Its usually done before that...2 or so weeks before boarding.
Mine didn’t update until embarkation day on my cruise last week. So perhaps it can vary?

They have all types of other entertainment and special interest groups that they cater to and will not cut but have decided to target the dedicated Catholics on their cruises.
I understand being upset but don’t be dramatic. Catholics are NOT being “targeted”. You realize most major religions outside of Christianity have ZERO representation or support on cruises right? Again it’s valid to be upset with change. It’s not valid to act like somehow Catholics are being discriminated against. Do you feel all cruise lines without priests have “targeted” devout Catholics? 🙄- 1

Wow, thats kinda harsh, don’t forget they had to move because of a problem with their cabin, obviously involving packing/re packing etc. I wouldn’t just call this a “free upgrade” as if it was their choice!
I don’t find it harsh at all. They are punishing service staff that had nothing to do with it. I don’t care the reason. Complain to corporate, write a letter, but don’t cut tips from staff that work their butts off. Now THAT is harsh to do. No matter the reason it’s still a free upgrade. Their only concern seems to be not getting the double points which they weren’t entitled to. Again, they took it out on the wrong people. I fully stand by my statements.

Was confused by this too. The navigator shows all 7 nights as casual, but my final docs state that we have 2 formal nights. I expect them to be the 2nd and 6th, as those are both days we are not in a port (Inside Passage on the 2nd and Glacier or Hubbard) on the 6th. So we will see.
Now the real question will be, are they serving anything in the Dining Room that makes it worth it to spend the 2 hours it generally takes for dinner. Over the years we have gravitated to the Lido, as we just don't want to sit through a 90-120 minute dinner.
Navigator said that for my cruise as well until the first day of the cruise so I wouldn’t be bothered by that. All 7 day Alaskan cruises have the same menu and schedule so it will be the 2nd day and 6th day. -

No, I'm not sure and it may well have been a vista suite. Again, in all honesty, it did not strike us as being exceptionally spacious. The only difference I remember (other than getting switched from our preferred port side to starboard) is that when I got up in the night for bladder relief running lights magically appeared to guide my steps to the bathroom. With the move the amount of the pp daily gratuity was bumped up to suite level, and the upgrade didn't bowl DW & me over. I would have gladly paid the upcharge, however, if we were accruing the double mariner points applicable to suites, to help propel us on our way to 4 stars.
So again, penalizing staff for something they had zero control over as you got a free upgrade all because you didn’t get double points. Extremely wrong in my opinion. I feel bad for the staff that had to care for you and your room. I hope you haven’t penalized staff since then.

One exception: Signature suites do count for double points per cruise day, like the Neptune and Pinnacle suites, toward Mariner Society status.
A few years back, on the Koningsdam IIRC, we had a persistent problem with water infiltrating our verandah cabin. In the end we were moved to a signature suite, and started racking up the higher per-day suite rate for crew appreciation. I asked Guest Services and was told that we were not accruing the double Mariners points. I had them roll the crew appreciation rate back to the lower one for our original verandah cabin.
As terrydtx said, the supposedly upscale aspects of the signature suite were not especially noteworthy. If the new cabin was larger than our original one, the difference didn't register with us.
so you decided to penalize staff because you weren’t getting double points for an upgrade you didn’t have to pay for? There is definitely a noticeable size difference between a standard verandah and a SS. Seems wrong, petty and greedy to penalize them. Especially when getting a free upgrade. It wasn’t there fault for the water or for the points not doubling.- 2

Currently on the Eurodam and ours was night 2 and night 6 as others have mentioned.

Hope you had a good day in Juneau!

Thanks! Just finished filling up at the salmon bake after gold panning. I’m rich now 😂
There has been some light rain but not bad. It is cold though! -
Looking at the Juneau webcam currently makes the weather look worse than it is

All docked, people on the Eurodam are getting off the ship. No rain, just cloudy with some high fog. Absolutely beautiful and much clearer than I had expected when looking at the forecast last week.
Saw whales, otters and dolphins on the way!

Can you see me waving? 😂

Interesting. Says we are 3 miles away, still no rain for us. Curious to see once we are docked

Weather is looking pretty ugly in Juneau, not a good day to be doing tours.
I actually don’t think so. I’m not quite in Juneau yet (on the Eurodam) just 4 miles away but thus far no rain and the forecast is saying 0.01” just foggy and cloudy. I expect light showers on and off likely. 🤷🏼♀️ I will enjoy every moment either way.

Thank you!!! If anyone has a daily program from a 7 day Alaska on Eurodam please share.
It would be too many screenshots to send you what’s in the app but I’m boarding the Eurodam Saturday so I’ll take photos and post them when I get back!

No possibility at all. As discussed here frequently, GTY assignments can arrive as late as at the pier. On our last cruise...March 30th...our assignment came 2 days out. No one has ever mentioned arriving to be denied boarding. It won't happen.
Thank you so much! That makes me feel better 😊

I have a family member who has a guaranteed room. We depart in two days and he still doesn’t have a room assigned. Is there any chance he could arrive for departure and be told there is no room available? He called ship inventory and they said they couldn’t help and sometimes the room is assigned at the port on arrival. Would love to hear other thoughts and experiences!

Catholics are bound under pain of Mortal sin to assist at Mass on Sundays and Holy Days of obligation. The Catholic religion is the hardest religion to live in but th\e easist to die in. We all die.
Isn’t that the truth! You are exempt if no priest is available so this shouldn’t be that much of a concern. I fully agree though. I was raised in the Catholic Church. However I left once I became an adult. It didn’t align with my morals and beliefs. So I do sympathize but feel people are kidding themselves if they think there is any way HAL would lose enough passengers from this decision to undo it. I feel like they are significantly overestimating the number of devout Catholic passengers that cruise with HAL.
-
I truly think this will have zero impact on their ability to fill ships. I feels for the Catholics upset about this. But keep in mind there is a significant amount of faiths that have ZERO representation or support. Those that no longer want to be with HAL, that's ok but my understanding is that most other cruise lines don't offer it as well. So essentially it's, find a way to accept that mass won't be offered or just not cruise anymore.
The ships get sold out and people wait and hope for openings. Any Catholics who know longer go will just have those rooms filled with others. So I wouldn't hold my breathe on these emails or any kind of sales impact changing their mind here. If they do, fantastic and more power to you, but I won't expect it.- 3

I'm hoping this is true on our upcoming cruise. I didn't want to make HIA reservations before I see what's on the menus in the MDR.
it can be glitchy but you should be able to see your menus on the navigator app if your ship is on the same itinerary now. Whatever menu in the app is the same menu that is currently on that ship. Sometimes when you click on it the menu won’t appear. That’s a technically glitch and you may be able to try again then or later and have success.- 1

It should be Wednesday. That is the “Dutch Theme” night so I would imagine it correlates with that.

I don’t need to confirm that. It doesn’t matter. It’s still punishing the staff, the wrong people and us messed up and selfish. Take it out on the people who caused the issue. An “increased hotel charge” isn’t the same at all. It would be more like not tipping servers or bartenders at the hotel because the hotel manager moved you to a room you dislike.
you don’t have to agree with me, I don’t expect everyone to. But you are trying to justify what is blatantly punishing staff not involved. Even if it’s in the tip pool it still impacts the staff and puts less in their pocket despite doing nothing wrong.
