  1. Any time a minor accuses an adult of ANYTHING, you want to know what the details are. That minor could repeat the allegation to a family member or another adult, who could overreact. So you want to know what you are supposed to have said. Even if it never happened. Even if you were never in the spa.

    It shouldn't take too much legwork to figure out if security kept a file on you, and request disclosure if they did. This may be nothing - but I'd want to know.

  2. I can't give you legal advice, except to say that this could come back to haunt you even years later, and you should find out whether or not the cruiseline documented the alleged incident. Ergo, you need a lawyer for your own wellbeing and peace of mind.

    Also, I would NOT request compensation of any kind right now, for fear they could turn this into something major. I am dead serious.

  3. This has produced some creative and hysterical replies, but I'm still going with:

    1. I assume that corporate told them to refer to themselves by that name;

    2. Based on that assumption, the individual's own first name is preferable;

    3. I always perceive discriminatory or demeaning conduct from the perspective of the marginalized group.

  4. Hmm. Do you mean DISboards? I know those folks do offen believe the staff wants to be their friends (because that is absolutely the product and image Disney sells), but I think you're exaggerating a wee bit. And IIRC, there were usually plenty of people willing to point out that cash was the better gift. They're not all "idiots".

    (For what it's worth, I've seen those same threads here on CC, and some percentage of CC members do also believe the staff is their friends and wants those t-shirts and candy. It's not just DCL.)

    That attitude is on every forum here. Every single one. It's a bug that is tremendously difficult to squash.

  5. read on Disney boards/not here, people talking about how thankful the staff is for their family pictures, and bags of candy left in place of cash tips. They also brag about bringing their "old" clothes and donating them to the adoring staff members who fall over themselves thanking the rich American cruisers for their generosity of used clothes. Idiots..

    Every time I think we as "humans" can't get any more despicable, we do. I could reference a few recent news items as proof, but I'll be good [emoji56]

  6. People need to understand that booking a cruise does not guarantee them access or others limited access to the spaces on their ships.

    Er, no, they don't. Carnival chose one category of cruisers (families) over all the other categories of cruisers. There are already dozens of areas on cruise ships where children can circulate freely. Carnival is telling its other cruisers (remember, the ones who actually spend money on its ships) that their opinion is not welcome. In fact, Carnival is telling them that THEY are not welcome.

    I won't vote, as I'm not a consumer of this particular brand, so it wouldn't be fair to skew the results. But I would urge Carnival cruisers to object very strenuously to being told "children come first, so take a hike".

  7. I'm not even a Carnival cruiser, but I just had to chime in. This is a reflection of what is happening in society as a whole. You can't go to a nice restaurant on land without having to hear screaming children who have been dragged out to a venue which is not age-appropriate at a time which is or should be past their bedtime. You invite friends over for drinks, they bring their children - uninvited and unannounced. I am no child hater. I have two nieces who are the light of my life. But I resent the fact that there are no boundaries anymore, and no privileges for children to EARN. Carnival, by implementing this change, you are demonstrating that you are a microcosm of a society gone bat**** crazy. Shame on you. Have some respect for the people who actually pay the bills.

  8. I find this thread appalling. I have been on more than a dozen cruises, most of them with Celebrity and Holland America. HAL holds its drills outside. I used to consider this an "inconvenience". Not anymore. Not since the Costa Concordia. Now I treat the drill as an exciting opportunity to begin my cruise in earnest. Without the drill, there would be no cruise.

  9. We haven't met (on Cruise Critic or in person), but I love you already, and I hope you're on my next cruise, whenever that might be! I am so very sorry that you have lost a piece of your heart and soul (my aunts were twins; one died too young, and the other will never be the same).

  10. They should stop you from taking a 5yr old on a HAL shore excursion when the minimum age is 10.. If I was on your excusrion & could not bring my child because of his age, why should you be permitted to do so?:(

    IMO Hank is right.. There is a reason for age restrictions.. It could very well be an insurance matter.. Suggest you get a baby sitter for your child or don't go on HAL excursions which have a minimum age of 10..

    Cue poster's excuses - but, but, but my child is better behaved than most 10 year olds! Not when you're not looking...and 5 year olds get bored FAST. Just because Mom and Dad want to do something does not mean it is age appropriate for Junior.
