When looking at coverage make sure you look at the policy limits. On a recent cruise we were caught up in cancelled flights due to weather and had to rebook new flights at the airport to make it to cruise on time as the original carrier couldn't get us there until after the cruise left. Upshot was we paid $157/pp for the original flights (which Southwest refunded). The new flights were $651/pp. Because it was covered under travel day and my limit was $150/pp we're being reimbursed $300 toward the new flights. Our total OOP is around $700 ($1350 for the new flights - $300 refund from SW - $300 from insurance).
Did you get the refund from SW because they couldn't rebook to get you there on time or because you had insurance?

I always purchase travel insurance outside of the cruise line. You can use the links above but you have to make sure the company you select is offering you primary coverage rather than secondary coverage where your health/homeowners pays first and then the travel insurance kicks in.
I usually use Travelex and they cover the dollar amount you are out......flights, non refundable payments, etc. for the covered reasons. Also, much better medical, trip interrupt, etc

Good to know:)

Thank you both:)

How do most of you obtain flight insurance....as part of your cruise insurance? We have insurance through RC and I don't think flight cancellation is included. This last week has been crazy as we are supposed to sail 9/30 out of San Juan. We originally had flights with SW and arriving on Friday. Our hotel cancelled which prompted me to start looking to fly in on Saturday and go straight to the boat. I looked into changing my SW reservation but was unable to secure reservations for Saturday. So...........I then secured reservations through the Sea2Air with American. Now I am fearing that if we get cancelled that I will be out 2 sets of tickets for 5 peeps. Anyone had similar experience?
-
What method did they use to cancel? We also have the Sheraton reserved for the 29th. I haven't been able to reach them, and haven't received any emails, texts or phone calls from them.
Call the main reservation line for the hotel chain....Marriott, Hilton etc.

would you really fly to SJU for a 3 night cruise?
Not likely it will happen anyway. SW has cancelled all flights through end of month. Other lines may follow
I have a flight with SW which has not been cancelled 9/29....yet.

Please. Put your iPhone down. You can list all the ifs you want.
The truth is that RCCL is not going to put any customers in harm's way. They have done everything they can to help those of us who are on their ships now: free WiFi, a room with laptops and free phone service, paying any airline change fees, etc. They will do the same for the next group of passengers. They know a lot more about conditions than you. If you don't have a dog in the fight and are just fanning the flames that helps no one. If you have a cruise in the next week, wait for news from RCCL. Now I'm going for a 1/2 price drink.
What he said:D

If you cruise a lot this doesn't seem too bad:
"We know these changes are disappointing, and we are truly sorry for the storm’s impact on your vacation. Should you choose to sail with us we will provide you with a refund of 60% of your cruise fare paid in the form of a refundable onboard credit, and an additional 50% future cruise credit, for a cruise booked within the next year."
But if this is your one and only it pretty much stinks.
I agree....I see it as 3 days plus 60% of my money back and then 50% toward my next sailing 110% refund :) But I agree...If this is your one any only the 50% doesn't mean much.

Thanks Dan! I am supposed to be sailing on Adventure of the Seas on 9/23 and have not received an update from Royal Caribbean yet. Your update is more than I have gotten from them!
The 9/23 sailing now is scheduled to embark from San Juan for a 3 day to St. Kitts and Antigua. Choosing to sail will get you 60% fcc.

You should Hurricane Maria thread, people actually think they can fly out and in San Juan airport for Saturday's AOS arrival and departure.

They might be thinking that since the cruiselines haven't cancelled or switched ports as of this late date.

Well I did just speak to Jet Blue and the Marriott. Jetblue expects the airport to open tonight and the Marriott has power and is open to those with reservations. I'll keep packing I guess
That is the news I like to hear.

Does anyone know if the docks at San Juan ports are still there and in tack? We are suppose to sail from San Juan but if there are no docks there how can we do that? Our cruise is October 1, 2017.
Has your cruise been cancelled or moved to another port?
-
Old San Juan is destroyed and most of San Juan is badly flooded and the port is just as bad. The airport is also closed with roofs collapsing and no power. They will not be able to restore power for a long time. I have not heard from my family and friend and I am very scare since some lived in Comerio where the town webt under water. FEMA has not been able to acccess anything since there is so much damage. My sister works for FEMA but not in San Juan so we will see what comes up on their wire. Lets all pray!
The news last night stated that the airport hopes to resume flights by Friday. I saw on another thread that a beachfront restaurant is expected to reopen on Saturday. Hearing so many different things. If they know they are planning to cancel, then why the delay? We are set to sail on 9/30 and at this point I don't care where we sail out of.....just want to sail. Hopefully today's announcement will shed some light on not only this weekends sailing but for those of us on other sailings as well.

El Alambique Beach Front Bar & Grill.
Dan.
Great news! I wish the news outlets would look for positives to report rather than all negative stuff. Tourism is the $ there and the implication of no electricity for up to a year makes people think that is for everyone. Understandably, there will be parts of the island that this is true but surely the entire island is not out of play for 6 months to a year.
-
Thanks for the info. Hopefully, operations will resume ASAP as air and boat are the only way in or out to bring in much needed supplies.
-
Currently watching The Weather Channel and the whole island has no power. And the airport has some damage. So I hope you have a Plan B for getting home.
What damage was shown at the airport? All I have seen was that it would open on Friday.
-
Hopefully if they disembark at another port, those on the 23rd sailing will have the opportunity to embark there. We are not set to sail until the 30th but I would be willing to fly into another port to cruise. It would be nice to know what options are on the table.
-
Hopefully 10 pending the status of San Juan.

I would vote (ha) to redeploy Adventure to Florida, even temporarily. Dump all the passengers in Miami or Ft. Lauderdale as there are two close airports in FLL and MIA. Load the 23rd cruise from there and also supplies. Go back to PR as a technical stop and dump supplies and return all Puerto Ricans that embarked in PR (if they want to go back or remain in the states until their infrastructure is back up). Then, continue to the USVI and other islands that need help and drop more supplies. As a passenger on the 23rd and B2B cruise, just floating around is fine by me. RCCL would get the revenue from the next cruisers and still be able to deliver the much needed materials. Just my $.02.
Yes, great idea:) 2+2= up to 4 cents

Pretty good, but all you can do is try. Will you be driving, or do you have to book airplane tickets?
It would involve airline for us.
-
Puerto Rico currently has a category 5 hurricane heading straight for it. We will know more tomorrow.
Yes, I just didn't know if that was something that cruise lines ever did. Prayers for San Juan and all those affected by Maria.
-
We won't really know until we know the extent of damage to San Juan.
But is that a possibility?
-
I appreciate this thread as I have a feeling we will be doing this for our upcoming AOS cruise out of San Juan.
May God be with them.
Do you think you will leave from a different port?
-
Just wondering with the canceling of some of the recent cruises if anyone was able to immediately rebook or if notification of the cancel was just too late to make arrangements even if a room was available.
