  1. Hi-

We toured Cassis (beautiful fishing village) where we took a boat tour to see the Calanques (limestone cliffs) and then had lunch and toured Aix-en-Provence. We used Catherine of Tour Designer in Provence who was excellent. She is very knowledgable, easy to talk with, and was happy to customize our trip. She lives in Aix and took us to a superb local restaurant for lunch.

  2. We toured with Thenford Grey. Our tour was wonderful. He was very friendly and knowledgable. His commentary was excellent. I said that I liked to take pictures and he allowed me to sit up front with him. He made sure I did not miss any photo opportunities. He had us all interacting with each other, we enjoyed each other's company, and made new friends. He will draw something on the van's rear window if you make a request ahead of time. He personalized his van to commemorate the college of some of the tourists with us. We had an excellent introduction to St. Kitts. We will be using Mr. Grey's services again when we take a tour to Nevis in May.

  3. My wife and I will be flying into SJU the afternoon before our cruise.

The ship departs at 8:30 PM the following day.

We were thinking of taking a culinary tour of OSJ that goes from 10 AM to 1:30 PM on the day of the cruise. We would check out of the hotel and ask them to hold our bags, take the tour, return to hotel, and then take taxi to the pier.

This would seem to work. Anyone have any other suggestions? Any reason why we should forego the tour and just embark earlier?

  4. We have been to St. Kitts before and really enjoyed the Grand Tour with Mr. Grey. This time around we were thinking of seeing Nevis.

Has anyone had any recent experience with this tour?

    Is the sea ferry comfortable?

Any concerns with getting back to the ship on time?

The Freedom of the Seas is in port from 8:00 AM to 5 PM. The trip makes use of an 9:30 AM ferry to Nevis and a 2:30 PM back to Basseterre.

Is visiting Nevis worth the trip?

    Thank you.

  5. On our cruise we had limited time in port departing at 2pm. Fortunately we docked in Kotor and did not have to tender which would have taken more time.

We elected to take a tour to Budva and Sveti Stefan (private hotel but you get an excellent view from the road). Budva is a picturesque walled city. Our tour also provided a great view of Kotor and our ship from Mt. Trojica and then a tour of Kotor.

The tour of Perast also included Our Lady of the Rocks. It was a difficult decision but since our ship passed by Perast and Our Lady of the Rocks and St. George's Monastery both on entering and leaving Kotor we elected to see Budva and Sveti Stefan.

Whatever your decision I hope you have a wonderful trip.

  6. We did a ship sponsored excursion to Cinque Terre from Livorno last September. We left at 7:30 AM and the ship waited for us to arrive slightly late after 5 PM.

We were able to spend time in Manarola, Vernazza, and Monterosso al Mare where we had time for a nice lunch at Belvedere. We travelled by train between the villages rather than ferry because of the sea conditions.

The trip was definitely worthwhile. Given the distance from the port and the need for either ferry or train connections we felt that this was one time that we were better off with a ship sponsored excursion rather than arranging a tour ourselves.

We wish we had more time but were grateful we got to visit these beautiful villages. If the ship had docked in La Spezia we would have arranged our own tour.

    Enjoy your trip!

  7. We used Liset and Daniel from Kotor Private Tours. They quickly responded to our emails.

The tour was customized to fit our limited time in port. Daniel was an excellent, safe, driver and wonderful guide. He patiently stopped for many photo opportunities and took pictures of us.

We visited Budva, Sveti Stefan, the Mt. Trojica overlook, and Kotor (including the Wall of Shame, Serbian Orthodox Church, and St. Tryphon Cathedral) . He had excellent suggestions for a quick lunch and where to shop.

We saw a lot but the pace was never rushed. We received a nice thank you email after returning from our trip. We highly recommend Kotor Private Tours.

  8. We stayed in the Gallery Hotel before our cruise and were very pleased. The hotel is well located in the center city. The hotel was around the corner from the Passeig de Gracia and La Pedrera and near the Plaza Cataluna. Las Ramblas was a 15 minute walk. The staff was very accommodating, allowing us to see several room configurations before selecting one. The hotel breakfast was plentiful and delicious. Our room was clean, quiet, and the beds were comfortable.

    Enjoy your trip.

  9. We used Corfu Taxi Tours and were very happy with them. We had an excellent, friendly, and knowledgable driver. One of the highlights of our tour was stopping in Makrades for a lunch of delicious bread, fresh feta cheese, tomatoes, and olives. It was my wife's birthday and they arranged for a piece of Baklava with a candle at Paleokastritsa. We took tour 3. We had only limited time at Achillion but it is difficult to see everything in 5 hours.

The prices were as follows. Please note that we had traveled in September 2016 and the prices may be different. This information was all provided when we inquired about availability on a certain date without a commitment on our part at the time.

    Enjoy your trip.

  10. My wife and I enjoyed a wonderful tour by Catherine of Tour Designer in Provence. Our ship was originally scheduled to dock at La Seyne Sur Mer but put into Toulon. Catherine was aware of this and met us there.

We visited the beautiful fishing village of Cassis, toured the market there and took a boat ride to see the Calanques (impressive limestone cliffs). We saw the Cap Canaille and drove up Montagne St. Victoire for a beautiful view of Cassis.

