  1. I might just decide to do this on our November cruise. Everyone raves how great it is over there and I know I want to experience it. :)

Good idea. We've sailed over there on private excursions, and it's beautiful. Think we'll go to Cinnamon Bay this time. Since we have to dock at Crown Bay, I just feel better going thru the ship which we rarely do. Anxious to see pics from your trip.

  2. Not sure if this was mentioned, as you said you didn't want to go over to St John on your own. Just do the ships excursion, basically same price. It's right from the ship as well. Beautiful beaches!!!! I don't want to hassle taking the taxi over, then waiting for the ferry...then coming back at the right time, and taking another taxi back to the ship. Much easier. This is what we decided to do this time....or I should say I decided to do :D

  3. Considering the wicked hot weather there, is it walking distance to the zoo, or do we need a taxi?

(Or, stop at Frog's on the way, then go to the zoo? Ooops, that won't work. We'll never leave Frog's.)

    Thanks!

We took the local bus...think was #10. We walked to the right and up a few blocks. Didn't grab a map that they hand out and just winged it. Locals knew where it was. Don't expect fancy at all. Was an experience tho! : ) Once they drop you off, you just walk up a little hill a block and to the right another block. Very close to where they dropped us off. Then we just walked back to where he dropped us off at and waited til the bus returned. Very easy to do. Then they drop you off back at the original pick up in town was. Think then you can just walk to the local beach from there. Escapes my mind the name right now. It was a fun day for us. Maybe do a Segway tour?

Also, I bus was very cheap to ride. Bring change. Want to say...1.25pp? 1.75?

  4. We've done Atlantis via the hotel next door. The price has gone up since we went!!!! Last yr we went to the zoo and really enjoyed that. You can hit the beach that's close to port as well since you'll have time. I always try and find something fun to do even though it's not our favorite stop. Enjoy!

This time we're heading over to Blue Lagoon since we're only there til 2 :(

  5. That I'm not sure about. On our tour we went to South Friars Beach. If you send them an email I am sure they will let you know or you can give them your preference. They were very quick to respond to email when I was planning our trip last year.

Thanks I'll do that. Yes, they are quick to respond, unlike the others. Nothing from them. Guess they don't want my biz.

Did you see monkeys at the beach area or ?

  6. Interesting. he is not responding to emails just now at all, me and colleague been trying for over a week. Maybe he is on leave but you would think he would set up and out of office. Does not fill me with confidence, everyone else on all the other islands have been so prompt with responses

I've sent emails to 3 vendors and Thenford was the only one that responded the same day. Never did hear back from Javin or Royston. Guess I have to go with who wants the business. At least tell me your booked if you are.

  7. Just went on this tour in December and had a great time. We did go to the beach at the end for about an hour, but the time depends on how long the other attractions take and also traffic. We were pretty tired by the end of the tour after climbing up to the top of Brimstone Hill fortress (beautiful!) and also the beach time. The tour picks up and drops off right at the port. There is a ton of shopping available right at the port area as well as many restaurants, bars, and cafes right within the gated area. If shopping isn't your thing, I suppose you could opt to stay at the beach longer and take a taxi back to the port (15 minutes). We had a great time on the tour!

How do they decided which beach to take you to? I read it Cockleshell or Friars Beach.

  8. I'm torn whether to book the excursion to St John now or wait til I board using my obc, which is what I want to use it for. I rarely ever book the ships excursion, so not sure if this is the norm to sell out prior to boarding. I just called and she didn't confirm that they hold back 25% which is what I read. She said they're private tours that do the bookings and they get the list 3 days prior to sailing. No idea if this is true. I would think since I'm booking online to Royal, it's Royal. But I do know they use the private companies. Anyone have any advice? I decided after posting the question about going over there by private or by the ship, decided easier just to go thru the ship.

    Thanks for any suggestions :)

  9. Booked with them yesterday for the Grand Tour. We get to Port at 0700 and meet up with them at 0900. From what it sounds like its about a 3 - 4 hour tour. Assuming that, we don't depart until 1700 (5PM). I assume that we start and end the tour close to the port/pier? If so what else is there to do around there for a few hours as we typically don't like to go on the ship until its time for it to depart. We don't really like to do much shopping right around the pier either as we would like to shop outside the port and see the local culture as much as possible, so if there is shipping or any other areas of interest to see please let me know and we'll try to get to them before we have to get back on board.

    Cheers!

I may be mistaken, but I'm also researching our trip there as well. I thought they have the optional beach at the end. You can either go back and 2 or stay at the beach a few hrs which puts you there til 4. That's closer to the departing time.

  10. Yes, many more responses on Fl departures. You can also do a search and this same question is posted all the time. So you can read up on the many places. Many cruisers like the 17th st area. We always stay at the Hyatt Place 17th St. We also use Valuetrips.com for a deal when there is one. Depends on time of yr if you can save more. We're playing 99.00 for Sep. Free shuttle from the airport...free breakfast. Close to port, restaurants, grocery store across the street and a wine store. Good location.

  11. Actually been trying to get a response from Javin, but no answer to my emails the last few days. So decided to use Royston Tours. My emails come back that I have the wrong address. I went to their website and just put the info in and it sends automatically without an address. So can't go wrong. Anyone get in contact with them lately? Email address? Comes back as [email protected] it doesn't exist.

My next try will have to be Greyford Tours.

    Suggestions?

  12. Yeah its a great starting camera. I was the same way for about a year I kept getting frustrated. Its a steep learning curve on them... I haven't gone completely to manual mode yet. That is complicated but I use aperture mode and shutter mode a lot. Biggest thing is how to use your light... you will learn that light is the most important thing. I took a class on Udemy that something just clicked with it and I finally got it. I got it when it went on sale to so I didnt have to pay full price.

And its ok to shoot in auto... some of my great photos came out in auto. But I used to put a lot of pressure on myself to get out of it... but if you get the results you want out of auto, why not right?

But definitely check out the class.... its awesome... and it you can do it at your own pace... great class!

    Hope this helps!

Thanks for the info! Will look at that. I paid full price unfortunately :(

  13. Yep thats the one! It was the first itinerary. I think they had two. The camera is a Nikon D40. I love it! I dont even think they make it anymore. I will be taking it on every cruise from now on. The only thing I dont care for is that it does not take video. So we have our Muvi HD camera for that.

I have that one! I'm not a photographer, so I stopped using it because I thought it was too complicated for me. Any tips? Any settings you use a lot? Much appreciated since it's just sitting here not getting used :( The Nikon that is...
