  1. Intercontinental has a much better location, more central in Downtown compared to the Marriott. Both will have good as views if you are looking for view rooms. Intercontinental is closer the port for port views. Publix is a 5-mins walk from the Marriott. For the intercontinental there are liquor/wine stores near by, say 5-10 mins walk or you can easily take the people mover to the publix in Brickell.
  2. Man, landing at noon on cruise day! Good luck! Anyway, given your position I honestly would just hop in the first thing you get. Unless you are a larger group just go with an Uber/Lyft from the airport.
  3. Ft. Lauderdale IS Miami. There is almost no difference in traffic. If you want to avoid "Miami traffic" then don't drive to Ft. Lauderdale. Take the train all the way from Orlando to Ft. Lauderdale and Miami.
  4. Eh. Sure in the morning and evening it can be a bit. But on a weekend or any other time its not too bad. FLL to Miami would be around 35-40 mins. Agreed 25mins only at 2am. First, Ft. Lauderdale is right next to Miami. The traffic there is not much better. They are separated by 20-miles and its all one region. Second, the traffic in Orlando is also miserable. Not as bad as Miami and Ft. Lauderdale area, but still really bad. I see no need to think this out so much. If you are already in Ft. Lauderdale you are one highway straight shot away from Port Miami and Downtown Miami. If you drive it on a weekend it is an easy drive. Just stay away from 7am - 10 am and 4:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m (weekdays) and it is not a bad drive at all.
  5. There is zero need for a port shuttle. If you are comfortable with using Uber than who cares about shuttles. Stay in a hotel in the Brickell area or Downtown Miami. Brickell is the better location. The day of the cruise you'll have a 10-15 min 2-3 mile drive in an Uber for no more than $15-$20 max. Popular lower cost hotel in Brickell is Hampton Inn Brickell. The options for hotels in Downtown and Brickell are endless. But make sure to check reviews and don't book on price alone. Again, forget about the shuttles. Any shuttles that cost per-person are usually more expensive. The port is right in the middle of the city. Pick your hotel based on where you want to spend time in Miami. Getting to the port and from/to the airport is easy.
  6. Do you need a limo? How many people are you? An Uber/Lyft will be around $50.00.
  7. What time are you getting in? There is not some big excursion here. FLL airport is 20-miles from Port Miami. On a Saturday mooring it is a 30-40 min drive. It really depends on what you prefer. If you are getting in earlier in the day going down to Miami makes sense. if getting in later at night, then you can pick some place close to FLL and then do the trip in the morning to Port Miami or get that out of the way and get to Miami first. In reality it does not make a huge difference just a difference between driving 30-45 mins in the morning or 30-45 mins to Miami and then a quick drive to the port. There are shuttles from specific FLL hotels to Port Miami. But an uber/rideshare is fine as well. Price difference should not be large. Shuttle might be a little cheaper, but will take longer. From the airport, Uber/Rideshare to Miami is the best option. Taxi will be very expensive.
  8. Nothing at the port. Plenty of shops in Downtown, Publix or CVS. Publix will have more choices of course. But you will need to do an actual stop. There is no way to walk from there to the port of vice-versa. It would not be cheap, but there are stores on the departure level of MIA pre-security. You can take the escalator up from baggage claim. Don't believe there is any wine for sale there though.
  9. Doubletree is on a nicer property, and has the opportunity, if you pay, for Bayfront views where you can see the port. Both locations in the general scheme of things are identical otherwise.
  10. Miami is a safe city. As with any City anywhere that is actually dangerous likely has very little things to do. As for things to do that all depends on what you like and want to see. The Everglades in the Summer does not sound like fun. If you want to do a National Park, do snorkeling in Biscayne National Park. If you don't rent a car you will be a little bit more limited as Miami does not have great public transport. Though the Metromover (which is free) is great to get around Downtown and Brickell. In that area you have the Modern Art Museum, lots of great restaurants and bars, and Brickell City Centre for an upscale mall. You may be able to find a walking tour in Downtown. There is also Bayside Marketplace for a place to walk around and catch a boat tour. Vizcaya is also near by. Wynwood is a nice spot for an evening for dinner, drinks and if you are interest in the art scene You'll need to take an Uber there and back. Most people use rideshare apps. Taxis used to be all over the place, but now they are mainly at the port and airport. The taxis of hailing a taxi, except for maybe in South Beach are gone. You can also use an hop on and off bus to get around so you can see other areas easily like Little Havana, Miami Beach, Coral Gables etc.. Ultimately, while traffic can make it seem like it is, Miami is a fairly small city in land size, so getting around is not too difficult. But again, using a rideshare app like Uber is the way to go if you don't rent a car. Renting a car will give you a lot of freedom to do as you please. Which is also nice given the weather can be great at 12:00 p.m. and then a tropical downpour with lighting at 12:45.
