Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. It was pretty blatant on Freedom last week. I smelled it on the promenade deck smoking section and in the pool area.
  2. On Freedom last week they had a strawberry sorbet that was pretty good. There was a vegan ice cream (No Bull brand, Vanilla flavor) and the ingredients may be safe for you, but when I looked just now it is produced on the same equipment that processes tree nuts. https://www.godairyfree.org/product-reviews/no-bull-ice-cream-dairy-free There were also vegan oat bars, the first night was peanut butter and the second night was a mixed berry one. I don’t think those had any other nuts. The last night they made me a vegan blueberry cobbler which had the cooked blueberries with dried oats on top. I’m not totally familiar with the tree nut restrictions but hopefully that gives you a better idea of what might be available on your ship.
  3. Just wanted to update and say the staff on Freedom did a great job accommodating my restrictions. The first night they included something I couldn’t eat but were much more careful after that. They even made me a special lunch option to eat on Coco Cay, which I wasn’t expecting. Thanks again for everyone’s tips and advice. This one from @travellovers2 was particularly helpful, as the head waiter ended up relying on the “can eat” list instead of the “can’t eat” one.
  4. I noticed this on Freedom last week. The ice cream was still Ben & Jerry’s but maybe that’s being phased out.
  5. I’ve only done one cruise with Carnival but thought overall they are more similar than different aside from ship features. I found the food to be much better on Carnival last year than most of my RC cruises, but that’s subjective and YMMV. Sorrento’s pizza on RC is pretty good IMO. Even if you don’t try the Flowrider, it’s fun to sit and watch on the shaded grandstand, especially during stand up surfing. I also second the advice on seeing an ice show. If you get a drinks package you won’t be limited to 15 drinks per day like on Carnival. Johnny Rockets does cost money, but it’s a cover charge, so you can eat however much you want for the price. The only things that are not included are shakes and sodas (unless you have a drink package). If you are possibly interested in any other dining, check the cruise planner or your app right now because the discounts for Black Friday have been pretty good. With dynamic pricing this varies by sailing though. Edit - if you have My Time Dining I’d recommend making reservations through the app or website as soon as you are able to. There will be a non-reservations line but it tends to be longer. Now the earliest you can do MTD is 6:45 so if you want earlier then switch to traditional dining.
  6. I don't doubt prices are higher based off the posts here. But judging by my offers from Club Royale, they aren't filling up the ships as well as they did last year. To give context: my ordinary offer is consistently around $200 off. Now I get 2-3 emails a week with comp interior offers for shorter sailings. Usually not on the Oasis or Quantum classes, but still. Back in the day I rarely ever got comp offers and they only covered hurricane season. Now the emails are pouring in for Spring Break sailings, which I'd think would be in much higher demand.
  7. I don’t expect them to either. But it seems like there’s a way for it to work because 95% of websites do work with them in my experience. Some of those sites are clearly more advanced than RC’s.
  8. I expect they will kick it back to the developers at RC to follow web standards. But I do hope someone there listens to your complaint. It’d make it easier for all of us. Bitwarden is great. It’s been a couple of years since I used LastPass but as I recall LastPass didn’t require any clicks to fill fields. On Bitwarden I have to click on my username inside the manager to fill them. (That is, on most sites, not RC’s where it doesn’t work). So it requires an extra click, but otherwise feels the same as LastPass. Small price to pay and worth it to me because it’s free for all devices.
  9. I don't think it's LastPass's fault. It comes down to the way RC has their website coded. I use Bitwarden and it also doesn't fill for me like it does on 95% of other websites. I just copy the password now or use the password manager built into my browsers.
  10. Not recently but I did cruise on Breakaway out of New Orleans in 2018. I thought the vibe was great. I've always found New Orleans to be a friendly and welcoming place on land and it seemed the same onboard. It was definitely a diverse mix of people and ages, but didn't feel like the population was quite as old as some of my past cruises have skewed. The nightclub was more popular than I was used to with Royal Caribbean ships.
  11. I don't think I've ever heard true dance (genre) music in any of the lounges on Royal Caribbean ships. Tends to be more top 40 or popular hip hop in my experience. Plus any live music going on and usually Latin music somewhere. It isn't the best cruise line for nightlife IMO. Any late night stuff has usually been sparsely attended on the ships I was on. Of course it will also depend on demographics on board.
  12. To check a different sailing, tap the calendar icon at the very top, then at the bottom tap "Change Ship/Dates". Then tap "Browse our ships" and select your ship, then sailing.
  13. Driving to Tampa’s port requires some downtown driving so it’s a little harder to get to than PC, but overall not too bad. Staff were great on embarkation day. My strike against Tampa is that on debark day the port staff were horrible about picking people up outside. My dad was overdue for hip surgery, in a lot of pain, and couldn’t walk long distances. I walked across the street to get my car and pick him up. When I drove to the bench where he was waiting the port staff were yelling at me to “GO ALL THE WAY DOWN!”. He would have had to walk a long way to get picked up and as I recall there was no signage about this. There was plenty of space in front of, behind, and in the lanes beside me and it took less than a minute for him to get up, get in, and me to drive away. Other people in my social media group were complaining about it too and apparently they sicced the cops on others who didn’t comply. This was the building where terminal 3 is (we were on Carnival but I think Royal Caribbean uses the same building).
