We enjoy staying in Brooklyn at the Marriott.   It is an easy walk to wonderful restaurants with a view of the Manhattan skyline.   There are also several fantastic pizza restaurants, some of the best in NYC.   If you are into walking the park under the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges is a great picturesque stroll.   If you are up to it a walk across the Brooklyn Bridge is an experience you won’t forget.    We walk to a Bagel shop, for fresh baked bagels for breakfast the day of departure.   As others have said it is a short ride to Red Hook for the QM2.   Pretty sure LaGuardia doesn’t offer anything as special as this area of Brooklyn.

Thanks very much.  Based on the responses I've received, I think this is where we will end up. Appreciate the info!

The pre-voyage Cunard coach transfer from LaGuardia to the port is priced at $50 (US) per person for 2022 crossings during the booking process on the Cunard US website. When I pretend I'm in Canada, I'm finding the Cunard website for Canada is currently quoting that transfer at $60.51 (CAD) per person.

Thank you so much for that info! 🙂

Although we booked it directly,  not through Cunard, we have stayed twice at the LaGuardia Marriott. It is very close to the airport and the hotel sent a shuttle for us.

Each time the hotel staff arranged a car service to take us to Brooklyn in the morning.

We could have returned to the airport in the morning to take the Cunard coach transfer. The cost would have been about Can.$90, that is $45 for each of us.  The car service was about US$50 plus tip. I expect the cost of both of these modes of transport have increased since then as it has been a few years.

Thank you!  This is what we are considering doing.  Pricing for transfers are not yet available on my planner, so I have no idea what they are.  But they are still likely much higher than simply getting a car service.

I think the statement "hotels in Brooklyn are not recommended" is a little broad.  We're planning to stay at the Brooklyn Marriott prior to an upcoming voyage.  I can't speak from actual experience, but I have no qualms whatsoever.  Brooklyn has changed a lot over the last 20 years.

Certainly no insult intended.  I have never stayed i Brooklyn either, so no comment from us re actual experience.  But from reading these boards, that is often the response.  I will absolutely take a look at the Marriott.  Does it offer a shuttle to the ship?

  5. Thanks to you both.  It helps in planning to know that.  Air Canada flies into LGA.  I know hotels in Brooklyn are not recommended, so figured we would stay out near the airport then head in the following morning.  Not worthwhile going all the way into Manhattan.

On a similar note, does Cunard do airport transfers from LGA?  If we were to stay at an airport hotel, we could head back to arrivals and meet up with the Cunard transfer.  We have done this in the past on other lines.  Having never sailed Cunard, I am not familiar with their policies.

  6. Just starting to outline our plans for our first Cunard crossing in 2022. We plan on flying in one day early into LaGuardia.  No plans to go into Manhattan.  Can someone please advise which hotels Cunard has used in the past in the LGA area.  Many thanks!

We just booked a cruise on the Crown Princess and we have cabin C751.  !1st time in an aft suite how is this cabin??

What a coincidence - we just booked this cabin too for the first time! 🙂

  8. We had 2 FCC's that were put back into our account when we cancelled this year's Baltic/TA on the Sky.  Both were due to expire within the coming months, and from reading these boards, I was not confident the $100 would be returned to us if we did not use them.  So we have booked 50 nights to South America on the Discovery in January 2022.  Its far enough out (hopefully) that we will get a clear picture of what the "new normal" will be in terms of cruising.

We had the option of booking this as one cruise for a cheaper price and perks.  But Princess will not allow the use of FCC's on a 50 night cruise, so we would have had to pay the full deposit.  I was not willing to invest any actual money into Princess, or any cruise line, at the moment.  So we have elected to book it as two cruises, which is more expensive, but doesn't require us to invest any more money that we could potentially lose.

I am not hopeful that this cruise will happen.  I am doubtful that the Discovery will even be built.  And unless there is a proven vaccine available, and widely distributed, we will not be going either way.

We miss cruising VERY much.  But simply not willing to blindly resume without safeguards in place.  Sad times.

If I had to come in contact with someone with Covid19 I would prefer it to be on a cruise ship rather than finding out a week later that someone on a plane, train or bus that I had been on had gone down with it!!

    Really???  Why???

I would MUCH rather be home, or on land, where availability to hospitals/treatment is readily available.  And where I will be in charge of my OWN situation, not held prisoner for days on end on a ship because someone ELSE is ill.

  10. Forgive me if this has been asked (and answered), but I just wonder why we are not hearing about any issues of passengers with fevers and coughs on any other cruise line.  Clearly this is not a Princess issue.  How is this being handled on the other lines?  I admit I don't read every post made on CC for all lines, but I am curious that there is nothing on the news about infected people tracing back to cruise ships other than the two "big" news stories (Diamond and Grand).

A friend currently sailing on Azamara reported that they had to miss a port (Madagascar) as it was closed to ALL cruise ships.

The Take 5 space is the same as Club 6 on the other Royal Class ships.

IMO the space was an after thought. Oh we only have this space left on the ship lets put a lounge in there.

It is long, narrow and unappealing. I avoid it now after trying to like it many times on the Regal and Royal.

We don't care for Club 6 either, and after a couple of initial visits, we never went back.  I was hopeful that Take 5 was different/improved (like they seem to have improved Princess Live).

  12. We have never experienced on line check in before.  I have completed the on line check in, complete with photo and credit card info.  I have the app on my phone.  I have both electronic and hard copies of our boarding passes.  So my question is - what happens when we arrive at the port?  Do we still have to line up at the counters, or do we just head straight to the ship?

    Many thanks in advance 🙂

since I don't know the particulars of your situation and your 'relationship' with your TA ... i'll just post my latest experiences

prior to final payment ... switched from a no promotion , refundable deposit to a Getaway promotion, with a NON-refundable deposit with a substantial  at least for me, reduction in the fare since the 2nd passenger was 50% off

since final payment was made, we have refared twice, under the same Getaway promotion, and both times the price drop has already been returned to our form of payment

this was direct with Princess, no TA involved ...

Princess honoured the lower fare AFTER final payment was made?  That's incredible.  I always thought we could only refare up until time of final payment.  I've honestly never bothered to track the fare after that (in fear of seeing the price drop significantly and not being able to take advantage of it!!!)

  14. So glad I saw this thread, as we will be on Equinox in 2 weeks and in a Concierge cabin for the first time.

I know what is listed as "perks" on Celebrity, but have also read on here that some of these perks are actually no longer available.  So if there are any "must haves" in a Concierge cabin, please let me know.

Our boarding time on our boarding pass is 12:30 - 1.  But if I read correctly, the main dining room is open until 1 pm for lunch for Concierge.  Will we be allowed to board earlier?

Nobody has mentioned one of the most useful features and that is the perpetual access to your shipboard account and live charges. It seems like we always get inadvertently charged for something and its nice to be able to view this from your phone instead of only in the stateroom on the tv.

You're right!  That is definitely one of the best features! 🙂

  16. So far, the app is a great tool for info.  We are in the Equinox in a couple of weeks, and look forward to trying this out.  As many of you have indicated, we do NOT need to purchase an internet package in order to use the app. But when I am on a ship, I always switch my phone to "airplane mode" in order to ensure my data package is turned off. Will the app still work in this mode?
