean Star Drilling Rig Museum
  21. Our travel insurance, Allianz, covered damaged luggage. Had check that covered replacement costs in a few days,
  22. The filming is a one time schedulel 8/11-8/17. Specific areas will be closed off to traffic over the week, but should have no impact on cruise traffic. Zero traffic impacting cruises; have been downtown and on harborside.
  23. Notices have been posted for almost one month on FB and City website, The filming is scheduled 8/12-8/17. Specific areas will be closed off to traffic over the week, but should have no impact on cruise traffic. Schedule below: https://www.galvestontx.gov/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=1846
