Thanks for the update and it is sad to not have the sauna.  Are there showers in the changing room to use since the ones in the room are more confining?

Actually the showers in the Edge room are pretty generous, relatively speaking.

I believe in the locker room, there may be one small shower.  The whole spa/gym setup is pretty disappointing, IMO.

Does anyone know if the Celebrity Edge has a free sauna in the men's changing room adjacent to the gym area and if there are showers in this changing room?

I was just on the edge in January. No they do not have any free steam or sauna in the men's locker room. It is pretty sad and boring. Even the paid area doesn't have much to offer, AND it's all coed. 😔

I'm a bit late but I was on the Jade in February 2019 and it had a large whirlpool in the thermal suite. You can also see it on the deckplans. I'll be on the Jade again in April 2021 and hope it's not removed by then. If the cruise lines are cutting costs, I can't see that maintenance being a priority.

I got hooked on the thermal suite on the Jade and now get it every time I cruise.

Very interesting...always love a nice plunge in the hottub, especially if I don't have to wear a bathing suit.  😉

On the Jade class ships, are the thermal suites gender-specific or co-ed?

If there is a hot tub in the mens wet area at any gym I have been too, most men are nude, but I guess its a personal choice. I think most men would agree its more relaxing nude.

Depends on the nationality, I go naked. I sometimes find that people see what others do and then follow suit.

    Sounds good and I agree.

Do you guys experience the same types of good conversations in the hot tub as you do in the steam/sauna...or do you find it harder to have conversations in there?

    P&O Ventura
    4 night cruise to Zebrugge/Bruges Feb 7 2020

...many seemed unsure how to use a sauna/steam & I only saw one other person use the sauna wearing a towel/nude (one guy used the steam in full gym kit)  most men kept their shorts firmly on & even changed using towels which I find hilarious.

Yes I always find it absurd (and downright rude/inconsiderate when guys where clothes and sneakers inside the spa areas.  Their true purpose and origin of the steam room and sauna was to use it nude & to clear out all of your impurities and toxins. It's a place of relaxation, and cleanliness and Purity. Wearing your clothes and shoes inside the steam room brings in all the environmental impurities and dirt, and causes unnecessary mud on the floor and benches.  This is a place where people may have their bare skin exposed.

And yes I find it utterly ridiculous to see guys put on a big show, as they use their towels and struggling to wiggle out of their underwear beneath the towel. (don't they know that commotion causes a bigger scene than just getting nude for all of 3 seconds while they switch attire!?!)  So immature and silly.  Hell, with all of that effort and wiggling and stuff, they can skip their real aerobic workout.  Lol

Excellent job....but there are a lot of mainline cruise ships not on here.  I'd love to add to the list.  Is there an online version of the spreadsheet.  How can I help?  I love steam and sauna on cruise ships....and they are becoming rare!

This would be great if we could all collectively make updates to the list, as of January 2020...as I know there have been a few refurbs and the listing may be outdated a bit.

Hi!  Great!  It should be a fun cruise, although there seems to be much more planning involved with these Atlantis cruises, such as what to wear to all the dances!

    Dave

oh yeah?  Well apparently I hadn't paid attention the event requirements.

I haven't been paying attention or reading the right things...haha!

Is it posted a certain place on the website, or have they sent emails/newsletters?

    Hi,

This is Dave and my partner and I are going to be on the Atlantis cruise in March on the Celebrity Summit.  It'll be our second Atlantis cruise and our seventh overall.  We had a blast on last year's Atlantis cruise on the Edge that we booked the Summit for the next March.   Is anyone else going on this cruise?

    Dave

    The Polaroid guy

Hi there----will be on this cruise also!

After 36 pages and years of reviews... What is everyones go to cruise line?  Making plans for next year and need a solid "go to" single sex/ no pay option.  Is it still Royal?

Sadly, most of the Cruise Lines are re removing single sex wet areas.

I have been on many of them, and I am confident to report that most Carnival ships, relatively speaking, still offer these amenities.  Of their fleet, they have the highest ratio of "still offer free steam/sauna", and that will probably become my "go to" Line.

