  1. Was on Magic August 30 and yes, the pool was open.  And yes, the buffet was open, same as always. You do have to wear your mask unless you are eating, and you do serve yourself.

Don’t know when you’re planning to book, but it sure was nice to not have long lines for anything. Reduced capacity is nice!

  2. Yes they do. You’ll have to let them know during check in that you need assistance. We’ve had them take you all the way to your cabin and have taken you just to the ship. We’ve also had to wait a long time for one to take DH and have gotten one right away, so basically it’s a crap shoot. Once at Tampa the wait was over an hour, said they only had 2 chairs available! Our friends were waiting on us, so we just gave up and he very slowly and carefully made his way on board. After that, we made the decision to buy him a mobility scooter. Never have regretted that decision.

These comments only apply to Port Canaveral and Tampa.

it can also be tricky getting assistance getting off the ship. Once they told us they didn’t have any or anyone to take him off, but there were several behind the girl so we just asked one and off we went!

  3. I was just reading about the gratuities for steakhouse on the thread called Steakhouse. Some said the gratuity was removed when the price increased.  That is NOT true, the $38 includes gratuity. There’s a link on that thread to the Need To Know about the steakhouse that tells you gratuities included. I was just on the phone with my pvp and asked her about it, and she read me the exact same thing.  GRATUITY IS INCLUDED IN STEAKHOUSE.  Of course you can give additional if you wish.

  4. You get off as soon as the port people clear the ship to get off. In normal times, it’s usually an hour or so. But these are not normal times! On Magic in August, we’re supposed to get off at amber cove around 10:45, but turned out there was a crew member who tested positive, so after much back and forth between the parties involved, we’re finally cleared to get off at 2:30. If you still wanted to get off you were subject to random testing. Also all the excursions were cancelled and you were only allowed to stay in the shopping area and the swimming pool there. Of course all excursion costs were refunded. This is the main reason you should only book Carnival sponsored excursions. Also we were originally supposed to leave at 6 but they extended that till 7.

  5. The non smoking casino on Magic last month was always busy, there was a bar but mostly for the drink servers who were very good. Only problem with it to me is the smaller size doesn’t have as many of the fun slots. We would just go to the big casino in the mornings when it was open on sea days before it got too crowded. Will be interesting to see how it is when we go again in 2 weeks!

I was on the Breeze last month and people were smoking at the casino bar, even when the casino was closed.

Anxious to see how it’s going to be on Magic October 7 with the new rule in place. In August on Magic, it was horrible walking thru the casino before departure! As we say here in the south, it could choke a mule!

  7. The simplest and safest thing to do is just load a few dollars, say $50 or so and play with that. If you need more, add more.  If you’re going to spend your OBC on other things, then don’t do it at all. The other option is to just “charge to your room” and the OBC is used first.  Same thing with your gift cards, just go to guest services and have them load to your S and S account as needed.

  8. I can tell you the $25 fun play the casino gives to Platinum and Diamonds is separated out from YOUR bank. On the display screen, It shows how much you have in fun play and your money. It takes the fun play money first.  Didn’t have any OBC this last trip so can’t speak for that.  This was in August on Magic.

  9. If I were you, I would try to find someplace in your area to get a rapid test on Thursday before you leave, or get a home test. Since you leave on Saturday and are flying on Friday, that leaves Thursday to get tested. If you feel confident you can find a place to get a rapid test in Miami on Friday afternoon then do that. Hopefully someone here can help you out as to where they got their tests done in Miami. Good luck! To me, this has become the most stressful part of cruising these days!

I printed out our luggage tags a long time ago. There were no priority listed at that time. Is it listed now?

Can't find where to go to print again if possible.

Since you printed your documents a while ago, you should reprint them. The new ones should say Priority, ours did on August 30 Magic. You will have to go into your Cruise Manager, select Open Planner, to reprint your documents.

Also to Wikoffclan, on our cruise the laundry bags were in the drawer as always. The Pixels people said they were out of pins and to write to guest care to get them.  Everything else was as you stated. Got our Chocolate Delite by calling Room Service.

Never thought about or seen someone smoking in a casino when closed

You must not have ever gone thru the casino on embarkation day. Any ship we’ve ever been on (33 cruises) if we’ve gone thru to check out the casino, people were always sitting around the bar and machines smoking. On the August 30 cruise on Magic, we had to go through casino and the smoke was the worst ever! Maybe the ventilation wasn’t on yet, but it was horrible. The rest of the cruise, people would be in there smoking when it was closed. A few mornings when we went to play early, smokers were playing on the non smoking side too but no one said anything.  Loved the non smoking casino! Only thing wrong was the best slots were in the smoking casino.  We will be back on Magic October 7 so we shall see how the new smoking rules are enforced.

