  2. I sail on the Spectrum of the Seas out of Shanghai on Feb 13th and haven't gotten any updates or emails about anything yet. I will let you know if I get anything before I go. I doubt anything will be affected. Shanghai isn't quarantined and I bet they will just screen for any sick people before you are allowed to board. And I also heard if you have been in in the Hubei area (like Wuhan) areas in the last 30 days, you will also not be allowed to board.
  3. Can you pre-apply for the other TWOV's as well besides the 144 hr?
  4. Just to make sure - I would be eligible for a B2B transit visa for my Best of Japan round trip Shanghai cruise? A.) USA B.) Shanghai (Board Ship) C.) Japan ------- A.) Japan B.) Shanghai (Disembark Ship) C.) USA (Note: Both times in Shanghai will be less than 24 hrs.)
  5. It would not have crossed my mind when booking either- especially if I had a visa or planned to get one. Or just using the transit Visa because up until then, I dont think there has been a incident like that before? Glad you were able to make your whole cruise. Everyone I spoke to said we shouldnt have an issue obtaining a transit visa as its pretty routine and for these reasons: A.) We are not arriving during a Chinese Holiday (it will be 3 weeks after the Chinese New Year) B.) We will be arriving in Shanghai - I've read that Shanghai is a little more tourist friendly. C.) We are taking a cruise where there will be hardly any Westerners (unlike yours) and most of the passangers will be Chinese - so there shouldn't be an insane amount of people applying for a transit visa for the cruise at the airport. But nothing is guaranteed, even with a visa - so worst case scenario - we use the money we saved in getting a tourist visa and purchase a flight to Kobe (our first stop, and I've looked at flights just incase we have to book them). We would miss the first sea day, but at least we wont miss the whole thing or any stops. One last question (I promise) - did it seem like they were targeting people just on your ship, or were there others who were also denied who were transiting in another way? (like other flights, different ship, train etc).
  6. The people who were denied at the airport and then joined the ship later, did any of them they say they had tourist visas that you spoke to?
  7. Thank you for sharing your story! I will be flying into Shanghai from San Francisco to get on the Spectrum of the Seas on a 7 night cruise. I am hoping that since its a different airport, and that I am not coming in around a Chinese holiday, and that I am not coming in with a lot of foreigners going on the same cruise (since it will be primarily Chinese passengers)... I might have better luck than those people - even with a Visa lol. Traveling to these countries is always a risk - nothing is guaranteed, even if you are 150% prepared or you think you are. I am just going to try to make the most of it and take it as it comes. I am sure that was the talk of the cruise when you were on it, especially with all those cabins empty!
  8. Wow that seems harsh - do you have a link to that story? I would like to see if they were going to board a cruise or what the backstory was and what citizenship(s) they had. That is very unfortunate. 😞
  9. Will do! Since the cruise departs at 4:30pm on the 13th, and my flight doesn't get in until 9pm the night before on the 12th, it will for sure be under 24 hrs - plus even if they delay debarkation, I will have the travel cruise documents anyway that says we depart to Japan at 4:30. We may get the Visa's anyways for peace of mind since we have everything prepared (just have to send it off in the mail) but its nice to know we dont *have* to get one. But I will for sure get back to you in February and let you know if the 24 hr transit pass worked so maybe you can do this cruise too!
  10. 1. My flight gets in later in the evening (Around 9pm), no where near 4:30pm. If my plane gets in almost 5 hrs sooner than planned, that would be a super fast jet! 😛 2. My cruise documents that I have to provide says the cruise will depart from Shanghai at 4:30. *If* the cruise departure get delayed, I will already have gotten the pass anyways with my documents that say the cruise leaves to Japan at 4:30. We still might get the Visa, however it is nice to know that I don't *need* one. But its nice to have peace of mind - We will just have to pay about $700-$800 extra for the three of us though - which sucks.
  11. I am a US citizen and I am doing this cruise in February. I was debating on getting a visa (I have all the documents ready to get one) - however many China sites tell me a 24 hour transit pass will work for my itinerary (I am arriving less than 24 hours before the ship departs and staying 1 night pre-cruise, then heading to the airport back to the states after the cruise is over). Here is the response I got from China Travel Guide: You are perfectly eligible for visa free transit in Shanghai twice and you don't need any kind of visa. You will take a cruise "Best Of Japan Cruise" provided by Royal Caribbean International. This itinerary is really ideally constructed to allow you visa free transit during both of your stops in Shanghai. You will print out your flight and cruise tickets and also your accommodation booking confirmation for your overnight in Shanghai. You will also bring those printouts with you. Also, you will declare at check-in in San Francisco that you will travel to Japan via Shanghai using 24 hour visa free transit. After a short check of your tickets, you will be allowed to board the plane.Upon your landing in Shanghai, you will approach 24 hour visa free transit counter where you will apply for a temporary entry permit that will be granted to you and you will be allowed to exit the airport.During both of your stops in Shanghai, you will be eligible for 24 hour visa free transit because in both of your cases your entire transit time will be less than 24 hours. The reason is simple, your cruise departs at 16:30 (4:30pm) and you will arrive by plane, whether you are flying China Eastern or United, in the later afternoon hours after 16:30 (4:30pm) the day before. Does that sound correct?

