  1. We stayed at the El Convento and were very pleased. Conveniently located right in the heart of Old San Juan. Easy walking distance to the forts and many restaurants. Very comfortable, historic hotel. It was a 20 minute ride to the PanAm pier. I am not sure what the current prices are.

  2. We had been to Auba before. On our last trip we tried something very different which was a lot of fun.

We took a glass workshop at Terrafuse. Marian's studio is in Noord, about a 20 minute cab ride from Oranjestad. After a tour of her and her husband, Ciro's, studio we had a three hour session. We worked with Murano glass rods and a propane torch and made glass beads. At the conclusion we strung them to make a bracelet or keychain. Marian offered ice water and cookies.

Marian is a great teacher and very pleasant company.

We were only there for the day off a cruise but would have definitely returned for more instruction if time permitted.

  3. We just returned from a very enjoyable cruise on FOS. We wanted to check-in for our return flight and print out boarding passes. We had not purchased VOOM. I asked at guest relations if there was some provision for just accessing the airline website to check-in. I was told that I would have to purchase one hour of internet service ($9.99 less a 15% discount for platinum status) in order to check-in and get our boarding passes.

The cruise line certainly takes every opportunity to maximize their revenues and I realize that they are a for-profit company. It is a shame that they cannot offer this service as a courtesy as several hotels that I have stayed at have. While this is only a small fee, it is unfortunate that some consideration could be not given after spending thousands of dollars.

Just my opinion. I was wondering what others think?

  4. My wife and I had dinner at Princesa Gastrobar on the Paeso de la Princesa two weeks ago.

The service was great and the food was excellent. Their menu (which you can google) indicates the origin of their dishes. Some are based on Puerto Rican recipes from the 1850s.

We started with the Molletes Criollos. My wife had the Garbanzada de Bacala and I had Shrimp and Lobster mofongo. We finished with an excellent coconut flan.

The restaurant was recommended to us by travelers on our Cruise Critic Roll Call that live in San Juan.

  5. We will be on the Freedom of the Seas which docks at Crown Bay. We have been to St. Thomas several times before.

We would like to go to Paradise Point near Havensight and then back to Charlotte Amalie for some shopping and lunch before returning to Crown Bay.

Can we take a taxi from Crown Bay directly to Havensight or do we have to take one from Crown Bay to Charlotte Amalie and then from Charlotte Amalie to Havensight?

  7. I have read many reviews on TA which have had varying opinions about visiting Hatos Cave. Many say that the cave is very hot and humid, not all that picturesque, and that photo opportunities are limited. Others have enjoyed the experience including being able to see the small bats in the cave.

We have visited Howe Caverns in New York, Luray Caverns in Virginia, Harrison's Cave in Barbados, and Wind Cave National Park in South Dakota.

Would our time in Curacao be better spent elsewhere?

  8. The Gallery Hotel was excellent. Wonderful service. They took us to see the different types of rooms before we checked in. The breakfast buffet was delicious with many choices. The hotel was around the corner from Passeig de Gracias and La Pedrera. It was not a long trip to the port. Enjoy your trip.

  9. We enjoyed a wonderful tour of St. Kitts with Thenford Grey. He is very personable and quite knowledgeable. We were picked up right at the pier. We rode in a comfortable air conditioned van. He will put a message on the back window for you if you let him know in advance. A family on our tour was celebrating a college graduation. Our tour included a visit to a farmer's market, Romney Manor (a botanical garden) and Caribelle Batik (a factory and store specializing in Batik clothing), a worthwhile tour of the Brimstone Fortress (incredible views including of Nevis), a stop at Timothy Hill (views of both the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea), and a stop at a beach resort (optional lunch). You can stay at the resort to use the beach or Thenford will bring you back to the ship (which we did).

We will be booking a tour with him again when we return to St. Kitts.

  10. Hi Pajazz28-