  12. I just don’t understand why everyone has to be first on the ship! If you choose the 10-10:30 time slot, you’re going to be sitting around twiddling your thumbs waiting for the ship to clear all the previous passengers, some of whom aren’t in any rush to get off. As I said earlier in this thread, we arrived at our check in time of 12 and were on the ship, done with muster and checked out the casinos and were back in our cabins by around 12:40. This was no worse than the usual Platinum/Diamond boarding we usually do. Guess I just don’t get it, but to each his own.

Just happy to be cruising again!

  13. That’s the way Carnival operates. They give all the great deals to those who seldom cruise. Us poor Platinum and Diamonds don’t get those great offers. My super Hot Streak offer gave me reduced fare and $25 obc on our February 4 day with our Grandson and his wife. My fare was $930 and he got $700 obc, plus a balcony room and drinks on us for both for just under $600!

Great to know Port Canaveral was that quick. Leaving from there Oct 7 & so looking forward to it!! Happy cruising all.🚢 🏖️

Maybe we will see you on board! We are also leaving on Magic October 7th! When we get to choose our checkin time, we will choose 12-12:30 again. Hope you enjoy your cruise! I see you’re from Virginia, our son and his friend will be going with us, he lives in North Carolina.

Ports are always a question mark. Unfortunately they played games for the entire day instead of just bypassing it. What is the point of getting off at 2PM and back on by like what 4PM?

I was on that cruise. Once final approval was given to get off the ship, the time was extended from 6:00 departure to 7:00 pm. If I had an excursion planned, I would have been ticked off!  In my opinion, they should have just said ok, see ya next time and left for a nice sea day. Probably weren’t allowed to do that tho. Still was a nice cruise and happy to be back!

  16. Last Monday at Port Canaveral, our check in time was 12-12:30. We arrived  around 11:50. Time we unloaded and got the car parked, went thru the boarding paperwork check, security check, and final check, we were on board the ship and dropping off our carryon, met our room steward, and did our very quick and easy muster check in, we were back in the cabin by 12:30! I’d say that’s pretty fast!

I limit myself to $100 a night.  I have been getting all kinds of offers daily with everything from free room, free WiFi, free DOU in the casino, Free DOU everywhere on the ship, Cruise cash, Reduced rates, etc.

I think at this point, if you are in their system as a gambler, and haven't got a cruise booked, they'll offer you anything to get you to book.

Consider yourself lucky to get any kind of free room offer! I pretty much gamble what you do. In 33 cruises I’ve never been offered a free room! I do get casino offers for money off, low deposits, a little OBC and sometimes free drinks on us (especially now that we hardly drink, lol) sometimes just me sometimes me and companion.  I think once carnival knows you’re going to keep booking, they don’t offer much, but if you seldom cruise, an example is my grandson and wife have cruised 3 times, his last offer was $700 obc, free drinks on us for both and casino rate. He paid just over $600 for a balcony room on Deck 7, I paid $940 for the room next door!  You just never know, it’s a crap shoot!

Have you arrived at PC earlier than that in the past? I’m not close enough to my booking to check in, but I’m assuming I will have an early check in time (OS cabin). Shuttle we have booked from MCO leaves there at 10, so if we are not delayed en route, should be there before 11. (Considering canceling that shuttle and booking private car earlier).

Yes, I’ve always chosen 11:30 to 12, but it didn’t matter because we had priority boarding. We hardly ever had to wait to board. This time,I was afraid we were going to take a while to check in, but it went really fast.

  19. We drive to the port (Canaveral). We left home at 8:00 am, drove an hour to the Cracker Barrel at Daytona (every adventure has begun at Cracker Barrel for many years). Left there around 10:20, stopped at the rest area close to 528, arrived at the port right at 12:00 which was our boarding time. Waited on our friend to park the car then headed inside. Wasn’t very crowded. The agents went over all our paperwork, went to the main checking area (note, there is no Diamond/Platinum area at this time). Got checked in pretty quickly, met up with our friends and went right on board. We went to drop off our carryons and I looked at the time, it was 12:30!  Went up to our muster station and checked in. That was a breeze! Everything is pretty much the same except no paper stuff all thru the trip, everything was on the app which I must say, worked very well! The chat feature worked 200% better than in the past!  Really had a nice time, and happy to be back on a ship again!
