Same here. Itinerary and timing worked for us and we did want to try a smaller ship. (having sailed Celebrity mostly) One and done. We too found the included excursions on Viking spent more time on people getting on and off the buses plus way too long pit stops. Thank goodness we added on some private tours. While we had upgraded to a larger cabin with a balcony, we never ended up using as it was awful! Food was indeed inconsistent (although the breads and desserts were terrific). We ended up eating at the buffet a lot as the offerings were the same as in the dining room, we didn't want or need to spend hours on a meal and we enjoyed eating outside most nights. They did however do a good job on themed outdoor meals/BBQs and some fun specialty bar set ups. The guest lecturer was fabulous (we were on a Panama Canal cruise) but the onboard activities (not interested in learning bridge or short story writing) and entertainment was not for us So we now have high hopes for our first Azamara cruise next year which we chose for the itinerary first and foremost, as well as recommendations by a friend who highly recommended it.

I have 2!! Are the prices comparable to buying in a store?
-
Well you made my day. Love MZ Wallace bags and not so available up here in Canada now that Nordstrom is gone.
-
Am well aware of Viator and my post was made after exhausting all research of local tour operators. But you are right, may just book the cruise excursion and see what their cancellation policies are. Thank you.
-
Thanks for this. Seemed like Monday was a common date. Will continue my search otherwise use my OBC to book through the ship. Insane prices though.

We are in Aberdeen on Monday June 23rd. Can anyone provide any insight as to why all the tour operators (via Viator, Get your Guide, etc) have that date crossed off? Can they possibly be all booked? Any help is appreciated as the only one I have access to is through our ship which is charging an insane $500 person!

Thanks. Not sure we are brave enough to rent a car and refuse to spend the $1,000 quoted to us by a private driver. Been researching our own travel there, and there are some private tours once you get there. The plan is not to golf but wander the course, picnic and head back. Thanks all. .

That is who I reached out to as it looked like a perfect day. Unfortunately starts too early and ends too late.

Am looking for a shore excursion to get to St Andrews but none are listed on the Azamara site for our June 2025 cruise. Not sure if this is a just not yet listed or just not being offered. Has anyone been on this cruise within the last year and can provide some information as to whether there is/was one available through Azamara? Any and all private excursion offerings that I have researched (excluding one that would charge $1000! for 2 of us) did not fit within our port times. Thank you in advance.

St. Andrews from Lighthouse Hawes Pier in Edinburgh

Curious as to what the outcome of this trip was as I am currently trying to figure this out too. But maybe from Aberdeen which is also a port of call for us. -
We are on the Scottish Intensive next June. The Red Hot Chili Pipers Azamazing Evening is called for 7 pm, can I assume that is when we leave the ship for the show? I only ask because we have a private shore excursion get us back to town at 6:30! Hoping to be able to do both.

And unfortunately, while the quality of the cast was outstanding, a few weeks ago when we were on the Oasis, people in the audience walked out due to boredom and confusion about the storyline. Time to replace CATS with something more fun. Plus am not sure why a full length production needs to take place on a ship where there is so much to do. .

Is this something new RCI is doing?
Mimiya11 replied to nursemom2's topic in Royal Caribbean International
My comment was on the concept of inter-porting and our experience. Our Rome embarkation was strictly based on the availability of our group of 15 and timing to start the cruise. We love both Rome and Barcelona (been to both places a few times for several days - not in the summer). -

OP We had the same exact confusion when we were planning our Med cruise on the Oasis, which we just got off a couple of weeks ago. What we didn't like about inter-porting (our first time) was that our embarkation in Rome is seen as day 5? and Barcelona is considered the first day 1 of the cruise. As a result - there was no sail away party for those getting on in Rome - the teen meet and greet that our granddaughters were looking forward to was not until Barcelona which happened near the end of the cruise. So by then the teens who had met in Barcelona on Day 1 had already made friends. - when we got off the ship in Barcelona, the same line to get on the ship for people embarking and those of us who just wanted to spend a day in port was a crowded mess. - luckily we were able to figure out the booking of shows on the website rather than the app which helped. Overall though our group of 15 had a terrific time but would not board in Rome again. -
New to Royal Advice Please!!!`

Celebrity cruiser here (although we do like to try other lines). We are just off the Oasis of the Seas with our family of 15 (7 of which kids from 3 to 13) on a Med cruise. Your Elite status on Celebrity puts you at Diamond on RC. Each day your sea card will be loaded with 4 free drinks. Our adult kids enjoyed getting one drink per day free from us. The Diamond Lounge on Oasis was in a terrible area (no windows) but a nice place for some quiet (our cruise was packed with kids as expected). The lounge had a nice breakfast spread, afternoon snacks and cookies. Shows were amazing and while we booked them all in advance, the only one that they were turning non reserved people away was the Aqua Show. GO! We all had a ball. Having said that, for us RCI is the way to go with family groups as there was a ton of fun things for the kids to do. -
Thanks for the advice. But in the end, it is a holiday on the day we disembark and the office is closed which I found out randomly by going on their website. We booked through Expedia yet they confirmed a reservation!!! In the process of booking directly through our only option Locauto at the railway station. A lot more $$ too.

We have a rental car booked on the day we disembark but forgot to figure out an important detail Are there shuttle buses from the port to car rentals? Thanks.

Any current/recent Diamond level members on the Oasis?
Mimiya11 replied to Mimiya11's topic in Royal Caribbean International
Thanks all Will visit out of curiosity and the espresso machine 🙂 -
Not having sailing on RCI for years, would like to take advantage of my Celebrity Elite status while on the Oasis next week. I have been reading varied information about access to the lounge byr Diamond level members if the ship has a high volume of Diamond Plus and higher members? Anyone on the Oasis now or recently who can share their experience? Thank you

Interesting. As you said, food is very subjective. No fault of the wonderful staff.

Agree re Eden!! We personally are done with AQ and Blu after our March experience on the Apex. Other than the lovely dining room and breakfasts, the dinners were less than appealing than we remember from many Aqua experiences in the past. Bread baskets are laughable (they used to have lovely breadsticks and varied breads - no more). This was also the first time we chose MDR menu items as there was nothing appealing to choose from (and we are really not fussy) For the price difference, when we sail Celebrity again, no more Aqua for us and we will pay for specialty restaurants. Now if only the suite prices were not so insane lately.....we loved Luminae!

Thank you so very much Roger. Will be looking at the menus and booking one. I take it they are both in shopping or cultural areas that we can wander around afterwards?
-
We are heading there next month, also on the Oasis. Plan is to do it on our own. Any noteworthy restaurant recommendations?

Tapas Recommendations - Away from the crowds
Mimiya11 replied to Mimiya11's topic in Spain and Portugal Ports
Thanks for the recommendations. Will add these two for another trip. Just yesterday I made a reservation at Nix Tapas and Drinks which had great reviews and appeared a bit closer to the cruise terminal (from what I see google maps) . -

Thanks as usual edinburgher! And yes of course I have been searching all morning. Found a few, but of course we are in Barcelona on a SUNDAY so the gems that I found are closed. Thanks re the Parc de la Ciutadella, which we didn't go to last time. We did go to Parc Guell, which the rest of our family will wander.
