  1. We did the Rhine Getaway BAS to AMS the first week of November and received the same email you received. We had a few days of rain during our pre cruise stay in Lucerne but it wasn't enough to help the Middle Rhine. As mentioned by CILCIANRQTS we did the ship swap during the Heidelberg excursion. Viking handled it well - the major hassle was having to unpack and repack and it made for a long day for some. Viking monitors the water level day by day but we were told it would take about 2 months of steady rain to get the river back to normal. I'm sure you'll have a good time - our boat was packed - it didn't look like anyone cancelled due to the river issue.
  2. Thanks for the update - you were lucky to make it all the way through - we just finished the Rhine cruise with Viking the first wee of November and weren't so lucky - we had a ship swap to around Cologne due to the water levels in the middle Rhine. We docked next to the River Princess in Amsterdam - it looked like a beautiful ship. Glad you had a good time - the fire must have been scary.
  3. Hi - I wanted to respond to the question about recent trips on the Rhine - we were on a Viking cruise from Basel to Amsterdam during the first week of Nov and ran into a Avalon ships and groups in Cologne and Strasbourg. The Rhine as you know is very low - we were told while onboard that it would take 2 months of steady rain to return the river to normal levels - the week that we were on the Danube was in slightly better shape but that has changed since then as well. In Viking's case they had enough boats to do ship swaps mid week - we did a ship swap around Cologne. The middle Rhine where the castles are is the section that is still too low for the river ships to navigate. We had a good trip - although I enjoyed our Avalon cruise on the Danube better!
