    Upscale Jazz Cruises?

I just found your thread and wanted to let you know we went on our 1st SJC this past February. I can't say enough good things about it. More activities each day than you can get to - meaning music choices. While the ship is larger then I think you were hoping for everything worked out very well. Brian Culbertson would hang out in the buffet area and was very approachable. We saw Rich Braun with his wife and so on ... IMO you owe it to yourself to do this cruise just once if you love smooth jazz music. I would call the travel agent who charters the entire ship because they are going to release the 2020 smooth jazz musicians sometime this month.

    Door Decorating

What I do for door decorating is pretty simply yet classy - it adds a little spirit and fun to the cruise. I know this isn't everyone cups of tea.

    Door Decorating

Thanks Kitty! On one past cruise I used poster puddy and decorated our cabin door with candy since it was during Valentine's Day. I would replenish every day!

    Door Decorating

Does Celebrity {Summit} allow door decorations? I know some cruise lines require flame retardant materials. I'm not sailing until Feb. 2018 but wanted to start thinking of what to do.

    Motion on the Journey

We just got back from a voyage on the Quest. Had a rough sea day going out and really felt the rock and rolling since our cabin was as far forward as you could go! If you pick a cabin that is on one of the lower decks - dead center - I feel you will be fine. Sea sick pills are available for the asking and work very well. Others who were booked in the afts cabins complained about the vibration which you could feel in the dining room on deck 5! I would rather have the pitch of the ship on the forward cabins then the vibrations. Overall we liked the smaller size ship, the country club casual, two speciality restaurants and the easy of getting from one end to the other. The variety of nightly shows was okay, but not what you are use to on a larger ship. Hope this helps! Katie

    Pier Civitavecchia Italy

Correction to previous post ... cost from Rome to dock is Euro 130 (not as previous stated) ... cost from airport to Rome city center is Euro 50. Sorry for the confusion. Also, you are dropped off at the pier - no shuttle bus - you are right there! Katie

    Pier Civitavecchia Italy

We just got back home yesterday. We scheduled a private driver to take us from Rome to the docks (we sailed on the Quest) - what we were told was that a taxi would cost Euro 40 and the private driver we used cost us Euro 50 - for the 10 extra E's - it was worth it to go by car. We used romeinlimo for airport pick up - take us to the ship - pick us up from the ship - take us back to Rome - then to the airport the next day. They are excellent - Jany who answers all e-mails is very well orgazined - the drivers are prompt - cars are new - drivers are in suits and very professional. Once you get to the docks - check in is record time - leaving the ship in very well and the drivers wait right outside and are ready for you once you've claimed your baggage which is also well organized. Let me know if you have other questions ... I'll check back in ... Hope this helps. Katie

    Advice on flight to Rome?

A few tips I picked up from a Conde Nast Traveler ... How to get the lowest fare ... itasoftware dot com provides the most comprehensive and least biased list of fare and route options. Find out which airline offers the best itinerary for the lowest price, then go to the carrier's website to book. itasoftware does not list flights on foreign low cost carriers, however, so to find out which fly where, use whichbudget dot com or wegolo dot com. (personal experience on itasoftware - I was looking to book a flight from Philly to Rome - itasoftware quoted a great price so I called the a/l directly and even with the routing codes they provided, the a/l couldn't match that price, so called a local travel agent and she matched it exactly - and I saved a bunch of $'s). On international flights ... find out if it's a code share. When a US airline and its foreign partner both sell seats on the same flight (making it a code share), one carrier's fares could be substantially lower, so check prices on both. For example, the same flight from New York to say Hong Kong could cost hundreds of dollars less throught Cat Pac a/l then AM a/l. Cheap flights to Europe ... look into flying via Dublin instead of London, for example. Misc. ... I found a great website that gives you a cheat sheet on currency conversion go to www oanda dot com Hope all this helps and can save you a few dollars! Katie

    Self-drive Barge Cruise Question

Don't think we'd take our little guy on long travel trips unless it's by car and within the US! We'll just beg one of our Westie friends to baby sit for us while on other types of travel. Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy Holiday Season! It's almost time to open all the presents under my tree ... maybe one will be the barge cruise!!!! Katie

    Self-drive Barge Cruise Question

Thanks Hambagahle for your input. Would have never thought about renting a car in another country since I've not been to Europe. Actually our cruise on the Quest in September will be my first trip over. I've been wanting to go to Italy for as long as I can remember and with the exchange rate, the cruise was the right way to go. The barge cruise will depend on my friends and when they put it together. I've been sending them the input from this thread, so we all are learning about this type of vacation adventure which seems so much fun! We've also shared different website on barge that we've found so far. The good thing is that no one has given us reason to think twice about self-barging!!! I know we will love the Westie! We have 3 sets of friends that all have Westies and they are the ones that made us fall in love with the breed. I'm researching breeders in hopes to get on the list for late next year. Our plan is to get one, wait a year and then get the second one as they say that way the first one bonds to you and not the other pup ... names will be Derby and Bourbon (since my husband is from KY)! :) Happy Holidays to all!:) Katie

    Self-drive Barge Cruise Question

OK, I have to be the one to ask - what type of dog do you have:confused: ? We are pet-less after putting our 21 year and 4 month old cat to sleep a few weeks ago. We decided on a West Highland White Terrier after our trip in September ... Katie
