  1. I was just looking at the Bermuda travel advisory for our travel authorization and saw that the Joy disembarked yesterday . So i went to the marine travel web site to see if the Joy was in Norfolk and then the projected route of the ship when it leaves Norfork. It looks like the ship arrived via a coastal route. However,  it looks like the route of departure is up through the cheapeake bay , then across the chesapepeake and Delaware canal and then exiting the Delaware bay in route to Bermuda. Is this correct? why not just exit straight away to the open ocean. Also, is this an interesting, way to go? Are there things that make this journy worth being on deck for, interesting landscape, tight passage or navagation, passing landmarks. passing through locks, etc..  I thought this looked interesting but no idea. . When the iternery changed and a sea day was turned into a port day ( norfolk ) i was not that excited.  this might make the passage more interesting , maybe not . I just thought i might ask on the CC site and more nautically minded folk could give some insight.  AND hay --  yeah do i have to pay tax on those drinks now that I am in US waters so Long ---- hay now.  NOW i got lots of questions, next the JOY bridge cam. thanks

There was an April 18th review of masks on planes.

Government said keep wearing ‘em, but a single, totally unqualified, Federal judge said nope, we don’t need no stinkin’ masks.

The "single, totally unqualified, Federal judge" did NOT say 'NOPE we don't need no stinking' masks", at least I do not think that was said.  The judge looked at the law and applying the law stated,  that the CDC did not have the authority to mandate the wearing of Masks of on planes and public transportation. At which Point the Government had and still has the opportunty to seek an injunction on the ruling and Nothing but crickets on their end. This is closer to the truth.

Thank you and others for being so understanding of this "nickel and dime" practice that seems to be so common in the US.  As I mentioned in a previous post, we were on the Star several years ago when the percentage of passengers from the UK was significantly higher that usual, and apparently many of them were accustomed to prices being quoted as "all inclusive."  WOW were so many of them so bent out of shape when they saw their bills for drinks.  Again, though, it may just have been the fact that the Star ran out of Guinness beer on "Guinness Day."

sorry late to this party but on this is likely the most important part of this thread! so when exactly is Guinness is Day . I only know of St. Patrick's day but if there is another day, then I will put that day on the calendar right now! Man I hope it is not during Lent . I give up beer for lent, If it is during Lent, don't even tell me . To run out of any beer is a Shame. I am going to Look up Guinness day and mark it. there are only a couple of places locally that do a proper pour.

Cellars would not give us a bottle of Moet or even open one. So we had to suffer with a glass of Veuve.

after glass , after glass , after glass until we finshed the bottle. would have been easier on the bartender to just pop the cork and leave the bottle. now the bartender has elbow pain --- right !

I have been there a few times. I have done it by public taxi, bus and minibus.  From the west entrance to Warwick, Jobsons is  just to the west (right when facing the ocean). I do it as part of walking from Warwick Long bay and Horseshoe Bay. A beautiful walk with a lot of coves. Jobsen's is very good but since there are no amenities I don't spend long there. People like it because there is no surf so good if you have small children.

this is a "beach walk"?  thanks i am like most here probably , just starting to plan my time on the island

  6. I don't know if this would have an effect but, I did see the transport bus with the bliss sign at LAX this morning so I had the ship on my brain. Then thought about the ship this afternoon when it was windy as it can be in Los Angeles. Not sure what effects the ship but it was very windy gusting this afternoon/ evening. others would know better then me, but that was one thing happening in LA today.

  7. alright Gary. great info so far, this TIME my request (reference My last request ) is the TUBE we can't wait for the TUBE  --I don't know what they call that water slide drop, but we want a full report.... the drop, the curves , the loop ( saw on-line someone not make it around, they said because they were below the 130 lb. minimum) You push the scales over 130 don't you, If not hit the buffet and then the water slide! LET'S GO !!  You should have no problem. I think you already mentioned this as part of your plan, so I am just having fun, if not part of the plan --- don't hurt yourself, but you are working out .... SO!? enjoy your cruise I am lovin your reports and insight. AND I will enjoy it even more when I am sitting at my work desk this week. thanks.

  8. Gary , was thinking of you when i read this. I think i was commenting on your solo post when I saw this but did not want to be the messenger , figured you woould see it.  maybe this will take care of that shaking of the aft Cabins and restaurant. fingers crossed for you .

  9. chengkp75.

you crack me up with your knowledge of the topic. I enjoy reading your responses. For me it becomes trivia knowledge because I will likely never use it . But i feel like a learn a little some thing every time. thank you for your input and my education. I can not imagine that i am the only one that feels this way, so thank you.

  10. alright gary, hope you are exited and ready for the cruise, haven or not. I was pulling for you and your haven bid but also hoping for a review from outside the confines of the the Haven Doors. The assuption is and should be that one recieves upgraded service and amenities in the Haven - you should get what you pay for, right . I will not be traveling in the haven when we finally cruise this summer with my family so i am looking forward to a full ship report. If you do end up in a Haven suite, then sweet and i will be glad for you.  Thank you for your posts leading up to your cruise with pre covid , covid testing and pre tip planning tips. I am sure you will report what covid method you used to meet NCL critera for boarding. have a good trip.

