  1. I have a PV reserved for Dec. 12 Hawaiian cruise.  My understanding is that Viking restocks the mini fridge daily including alcoholic beverages.  Question:  Is the alcohol restocking included with the room or is it charged to the onboard account?  Additionally, can you ask for specific beverages?  I hope this hasn’t been answered 25 times already

  2. Thanks to all for the great advice.  I did make a reservation at the Double Tree by Hilton.  If we leave reasonably early we should have decent traffic going to the port and then the hotel and parking about the same as just parking at the terminal.  I did check and the Ship is scheduled for berth 93. I’ll continue to check on n Jim’s suggestion with rental cars.

A lot of good information available here.  Thanks again

  3. Thanks Ebtrip.  It’s kind of a funny situation.  We will commence travel from Apache Junction, AZ.  To fly is approximately the same cost as driving with parking and overnight the night before.  I’m a little gun shy after the airport issues this December.  Even if Viking is arranging flights, the complete meltdown was almost a perfect storm.

Since you have done several of these itineraries do you have any information about seas and temperatures crossing?  We’ve done several transatlantic trips but not transpacific and not sure what to expect.  I realize the Pacific will do what it wants to do, but generally speaking, is this a turbulent time period?

  4. I have booked Hawaiian Sojourn for December 12, 2023.  My question concerns driving to the LA Cruise Port, and parking.  It appears Viking uses Pier 93 (?).  I know parking is available for $$.  First question; do I need a reservation for parking?  Second question; are there multiple parking lots for the various pier areas?  I’d rather be confused now and not as I arrive.  Any help appreciated.

    Mike

  5. I'm usually one of, if not the, first in line in Seabourn Square coffee bar.  Some baristas will go out of their way to serve early, but they have preparation for their shift and I do appreciate, but don't expect it.  Typically they know your drink and if you just sit patiently it will come, in order of your arrival.  Gotta love them.

We’ve done almost 10 cruises on SB as OB. We have always gotten our room our assignment 10 - 14 days out and have never been disappointed in the suite assigned to us.  Every veranda suite is the same (except for the HC ones) and it just comes down to location. We love having the same suite no matter which SB ship we’re on and always feel home when we get on board. It’s a real Awwww moment when we first walk into our suite after a long journey to get there. Champagne awaits and the vacation begins.

Give up hoping for a PH suite as they almost always the first suites to book up.  If you don’t expect it you won’t be disappointed. 😀

Hoping for a Penthouse but expecting deck 5 or 6 in a veranda which is very nice.

Hi Mike, Ann says the massage is an abbreviated one, maybe 25 minutes, and they try to sell you more things.  They will tell you what they think is wrong with you, and what you need to buy from them to get better.  She recommends the wine discount , although the bags of laundry are nice.  (We have been cruising a lot since we cruised together on Odyssey TA, and are now platinum, which eliminates having to choose among benefits.)

    Peter & Ann

Peter and Ann, really nice to hear from you.  I figured the massage would be short.  Think we’ll go with the bags of laundry.  Hopefully will have decent weather and, I’ll try to drain some Single Malt as a tribute to you.  Thanks for the post.

  8. Thanks, the Thomas Keller question was odd in that I thought it was outside.  New since we last cruised Seabourn.

    4.  What is the Seabourn massage offered as a perk for Silver?  Is it a free massage of choice or an abbreviated massage that may need an additional fee to enjoy?  Subjective for sure !

  9. We are booked, just recently, for the August 31 Sojourn trip South to Vancouver.  I have a couple questions.  We have not sailed Seabourn for about three years.

    1.  There was mention of blue jackets in a recent review.  Are these automatically provided for our use while on the cruise?

    2.  When we last sailed there was an opportunity to request liquor to be stalked in your stateroom.  Is this still the case or is it small bottles in the mini bar?

    3.  The Grill has apparently changed to a tough reservation.  Is this likely to affect a cold weather cruise?

I'm sure I'll have more questions but this is a start.  Thanks for the replies in advance.

  10. We are booked on Sojourn for 14 day Alaska Aug. 31st-Sept. 14 in an OB.  We have done this several times on various lines and ships and have never been disappointed, but, if you get a cabin you wouldn't have chosen, I guess you should accept or choose as this is not a guarantee of a particular room but of a category level.  Having said that, I'm secretly hoping for a Penthouse!

A standard package on Viking is “complimentary” which means the costs are part of the cruise price. The $20 is for an upgrade package, so a bit of apples and oranges.

No, a standard package on Viking includes limited selection beer and wine During Meals.  The Silver Spirits Beverage package is different.  It includes upgraded wine and beer, plus liquor and cocktails.

just have to ask. What lines have better deals? I’d love to know.

When you consider the gratuities, and drink package, Seabourn is competitive and probably better overall product.  Viking ocean charges $20 pp per day with no added gratuities.  Their selection is comparable (possibly better in some liquor/Cognac categories) but without the package Viking's per drink price is less by quite a margin.  Viking's drink prices include the gratuity.  And Grey Goose is still Grey Goose regardless of which ship it is being poured on.  If I didn't feel like I was being taken advantage of I would probably not be as concerned.  Windstar has a great product but.....They are not cheap cruises and overpriced regarding drinks.

The Heineken draft was $5. They may have had Stella on draft for 5.50. There was so much change in the drinks and drink pkg, it's hard to be specific. We were on the package so, we didn't pay a lot of attention to the price. 8.50  - 8.95 seems about right. I don't have a copy of the current bar menu, just what's included in the drink package. Sorry.

I guess I'm not going on any more Windstar cruises.  My history with WS began on the Surf several years back.  They would not allow you to bring on any liquor but the bartenders poured good sized drinks and unless staying drunk was a goal I felt the pricing without the package was pretty decent.  Then we went on the Legend and they didn't seem to care if you brought some liquor on, but again, the pours were decent and prices not too bad.  The last experience was the Breeze last summer.  Nothing allowed to be carried on, very carefully measured shots, higher prices, and generally poor service made it a very poor bar experience.  Now, I was about to pop on a 14 day Caribbean but $135 per day extra and the bar prices has turned me completely off Windstar.  ($59/day plus 15% X 2)  Much of their product is great, but being fleeced after ponying up pretty big bucks to ride their boat has given me a poor taste.  That will be it for us.

I do not find the "Enrich your trip" on My Viking Journey. Is there a secret handshake I need to use?

We will be on the Viking Lif, BUD-AMS April 2020.

I think you will find Enhance rather than Enrich your trip

I’m almost certain it was at the Living Room bar on Deck 1.

They have a case of small sandwiches.

I didn’t try it but it was available in the living room bar.  I saw some eating it and they seemed to enjoy it.  I did enjoy the pickled herring in Mamsens.  My question is why that wasn’t available in the World Cafe?  I suppose it makes Mamsens unique.

  16. Wendy, not agreeing one way or another but virtually all lines that offer packages require both to have it AND for the duration.

Peigrine, in my opinion, very high double digit to triple digit scotch is a totally different category.  For example, Seabourn includes alchohol, but the really high end scotch isn’t included.  We really are talking about a small group who are willing and able to comfortably pay in excess of $100/shot, while a good selection of very good scotch is included.  My point is that Viking has a very limited included selection.  On my recent trip, Bowmore 15, and Glenfiddich 12, were the only single malts that were included.  Bowmore is fairy well peated and therefore a more limited group of consumers.  Both are great but two selections is not really competitive.  I’ll guess that  Seabourn and  Silversea had 8-12.  Since my SSBP was complimentary and the other options were decent Cognac I survived the “ordeal”.
