  1. Banzaii - We are on the Pacific Explorer (P&O). Hoping it stops at the 'in town' terminal. MicCanberra - I have located the boulangerie, I think, its called Les Petits Choux. There is Noumea Duty Free just across the road. Thanks for your recommendation.
  2. Thanks Lyndara for the heads up. Just checked good old trusty Google maps and you are correct. This should be relatively easy for us - taxi to Anse Vata and then walk back to the terminal via Lemon Bay... Yeah! Looks like this is a plan. Thanks Heaps
  3. Ok, I have now researched the Public Bus system!!!! Shall we dare! Bus #s 10 and 11 go to Anse Vata Beach. Maybe a taxi from the cruise terminal and then a walk and 'fingers crossed' another taxi, talk to the Tourism Office/helpful shop, to get a taxi or find the public bus stop. This is on a Saturday afternoon so hoping that with a ship in town there will be options. Still looking at Lyvai Hop On/Off Bus which is very reasonably priced but just worried about not getting on a bus to return because it is full. French!!! Well that was in school and a long time ago. Thanks everyone for all your suggestions.
  4. Thanks for your suggestion - I have had a look at Google Maps and thought that it would be nice to take a taxi to Lemon Bay and then walk (via the Aquarium all along Anse Vata Beach (about 30 minutes). There is a Tourism Information Centre at Anse Vata Beach, about in the middle, do you think they could organize a taxi for us to return to the ship?
  5. Thanks guys, I would just like to take a taxi to Lemon Bay. I have read that the Hop On/Off bus can be very full with returning cruisers at the end of the day, and I am a bit of panic merchant unfortunately. Can we arrange with the same taxi to collect us after say 2 hours? Do a deal? Or will there be taxis at Lemon Bay waiting to take cruisers back to the ship? Because it is the afternoon, I am a bit nervous about missing the boat.
  6. Arriving in Noumea in July and have booked a snorkeling trip in the morning and estimate we should be back on the ship to 'clean up' by 11.30am. So we will have the afternoon free to do a bit in the city from say 12.30pm to 4.30pm. Sail away is 5.30pm. What would you suggest? We were considering going to Lemon Bay but it looks like this is a taxi ride away. Any idea about the cost and availability of taxis when we want to return to the ship? Or should we just walk around the main town - looks like the market will be closed. All suggestions most welcome. Thanks,
  7. The Chef's Table costs $119 per person including matching wines. Although goodjobrob says to go to Angelo's restaurant to book on arrival, the P&O website says to go to The Waterfront restaurant. We are going to go to both to make sure that we are booked! This is what it says on the website: The Chef’s Table is a VIP dining experience hosted by the Executive Chef and includes a welcome reception with a glass of sparkling wine and canapés, a seven course degustation menu with matching wines, a tour of the ships galley, and professional photograph of the evening. Not sure about High Tea/Afternoon Tea.
  8. Thanks for your insights LincolnLegend. Already decided on Jinek Bay, Mare beach transfer so that is great confirmation.
  9. Found it - thanks. Looks like a great deal so will book.
  10. We are going to Noumea, Lifou, Mare and Isle of Pines. Currently we are looking at: Noumea: Speed boat to an ocean reef - $80 per person. Another option is Duck Island also the same price. Decided that the day trip to Amedee Island is a bit too expensive. The other two excursions give us 1/2 a day to wander around Noumea. Lifou: Jinek Bay Marine Reserve - half day Mare: Yejele Beach - On your own Isle of Pines: Both, Moro Island Lagoon Exploration ($130 per person/2 hours) and Turtle Bay ($130 per person/2 hours) seem just expensive for the length of time in the water. So, your comments/suggestions would be most helpful, especially for Isle of Pines. Thanks again in advance.
  11. Well I am back to report on the outcome of trying to get the current promotion applied to my existing Princess Cruise. As previously reported there was an approximate $1,000 in price difference - taking into account our AUD$285 OBC resulted in a price difference of - $821. Spoke to my TA and to give her credit, she did try to get us the reduction in price. However, she purchases through a cruise wholesaler!!!!! In the end, we are now: 1. in the came cabin 2. received a reduced price 3. taking into account our original OBC - now reduced to AUD$185 We have a total saving....... wait for it...... of $50 Apparently Princess only release a limited number of rooms in each category for this sale, when they go, the price increases. There were no balcony rooms available in our category for the much lower price advertised. Really not worth the effort but I did thank my TA for trying.
  12. Just sent our TA an email. Let's see what her response is. Personally, I am not expecting a positive response because I have to 'work her'. Still looking for a proactive TA anywhere in Australia. I am really good at organizing land content holidays and save heaps of $s. But still a novice with cruises unfortunately when it comes to deals.
