    Tip for room steward

What can a room steward do that's over and above? I just got back from my first cruise and while our steward was friendly and greeted us with a smile and a wave in the hallway, and called us by name, "Hello Mr. Krozulu, Mrs. Krozulu", I don't think he did anything extra or unexpected though.

    Star Princess Bridge Cam out?

I'm glad you said this. I was watching the cams during that cruise because I'll be on the Vancouver/Hawaii cruise April 10 and I was really hoping that the bridge cam was still working on the TV even if it's not broadcasting to the Internet.
  3. When my wife and I decided we were going to book a cruise to celebrate our 20th anniversary, I started my research. I read the forums here for months, getting advance notice of sales and promotions, and when I finally booked it was about 18 months early and I was confident I was getting a good price. We leave in less than a month now and the price couldn't be beat (after factoring in the "free" stuff like prepaid gratuities). For the first 3-4 months after booking, it was still super exciting. After that, I kept reading these forums, getting tips, figuring out what to pack, what to buy (things like a multiport usb charging station and magnetic hooks), and what to do at the ports. The excitement picked up again around final payment and now with less than a month to go, it's impossible to contain our excitement. I can very much relate to your excitement :D
  4. I remember reading that "from the gun" is about the same amount as half a can, or 6 oz.

    "I wish I knew before..."

Looks like this, you can find it at most big box retailers in the coffee maker section, or maybe even the camping section.
  6. Tattoos are fine. Tattoos, puking and fighting, not okay.

Day of boarding and dining rooms

On Princess' FAQ for 1st Day Dining: https://www.princess.com/learn/faq_answer/onboard/dining_nightlife.jsp Shortly after we welcome you onboard your spectacular Princess ship, you're invited to relax and dine at the Horizon Court or in one of the ship’s multiple dining rooms. Open from 5 am to 11 pm (12 am on select itineraries), the Horizon Court offers a wide selection of buffet meals or snacks. A primary feature of Princess ships, the top-of-the-ship restaurant features floor-to-ceiling windows with stunning sea views as a backdrop. Or join us in one of our main dining rooms for lunch served up by a staff -- from chefs to waiters -- dedicated to making your dining experience something special. Together, Princess' unique combination of gracious dining staff, fine continental cuisine and new friends make every meal onboard a memorable occasion. (emphasis mine) Not only is the location listed in the Patter, but it's on the website. Staff should have no issue directing you to it when directly asked.

    Car Rental Pickup and Dropoff

Thanks Pizzalady. That's helpful. How crowded was the shuttle, and are they generally waiting at the pier to pick people up? Or do I have to book it with them?
  9. I'm curious about the math on that. A bucket of 5 Budweiser is $23 (4 * $5.75). BOGO 6 (buy 3 get 3 for $1) is $20.25. When would the bucket work out to be a better deal? I'm asking because I like beer and want the best deal when I sail in April.

    Car Rental Pickup and Dropoff

I have car rentals booked for Kauai (Nawiliwili) and Hilo for my Princess cruise in April. What's the best way to get from the pier to Dollar Rent-a-Car at the airport (Lihue and Hilo respectively)? Should I find out about Dollar's shuttle service, if any? Or take a taxi? There will be 4 of us in the group so I'm concerned that the shuttle will only take me as the driver then I have to drive back to pick up the rest of the group. I'd kind of like to minimize delays as much as possible. I've already signed up for Dollar Express. Also, when dropping off the car at the end of the day, how soon before the ship departs should I aim to be at Dollar? Factoring in time to return the car then get back to the ship, and allowing a safe buffer in case of problems.

    Premier Beverage Package Questions

I'm not planning on getting the drink package, but the "not allowed to sip" would be hard for me and my wife. We often try a sip or bite of each other's drink or meal. It's just a "this is good, try it!" kind of thing. Not a "you drink half and then give it back" haha. Of course, we can still do this when we pay full price for our drinks :)

    5 Sea Days each way???!

My first cruise will be RT from Vancouver to Hawaii next April, and my wife and I are anxiously looking forward to it. We both work a lot during the year and vacations are work trips, so this will be a great chance to get away and do nothing. We want to just sit and relax and do nothing. Or maybe fill our day with onboard activities. Either way, it'll be fun. A lot of people have told us that this is too long for a first cruise, but they underestimate our ability to enjoy relaxing.

    Hawaii - 1st Cruise?

We chose Hawaii for our first cruise, too! 15 days RT from Vancouver in April 2018. We knew we wanted to leave from Vancouver (so we didn't have to fly somewhere), but weren't interested in Alaska so Hawaii it is. I'm looking forward to all the sea days.

    Princess coffee concentrate

An Aeropress makes a great cup of coffee and discarding the grounds is a breeze. Especially if you have an empty Pringles tube to pop it into. https://www.amazon.com/Aeropress-Coffee-and-Espresso-Maker/dp/B0047BIWSK/

    Maui, Hilo, Kauai- Google maps

My original plan for Lahaina was to book a ship excursion to the Maui Pineapple Plantation Tour but Princess seems to have taken it off their list of available excursions, so I was looking for something else to do for our group. I was planning on taking a bus or cab to the Ocean Center instead of renting a car (I'll be renting a car in Hilo and Kauai) because I heard traffic around Lahaina is brutal. What do you suggest doing instead of / in addition to the Ocean Center and Whaler's Village?