  11. Hampton Inn Brickell is a fantastic location. Unless you are one person a shuttle is usually more expensive than a tax/uber as the port is very close to Brickell.
  12. It is fairly easy. But IMO not worth the hassle. Depending on time of day you are talking about a 25-min $25-$35 uber ride or 45-60 mins to get on the train, off the train, over to the intermodal center in MIA etc.. To save $20.00 up to you.
  13. Moxies is a good bet. But make a reservation it can get busy. There is a shake shack close by. The options are endless. Talking about being in the middle and most dense part of Miami.
  14. No. We are used to having events at these locations and they are at night. Only thing is hotel prices will go up. And the NHL arena is far away from any port.
  15. If you want to stay in Miami then book a hotel in Miami. I don't agree that it makes sense to go to a Ft. Lauderdale hotel to then go to a Miami hotel on Saturday. So if you want to stay in the Miami area then go there. At night the ride will be around 30-40 mins max. Port Miami to FLL will also be around the same on a weekend, should not be an hour, but budget for an hour. If you want to stay in Lauderdale then stay in Lauderdale. But pick the hotel you want to stay in for the two nights. Picking an airport hotel for a 9:40 p.m. arrival to then check into another hotel makes no sense. I would not let flying into FLL make the decision for you. FLL is not far from Miami. 12:00 p.m. flight might be a little tight if there is a delay getting off. But if you do a good job getting off early you should be fine.
  16. Tons of places. Anything in particular? For something more casual I like Big City Tavern. While it is a chain, I also enjoy the Del Frisco Grille location there. Louie Bossi's for Italian. If you want Seafood, a well known spot, not on Las Ollas but not to far is 15th Street Fishery. If you are staying in the Las Ollas area you'll need to take a rideshare over there.
  17. It is usually better to just get the car from Miami airport.
  18. There are hundreds of hotels to pick from. You won't go wrong with Hampton Inn Brickell though.
  19. Any Heat games would be at night, and they would need to make the Finals for that timeline. A lot has to go right for the Heat for that to happen. I hope it becomes a worry. But for a cruise it won't be an issue as Finals games are only at night.
  20. When are you going? Brightline is starting soon. They showe $79 tickets, which is not bad. They have a station close to FLL you get dropped off at Orlando Airport and you can take a shuttlle/taxi/rideshare from there. Your other options are rent a car. Fly from FLL Silver Airways, Southwest, and Spirit all have flights. From MIA (30min drive) American and Delta fly to MCO. Take a bus: There are bus services from around South Florida to Orlando. A car service will be ridiculously expensive.
  21. There are not really beaches in Key West. From my experience you have three types of hotels. The up scale but small resort, mid-scale larger resort that is usually not in the most walkable central area of the island, though Key West is very small. Or a small bed and breakfast type place with a small pool right in the middle of Key West. Last time I was there we stayed at the 24 North Hotel. It was good, had a shuttle to downtown, and nice pool. We drove down, so having a car made some things easy as rideshare was very expensive.
  22. I would just stick with the airport. The departure level has a decent amount of shops and places to eat to kill time. This is pre-security so you can grab you bags and then go up a level. If you don't have bags, I would still just stick with the airport, but if you arrive in the North or South Terminal don't exit the terminal and stick with the restaurants/shops post-security.
  23. Not much time between getting your bags and ride to a 3:30 check in. Head straight to the port. No need for a shuttle, taxi will be around $30 plus tip 20-30 min drive. You can also use rideshare too, usually Uber/Lyft is a little cheaper.