We then traveled to Catherine's home town of Aix-En-Provence. Catherine gave us the option of purchasing some charcuterie for lunch in Cassis or eating in Aix. She took us to one of her favorite restaurants in Aix which was frequented by locals. Lunch was wonderful. We saw the sights of Aix including the Cathedral and the Cours Mirabeau.

Catherine was very knowledgable and pleasant. She patiently waited while I took many photographs and took several of my wife and I as well. She was happy to customize our tour. We felt like we had made a new friend by the end of the day.

I hope you enjoy your visit whatever you decide to do.

  11. I would most definitely second the recommendation for Ingrid from Kultours. We had an outstanding day which included Eze, Nice, St. Paul de Vence, and Monaco.

Ingrid made sure to get us to Eze right away so that we avoided the crowds. She provided free time in Nice for us to enjoy the open air market. She recommended an excellent restaurant for lunch in St. Paul.

Ingrid was very informative and very pleasant company. We felt like we had made a new friend by the end of the day. You can see my review on Trip Advisor for more detail.

  12. My wife and I just returned from a Mediterranean cruise and we thoroughly enjoyed Kotor and Montenegro. We took a wonderful tour with Kotor Private Tours (Daniel and Liset) which I highly recommend.

We chose to see the seaside village of Budva and the private resort of Sveti Stefan (you see it from a viewpoint). Wee then stopped at Trojic Hill for an excellent scenic overlook of Kotor and the surrounding mountains.

We then toured Kotor. Kotor is wonderful. It is small and easy to see. It is literally across the street from the dock (You should check if your ship is docking in Kotor or you will be tendering). Tendering is obviously less convenient and more time consuming.

The cathedral you mention is St. Tryphon which is understated but interesting. There is also a Serbian Orthodox church which is something different to see.

We had an excellent lunch which consisted of a large cutting board with different types of prosciutto, cheese, olives, lettuce, tomato, pesto, and pita bread. This was very reasonable at 16 Euro.

We did not attempt the walk up to the chapel or fort has we had walked the walls in Dubrovnik the previous day and wanted a break.

We chose the tour we did rather than seeing Perast and Our Lady of the Rocks as we were able to see them from our ship during sail in and sail away. Which areas you see it obviously a matter of personal preference, however.

As for getting up early for the sail in, I did this. It was peaceful and beautiful. The light was not great for photographs. We had the same view when leaving the port. There was a narration on deck and my pictures were much better.

Hope you enjoy your time in Montenegro as much as we did.

  13. My wife and I just returned from the Mediterranean Tapestry cruise on the HAL's Eurodam.

We used APTours for a tour of the Amalfi Drive from Salerno.

We were very satisfied and thoroughly enjoyed our tour.

Our driver, Alberto, was very knowledgeable, personable, and a safe driver.

We were picked up right at our ship in a clean Mercedes. We travelled past Naples with views of the bay and Mt. Vesuvius and Sorrento with several photo stops.

We then visited the Amalfi Drive. Our first stop was in Positano. In addition to panoramic photo stops, Alberto drove us down into town, parked, and we had free time to walk down to and enjoy the beach. We also saw the California Hotel where Under The Tuscan Sun was filmed.

We next drove to Amalfi. This was very crowded with tourists and Alberto suggested we see the cathedral and then move on to less crowded Ravello.

We drove to Ravello. Alberto made reservations for us at a restaurant with an incredible view overlooking the coast. We had a table at an open-air window and enjoyed a delicious lunch. After this we enjoyed free time in Ravello.

We returned to our ship with plenty of time.

The day was very enjoyable and relaxed.

Sarah who works for AP Tours quickly responded to my emails and questions when booking this tour. Reservations were well organized. We thought the tour was a good value and thoroughly enjoyed our time.

  14. My wife and I just returned from the Mediterranean Tapestry Cruise on the Eurodam. One of the highlights of our voyage was enjoying the performance of Lincoln Center Stage, four young women forming a string quartet (two violins, a cello and a viola) and a young man playing piano. They gave multiple performances almost every day.

The music is beautiful and very eclectic. In addition to classic pieces by Brahms we were treated to Rhapsody in Blue by Gershwin, Appalachian Spring by Copeland, Rodeo by Copeland, Creep by Radiohead, The Candide Overture by Bernstein and Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen.

They provide interesting insights about the music they perform.

The venue they play in is small and you should arrive at least 15-20 minutes early to assure seats.

We looked forward to attending their performances, which were approximately 45 minutes to one hour long, as often as we could.

  15. Our tour of Barcelona and Montserrat was excellent.

We were picked up at our hotel at the appropriate time. Our guide Marta was excellent. She was very personable and informative. By the end of the tour we felt that we had made a new friend. I appreciated her willingness to take pictures of us. The pace of the tour was good. It felt relaxed but still afforded us the time to see the sights in Barcelona. It was great to see Parc Guell and we enjoyed the photo stops at La Pedrera, Sagrada Famila, and Montjuic. Montserrat was beautiful and once again Marta's narrative was excellent. She even got us a close up view, from the side, of the Black Madonna without waiting on line. We wished we also had time to take the funicular but there was a line. The bus driver drove well and we felt safe.

It was also a pleasure to deal with Barcelona Day Tours.. Reservations were easy to make and the descriptions of the tour and instructions were clear. I appreciated that my questions were answered quickly. I felt the tour was a good value for the price.

Barcelona Day Tours really enhanced our visit to Barcelona. I highly recommend them. We look forward to returning.
