  1. We've done a few segments of World Cruises and can count on one hand the number of people who've been dismissive of us as "segmenters" (horrible word...I won't use it again). One woman lambasted us for making the ship like a "country bus" and stated to our faces that she was not going to waste time getting to know us because it wasn't worth it. She was by far the exception to the rule, thank goodness. I'd like to think that it was her loss ;p

We've realised we prefer "journey" cruises and since most of them are part of a longer voyage, then that's how it is. I think that makes for far more interesting itineraries and different ports of call from the norm. I think the atmosphere on such cruises is way more relaxed - people don't feel they have to cram in two visits to every restaurant/go to the show every night/do everything on offer as they do if they have only a limited time frame. We like that easy going approach very much indeed and offer that as another reason why you shouldn't think twice, rcandkc. Go for it!

    Gilly, what is journey cruises?

  2. bebe08 - the currency on Celebrity cruise ships, regardless where in the world they sail, is ALWAYS the U.S. Dollar. The on-ship ATMs will dispense USD. If you need/want Euros, you can get that at Guest Services. However, most well-traveled cruisers will never use the ship ATM or exchange funds on the ship unless absolutely necessary. If your travel plans allow for it (i.e., you arrive at your embarkation port in advance of the day of embarkation), you should take advantage of withdrawing cash (Euros) from a brick/mortar bank ATM in Barcelona before getting on the ship. If you are looking to use US Dollars to tip on board the ship, I would take what you think you need with you prior to departing from home.

I'm sure other cruisers will have their own tips and suggestions. Enjoy your cruise.

Why would not you use ATM on board if your card is in USD?

  3. We are on the Millennium Feb 16 from HKG. Board on the 16th but depart on the 17th. Will the safety drill be on the 16th or 17th? trying to figure out tours in HKG but don't know when we have to be onboard for the drill. Will obviously check in and drop off luggage but would like to spend the afternoon and evening touring. Celebrity could not answer this question when I called. Thank you!

We did the Millie out of HK this January. Master drill was on the second night.

  4. I would not recommend missing the Halong Bay, although , to be fair, you will see the Bay when you depart, if your departure time is during the day (ours was 13 hours or so). However you do not see the cave, the Titov island and Bay up and close. To us this was the main attraction of this cruise.

Hanoi is worth a visit of course, however it is a long way. We used an overnight option In Bangkok and loved it (private, not Celebrityj) so fo ports which are so far away a multiple day is a good alternative.

  5. Great picture Z! My point earlier is that Regent has never had most of what we are discussing. Still, for newbies to luxury cruising, this may be informational but not so much for luxury cruisers.

But it’s a good reminder to the veterans of this line why you stick with it! [emoji23]

  6. Hi Claudia,

My husband and I have been cruising with Regent since 2001. Have been on all the ships. We did a Baltic cruise on the Voyager in

August 2003 and loved it. I'm now 68 and my husband is now 71. We have never been the youngest passengers on any our our

cruises and really don't care what age group is onboard. We always meet people no matter their age. We book a cruise based on the

itinerary...not the ship. We did a second New England cruise October 2017 on the Navigator and had a great time. This ship doesn't appeal to most people for a variety of reasons. I would suggest a Baltic cruise if you have not been to that region. We are booked for a Baltic cruise in August 2019 on the Explorer. From Stockholm to Southhampton. As far as the weather in the Baltics... who cares. Just pack what you

need and have a great time. The Explorer is a beautiful ship and the itinerary is great

Why do you think Navigator does not appeal to most people?

  7. Despite the awkward wording on the website, the price is not per day, nor is it per person.

The in room bar set up gets you one bottle is liquor plus a six pack of mixer plus a package of salty snacks.

Thanks for the explanation, this makes far more sense now!

I was just about to reply and realised you were not asking about a bar set up but wanted a bottle of spirits, right?[emoji4] my question is - can you do it as a one off - since the price is on a per day basis and do you have to do it for two people if you gave two in the cabin?

  9. If you look at the deck plan, you’ll see little notched areas in each cabin. The bed is in the notch that juts into the adjacent cabin.

Think ours by the bathroom. Does not really matter- I am still excited! Just hope there are some drapes/black out though ;)

  10. Iamthesea, I agree with you. The IV stateroom appeared much more spacious on the video that featured the two guys, but that video was one of the earliest mockups. We too have a bed near the balcony, which isn’t my preference on M or S class, but perhaps I’ll feel differently on Edge. Regardless, we’re looking forward to our sailing on Edge:cool::cool:

How do you know your cabin has a bed by the balcony?

  11. I know, me too! I looked back and the steel cutting happened for the Edge about 4 months before the reservations opened up. Someone mentioned that the plan was not to say much about the Beyond, AKA Apex, until the Edge sails. I am hoping they will have bookings open on my first Edge cruise in December and hopefully some discounts/extra perks for booking onboard. :D

If the trend repeats in the same way as with the Edge one really need to be in super fast!

  12. I agree that this would be a serious design fail! I’m usually out on the veranda long before DH wakes. I slip behind the drapes to the veranda to avoid awakening him, which would be impossible with the design you describe. UPDATE: DH says he’s not bothered, so I guess we’ll chill and wait for the initial reviews in December....

Tell your DH - that’s the spirit of a true adventurer! [emoji23][emoji4]

  13. I am sorry to interfere here - I was under the impression that a person complaining recently was in a group of passengers who did not have the work of earlier access and to bookings, and as such they thought that the excursions were booked up/out.

I also have to say that I was very, very impressed with Jason’s input here on CC!