  13. I am currently in the process of getting a Chine Tourist Via, however I came across this 15-Day Visa-Exemption Policy for Foreign Tour Groups Entering Shanghai by Cruise : https://shanghai.nia.gov.cn/listPageEn.aspx?lx=40&id=4735 Since I am sailing in and out of Shanghai, will I be eligible for this 15-Day Visa-Exemption?
  14. Thought so, I was thinking of getting a visa anyways for peace of mind. Thanks for confirming!
  15. Hello all - I am a US citizen and will be flying from San Francisco and arriving in Shanghai on February 12th, 2020 the day before my 7 day cruise to Japan on RCCL Spectrum of the Seas. (Will be staying in a hotel for 1 night). Here is my cruise itinerary: Day 1 - Shanghai Day 2 - Cruising Day 3 - Kobe Day 4 - Kobe /Osaka Day 5 - Tokyo (Yokohama) Day 6 - Cruising Day 7 - Cruising Day 8 - Shanghai After we disembark the ship at the end of the cruise, we will be going straight from the port to the airport and flying back to the states. Will I need purchase a visa or will a 144 hour visa free transit work with my trip? Many thanks 🙂
  16. LOL we basically said the same thing and I never saw your post until now
  17. 1. Their Comedy shows 2. The "Fun ship vibe" - Just the overall fun atmosphere on Carnival is just a blast in general. I have been on other lines (like Royal) and even though I had a great time - I felt like I was always missing something and the fun factor would just fall flat on some occasions. In all my cruises with Carnival, I have never felt shorted.
  18. Checked it this morning and the Pay pal tab option was back on the site and it worked! Finally after almost a week of trying. Glad they got it fixed. 🙂
  19. The last few days I have been attempting to make a payment via pay pal, however the transaction never went through. It kept giving me a red "payment denied" message and told me to try again later. I attempted to pay again this morning and now it will not give me an option to pay with pay pal, just Gift card or Credit card (see image below)... Is anyone else having the same issue? I have been making payments on my cruise since February using this method and have had no trouble since now. After work today I am going to call Carnival to see if they have any insight on whats going on but before I did, I just wanted to see if its just me or not.
  20. Looking at the booking calendar on their website, the Grand Celebration will be the ship going to Grand Bahama Island and then starting on Oct 12th, the Grand Classica will be ship going to Nassau. At least that is what I see so far. Celebration -> Grand Bahama Island (Starting Sept 27th) Classica -> Nassau (Starting Oct 12th)
  21. Glad I get to sail on her before she leaves Florida. Maybe if she stays passed April 2020, I might have to sail on her again and visit New Orleans! Do you think she will move back to Florida after April or be done with RCCL?
  22. Wow to me that is a little extreme on Royals part. There are different values of the certificates - $100, $200, etc all the way up to a "Free Cruise". So if 4 people book a room together and one of them uses a $100 dollar certificate, Royal would say on the phone the other three can't sail if the $100 certificate holder is a no show?
  23. That is what I was thinking as well. I guess at the end of the cruise if they charge me for a single supplement or for the certificate it would not be the end of the world. It most likely will not happen, I am just curious on how they would handle the certificate holder not being able to go at the last minute and if anyone has that experience.
  24. Hello! A friend and I booked a cruise in September on the Majesty using his $500 Casino Royale cruise certificate he won on our last cruise. I paid the remaining balance/taxes/fees etc so now we have a balance of $0. He received some news recently that may prevent him from being able to go. Since he is the certificate holder, I do not think we can swap him out with someone else. I was thinking if he can't go, I would just show up to the port myself and him as a "no show." However on the terms and conditions of the certificate states: This certificate offer is non transferable and the recipient must sail if redeemed. Does this mean that I would be denied boarding if it was just myself? I was thinking that worse case scenario is that they would make me pay $500 dollars to cover the certificate. As it stands right now, he is still coming on the cruise, but just wondering if he has to back out at the last minute what would happen if I just showed up at the port?