  11. is this a public ferry to St. George or one run by the cruise line? I appreciate the questions being asked and the answers from knowledgeable CC posters. We will have 3 days any suggested plans for multiple day stop over. I believe there is a dolphin experience that we will try to have our daughters do. done it once and it was enjoyable but no need for me to do it again. I read about some caves. Beach days are good and being from CA read about air and water temps and that sounds pretty good to me. like giant fan I enjoy walking with my camera, but that bores my kids.

  12. pulled this from the web site :

"We will comply with all local regulations at all destinations we visit. These regulations are continuously evolving and if an additional test is required at a port of call we will provide advanced notice to all guests. For additional information, please visit Cruise Travel Requirements by Country.

*Please note, in the event a port included as part of an itinerary requires additional COVID-19 testing in order for guests to disembark, Norwegian Cruise line will facilitate the testing onboard."

I believe the verbage of this was recently changed as i thought that i use to read that NCL would test passangers . now it reads " facilitate".

very vague and non commital .  save up some of that OBC ! Time for NCL to step up and say / assure bermuda that they are taking the necessary steps to assure and minimize transmission of Covid. As passengers we are doing our part.  If it is not sufficient to meet the critera for the bermudean ( ? ) government then maybe make changes to itineraries I am sure there is some type of corporate influence there.

  13. why would a test not be accepted for travel. I do recall that when friends were flying to Hawaii the type of test / report from the covid test was written a certain way with name / birthdates/ etc. when we got our test here in Los Angeles ( no travel ) one would only receive an email with you result. I know that is not much and probably is of no help but , anyway. there it is. I am looking for a brilliant and simple idea here.

  14. what pull does the cruise ship industry have with this protocol? is there any weight or persuation that they have in how this protocol is written or implemented or lifted?  Seems like a simple solution if protocol exists, OTC rapid tests, supervised by a crew member sitting on that side of the the table watching the test be self administered, recording the result. OR crew member walking down the hall door opens to stateroom all occupants self administer test , second crew member collect the result. done. result given to passenger and to bermuda , done. No more trying to figure out when to take the test , when to fill out form , I sure they have made the payment quit easy to figure out, so that is not a problem. has the industry stepped up and said " hey guys could we make this a little less confusing" . seemed easy to add Norfolk stop , there could be another change to the itinerary to ease these travel concerns, what about the crew's ablilty to embark / disembark in Bermuda?

  15. does this tourism fee sound like a $ grab from the Bermuda government at this point? what is the 40$ supporting. I do understand having a daily transient guest population day to day during the cruise session and the vulnerability of the island. is this 40 bucks going into some rainy day fund? yeah right! then you have a discussion to make stimulate your economy with tourism or not.  this seems like nickel and dime stuff and one could decide to go elsewhere . but multiply the number of passages passing through Bermuda x 40 $ and. that is serious cash! and a nice side business.

  16. thanks for opening this topic i think a lot of us have the same questions at one time or another, and then mean to put up a thread,  sometimes it happens and sometimes life happens and we forget. I have been looking and it says "verified" my question is verified by whom. Do the tests given at walgeens and CVS meet the criteria above. ( name ,date, result , test, test date etc. ) This has become a cottage industry around LAX and for the service / location and appropriate documentation you pay a premium. It would be nice if the industry would be clear with instructions. I know changing environment ..... patient.... go with the flow. thankyou to all of you being forced to be our test cases and sharing your experiences with use. one thread somewhere on CC said that they found the same vendors as NCL and the test kits were a bit cheaper or  for some reason RCL was better.

  17. can anyone give input about the Wine cellar ( on Joy) not sure if it is on other ships. my wife is a wine drinker and we are considering the prem. drink package. does the wine bar have a selection of wines ( red) that are over the 15 $ limit of the basic package. online it looks like the wines are ordered on a tablet. Not so interested on the bottle list more interested in the wine by the glass. I understand the sparkling wines, ports , and ice wines in addition to the spirits. I am hoping the red wine drinkers can weigh-in here to help with the decision. we are into or out of the premium package together. So i am hoping for an easier sell. If you know what I mean.

  18. thanks for the pics

looks like one nitro tap waiting for a keg - that thing better be backed with Guinness, looks like a couple wines already took up residency at the end of the tap line . if that becomes a nitro cold brew that would be a waste of a perfectly good spot to put a nice creamy stout!

shirt man enjoy your cruise give an update as you are able. B2b you should be able to sample every tap and bottle in the place.

  19. I asked that question : " what about the chimay"  i was TOLD " it includes all beer" . that was only a phone call when we has a NCL rep on on the line for other. not actually on ship.  SO I am hoping it is acurate . I did read on some NCL writtings somewhere " all beers" .

and I am going to look up that 1942.  I hope it is not a Haven only thing.