  10. OK, a little more clarity from a more competent (fingers crossed) adviser.  Hope this helps some people plan accordingly:

"Thank you for your email, and thank you for being a valued member of the RCI family. It is my pleasure to assist you today.

Was this response recent? I ask because I can confirm that Navigator of the Seas no longer has a free men’s sauna and steam room. After it’s remodel the only men’s steam room available is a small one in the spa men’s locker room, which is only accessible if you have a booked spa treatment. . The gym was moved during the remodel and the free steam and sauna were not put back in.

Yes, it was actually a couple of weeks ago that they sent this email :-/

Ive been following this thread for years, first time I've posted , Has anyone been on the RCI Enchantment of the Seas lately, Its been 7 years for me, Is there still a mens sauna or steam room ?

I emailed RCI directly and here is their response:

"Thank you for your email. It is my pleasure to respond to your inquiry.

At this point in time, single-sex complimentary sauna and steam room usage is available on both the Explorer of the Seas and Serenade of the Seas. The Symphony of the Seas instead offers Thermal Suites that can be used for a fee that offer sauna, wet and dry steam rooms, showers and heated beds. With that said, the complimentary men's sauna and steam room is also offered on the following ships:

    Adventure of the Seas
    Brilliance of the Seas
    Freedom of the Seas
    Grandeur of the Seas
    Independence of the Seas
    Jewel of the Seas
    Liberty of the Seas
    Mariner of the Seas
    Navigator of the Seas
    Radiance of the Seas
    Rhapsody of the Seas
    Vision of the Seas
    Voyager of the Seas"

Since you are in the DC area, you should check out the spa at the Salamander in Middleburg, VA. It is the best single sex thermal area I have ever experienced on land. Extra large whirlpool, two hot stone beds, large steam room with chromotherapy and an experience shower. They give you nice fluffy robes to use while you are in there, but a towel or less is mostly what I wear there.

Thanks for the information.  I sometimes go to SpaWorld as well.  At Salamander, do you know if they offer a day pass, or if you have to be a guest (or book an appt to use the spa)?

Friends, this is a great list from Roger. Now it's publicly viewable and editable at https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ROCmeNSYj_VwCYs3IUjWbrcEomFeqOrvIDUnXG6GLTg/edit?usp=sharing

Thanks for doing this. Has this been updated as of July 2019?  Seems like the link is dead.

Both Summit and Infinity are M class ships and are scheduled for major drydocks with similar reworks. Summit happened in March, Infinity is scheduled for November. Check out Mikeedm's post #770 and my post #766 of pictures of the reworked  Millennium, also an M class ship. Unfortunately they have taken away what was a great free large sauna with views to the ocean, and replaced it with a free sauna that holds about 4 people with no view. Definitely not an upgrade! The Equinox is scheduled for drydock in June. It is an S class ship, and no change in the sauna situation is expected. It has a medium sized free sauna connected to the locker room with three large showers. Thank goodness they're not touching that sauna. It is quite busy in the afternoon. Hope this helps.

Yes, the last time I was on the Summit the sauna was quite busy...being as it was the only option of sweat relaxation.  The only thing I didn't like was that there was a huge window (behind where you sat) looking in from the locker room.  It allowed no privacy at all, especially when you are engaged in deep conversation.  Hopefully that flaw gets changed in the redesign.

I will say, though, that the little locker room attendant who worked on the ship was very "attentive" to me.  We had extensive and amazing conversations everytime I visited.  He was very interested in me, and found a way to engage in conversation with me, even when others were around!  I always love those personal connections with crew members.

@cruisestud I did a cruise on the Conquest last August. Very large sauna and steam overlooking the sea.
Busy by the moment, morning around 7:00 to 9:00 and end of the day around 4:00.
Sometimes also in the evening. We have them nice discussions.
We look to redo a cruise in the Conquest class soon

thank you. I will remember that.  What time of day did you find was the busiest and had the most amount of guys visiting?   I'm looking to have some decent interactions with guys and have some very enlightning conversation
