Krickett, You used the word "staff"; that would be the officers, activities staff, etc.  They are, indeed, salaried, and do not receive tips.

Cabin attendants and dining room personnel are "crew"; they are partly dependent on the gratuity pool, as they are the ones who serve us directly.

He did not solicit for tips he was informing us that ALL personnel onboard MSC ships are paid by salary not just the upper staff and that the tips we pay to MSC are not 'extra' for the crew, MSC uses them to pay their wages.

So if we thought that the MSC system worked they  way other cruise lines do, that they do not.

If we were to take off the tips it did not effect his pay.

  2. This is exactly what our Butler told us.  All MSC staff are on a salary wage, so the only 'extra' tips they receive are the ones that you give in cash.

MSC uses the DSC to supplement paying their employee wages.  He presented this to us in a way that was just to let us know that if we thought our tips were going directly to the staff they where not, so if we thought they deserved the extra tips to give them cash.

We were at the time unsure if he was telling us the truth but when we discussed it with him a second time, he wasn't saying this just for himself he was saying it for all employees and now hearing that others are being given the same information I think maybe this is the truth.

In Europe they are used to no tips as this is their custom but when you come to American and tips are thought to be given as extra on top of their wages and if they are not then MSC is not presenting this properly to their customers.

  3. Hi everyone, just wondering if anyone can remember the cost of the Gelato on board Equinox?  i know the Ice Cream is free but my cousin is wondering how much to budget for his daily fix of gelato😋

    Thank you in advance.

  4. Hello not sure if this has been asked before i did do a search and could not find anything.

Is "Le Petit Chef™ At Qsine"  included in the dinning package or is it just Murano and Tuscan Grill?

We will be on Equinox if that makes a difference.

    TIA

  5. Hello,

WE are heading out on Seaside this February and have a couple questions regarding the extra charges for a few items, I can't seem to find the pricing anywhere.  Would anyone here know the price of the Zip line, Bowling, simulator?  just wondering if we should book the package or pay individually. Also with the new drink package changes does anyone know if you can upgrade to the Premium Plus, we are in the Yacht Club so I believe we receive the equivalent of the Premium package; and if so how much?

    TIA!!

  6. Hello,

New to MSC, I was just wondering how their photo packages work, is it by face recognition like RCCL? We have family of 6 in 3 separate cabins just wondering if we could get one package and get the pictures if at least one person from the cabin with the package is in it?

    TIA

  7. Sorry i realize that i should be able to find this answer somewhere but cannot. the Yacht Club beverage package that is included is it the Premium one? I thought that is was but a friend just booked and they upsold him the premium package for an extra $50 per person.

    TIA

  8. Thank you for a most amazing review, I am looking forward to our Seaside cruise next February; we have just returned from our first MSC cruise o board Opera and found it to be very enjoyable!. I will ask the unmentionable question.... was there a smoking area in the Yacht club area or in any of the bars?

    Thank You, Kar