  13. Thanks Aus Traveller for clarifying the gratuities issue. With the fare now $1,000 cheaper for the two of us, having gratuities included helps heal the hurt. Wish we could book last minute, but we still work and Hubby is a school teacher so we always pay lots more for any holiday, land content or cruise.
  14. We would like to drop off our checked in bags at about 9.30am on the day of embarkation for our New Caledonia cruise and visit the MOCA in Sydney which opens at 10am. We are on the Pacific Explorer in July. Then return to do a proper check-in. Is this possible? Many thanks in advance for your responses.
  15. I have just opened up my 'passenger copy' that was issued by our Travel Agent (our local agent who works from her own retail shop - not online). On the top it clearly shows 2 x customers (myself and my husband) with the cruise fair/taxes/total due. Under this it states OBC A$285. On the bottom of the same document (1 page) there is a section headed Cruise Bonus Offer - which states 1. Sale - Princess Perfect Moments Sale - up to US$200 OBC 2. Gratuities are not included in the Cruise Fare Very confusing after reading all the above comments. However, I have just noticed that this cruise is now on sale so could have saved $1,000 if we booked now for the same balcony cabin under the Balcony Bonanza Sale - very sad, so not really ahead as such as we can't rebook here in Australia. Would loose the deposit which is nearly $1,000 anyway. Let's see what happens when we board in January 2020.
  16. We are Australian, cruise was booked in Australia. So OBC quoted at US$200 converted to AUD$285. But.... Gratuities not included.
  17. I was reading this thread and was interested to see exactly what we received for our recent booking for a Sea Princess cruise for January 2020 to Papua New Guinea. Interestingly, confirmation from ourTA states that we receive up to US$200OBC on the Princess Perfect Moments Sale. This has been converted to A$285! As this is an Australian (Brisbane) return cruise, the currency on board will be Auzzie$s. Also interesting to note that my confirmation says 'Gratuities not included'. Since there are no gratuities required for Australian return cruises with Princess, wonder what will happen when we board. Looking forward to your comments.
  18. P&O doing something strange. Did as directed in your post, and only found 10 results - none of which are the 'Ultimate Romance Package". There is a Premium Romance Package which includes Moet, chocolate strawberries on arrival, canapés on cocktail night and romantic breakfast in bed for $99. Maybe P&O are assessing the value of offering this package for this cruise or may be we are not entitled as this is our first cruise with P&O. Will look again closer to sail day. Thanks for taking the trouble to help.
  19. I did check P&O website under Cruise Control and could only find a Special Occasions & Birthday Package which includes 'sparkling wine' on arrival - no mention of Moet!. Also a birthday cake , birthday card and canapés on cocktail night. On the Pacific Explorer there is a $120 credit for dining at either Shell and Bones or Gradi 400. There is a section that says 'More products coming to the shop soon' so I will check closer to the sail date.
  20. Thanks Kate59 for your tips. Will take lots of Auzzie small notes. We are boarding in Brisbane so will visit a BWS or similar to buy a few bottles of wine. Not big drinkers, but a glass on the balcony will be great. We are keen snorkelers so if you have any tips on the best excursions please let me know. We also tend to use the ship's excursions, I know they are more expensive, but we really are risk adverse! PS: Just read that that there was a major earthquake on the eastern side
  21. Good to know, however for our first Princess Cruise we are going to Papua New Guinea, pretty sure buying bottles of wine at ports will be impossible. This is also the same policy with Cunard, but we don't pay corkage if we drink the wine in our room. Seems like Princess' policy is to pay corkage regardless of where you drink the wine. Is this correct? We will carry a few extra when we embark in Brisbane and pay the corkage which is all OK by us. Cheers
  22. Wow! Great information. I would have never have thought about a Romance Package Even at our age it sounds great and good value too depending on the dinner credit. Can't check into Cruise Control as P&O are currently having issues. So, would you pick Gradi or Shell & Bones? I have heard about Love Riot and was contemplating just doing the show only, but will now think about adding the dinner component. As we are going during the school holidays (hubby is a school teacher) the Bonded Bar sounds like a good space to relax. Thanks also for the heads up for the European power adaptor - we do have one. Afternoon tea.... well that does look very tempting. Depending on how much snorkeling we do, hope we can fit one in during the trip. Maybe we should start our own topic about what to do on the Explorer, really cannot find much by searching, especially things to do on this cruise when we really love snorkeling - really an old love that we have decided to reignite before we get just too old. You are just a wealth of information. Thanks heaps
