  1. We probably should still get confirmation from a reliable Viking source. I will have our Travel Agent do the research, contact, and leg work to see what the deal is.
  2. Not everyone travels on Viking Air. We always put ours on when we get to the pier and about to board the ship. In fact, one time the Viking Rep wanted to put them on for us! As for whether it matters or not, I don't think so. Last time we got upgraded at the terminal (to our amazement). They just gave us blank baggage tags (like when you check in at an airline desk), and we printed our names and new cabin number on them. The bags arrived just the same time as with the pre-printed tags.
  3. CDNPolar - we agree! You can actually hear yourself think is correct! And by the fast number of likes clicked, I'd say many others do too.
  4. Interesting! I do remember a poster on Viking Cruise Critic forum telling how he found the wifi much better if he squeezed in near the cabin hall door. He actually said it was better than the balcony. But probably worth trying out both! For me, I spotted a router right near the set of computers on Deck 1 by the Excursions desks. Still not great, but better than the room. Note: Viking does NOT have inside cabins.
  5. Lest we all get in a tizzy - and we board Saturn on June 7th . . . . Please reference this post on the actual Roll Call of the current Saturn (which is enroute from Iceland to Greenland).
  6. There are so many threads and discussions on this topic. Rather than repeat them all again, take a look at them by doing a search in the search bar under this forum. Here is just one example:
  7. tocruiseguy - Yes, that's what is good about all the different cruise lines offering different things. Allows everyone to discover and the find the things they like. If there wasn't variety, it would be tough for all of us! Just like there are lots of restaurants and we all go to ones that we enjoy, but also keep trying new ones just to see if they fit! 🙂 Enjoy!
  8. Seriously? You are bothered by the word "Goodwill" / Good grief. Cash the check and move on. Others have had problems just getting their money back, period. Sorry for the words they used.
  9. So that's what it looks like! On our July Midnight Sun cruise, we only saw fog!! Wonder if some months are better than others for viewing the North Cape. Luck of the draw.
  10. We've actually seen quite a number of Viking walking tours with demanding rating - and our experience is that if they say that, they mean it. We like the demanding walking tours, but they aren't for everyone. We did Into the Midnight Sun last July. Some of the demanding walking tours were actually demanding plus (like hiking in Lofoten) and some were flatter and just several miles of walking so length made them demanding (like one in Shetland). Others the terrain made the difference (like cobblestones or rough non-paved ground).
  11. The Mars may be better equipped now, if it has StarLink. We did the Star on this cruise last Dec. Internet was so bad, no one really got anything done. That being said, Viking also expressly asks guests not to Zoom, Stream, or anything like that in consideration of other guests. I have heard that with the ships that have Starlink capabilities, things have improved, but have not heard Viking give the OK as of yet. We are on the new Saturn soon and will see. I guess it boils down to capability and consideration of other guests. You could ask Viking but I'm sure they will say please don't do it. But who knows.
  12. Thanks. I do see that. The page may vary, depending on how long your Viking Invoice is. On my documents it appears right after the Shore Excursions available date: I always have seen it there but was unaware that this could be changed. Thanks everyone for pointing out that it can. I will contact our Travel Agent (who is part of a large agency) and see about getting that updated.
  13. So are you voting with your wallet and words and just doing Celebrity from now on? And leaving Viking?
  14. CharTrav - that is what I was trying to indicate to the OP. Stuff gets sent by mail and email to your Travel Agent by Viking and not you. That has the potential for being a problem unless you have a good Travel Agency.
  15. Following as we are doing this exact post-extension next March. I wondered the same thing.
  16. We didn't get tags once and learned if you use a Travel Agent, Viking sends those things to the Agent, who is supposed to forward them on to you. But if the Agent is out on vacation or sick, that might not happen. Fortunately our new agent is sharp and on the ball. Viking also sends email updates and notices like the invoices and final edocs to the travel agent and not us. Not sure why they can't just email us as a cc as well as the agent.
  17. Yes, the whole excursion thing on Viking is quite crazy! In fact, since we started traveling with Viking Ocean - this seems to be one of the top 5 topics discussed the past years on Cruise Critic. Your idea has also been presented and offered up a few times, and I'm sure that Viking has heard a lot of feedback on this topic. (The subtopic has seemed to be the mobility/non-mobility of passengers on tours - and should Viking create special tours for the Ocean ships like they do for River.)
  18. Andy - We love Indian food. How were you able to get it on Viking Ocean cruises? Did you talk with the head chef? one of the staff? Did you get it via room service or in MDR? Kent
  19. Our passengers in Dec on the Star went to either the Star Theatre or the Restaurant, depending on your cabin number. Then we were instructed to go to the room and watch the safety video and mark that we had watched it. We went to Star Theatre. one of the performers gave a little talk to about 20 of us. (no video - just live demonstration). When we left, they ushered in the next group of 20 arrivals. For those concerned, when we boarded, had to pee as well, so just told them hold on a minute and slipped into the bathrooms outside the Star Theatre. So don't worry - you can take a moment to go before you have the briefing!
  20. What's a "Virgin wine list" ? Non-alcoholic wine?
  21. I miss them too! I asked Viking and they said (at least in the USA) they no longer do this, and they've run out of inventory. Obviously not since you got some!
  22. Azulan - I'm beginning to think different ships do things differently. I had contacted Viking Saturn several days ago to discuss our June 7th Iceland Cruise Meet & Mingle - but have never heard from them. When I had done this before with Viking Star, I heard back immediately from the Guest Services Manager. (Nick). They were so helpful. They also said the Guest Services Manager is the point person for doing these, and he then reached out to the CD and Hotel Manager. I don't think Viking is consistent. I had called the Viking Guest Relations office again and they had told me to go ahead and contact the ship directly again. To cover all bases, I have sent a copy of our request to customerrelations@vikingcruises.com with all the details. We'll see what happens. In our situation, worst case is that I know someone on the current Saturn cruise and will have them go contact the Guest Services Manager in person. Kent
  23. You can find the projected times on your Viking Invoice - page 3. It shows which ports also are planned for tendering. This is all subject to change of course.
