  1. Hi

If I book a Guaranteed Balcony Stateroom on Carnival Spirit what are my chances of getting an obstructed view balcony and how obstructed are they?

We booked a guaranteed balcony & got 8J extended balcony. More than we expected but very happy. We were sure we would get obstructed view which would be fine with us.

We were allocated 6 weeks prior to sailing, still have 3 weeks until we leave so it may change but I've already printed out documents.

I checked my online check in one night & found our allocation.

    Good luck.

  2. Not quite a ferry response but (as has been mentioned elsewhere before) a great alternative to the Bridge climb is the Pylon lookout....$8.50 for seniors & great views. Just a lot of steps but worth it. You can get an outstanding look at the harbour & the activity at Circular Quay.

  3. We are cruising on Rhapsody early next year, and because we are in the dregs of the ship, Deck 2, our guest ticket booklet says that our boarding time is 3pm.

Is this a definite rule, or just a guideline? Is there a possibility that we may be able to board earlier?

Get there early, settle in for lunch & watch the crowd waiting to embark. We always aim for 10.30 or 11am. We were on the Rhapsody last year from Honolulu, boarded at 11am (even though we were told 1pm), couldn't access cabin until 1.30pm,& sailed at 11.59pm.

    Have fun

  4. Hi all

I have recently booked a guaranteed balcony on Carnival Spirit...9 nights for $1838 for 2 of us. I have been keeping any eye on the prices prior to finalising my booking. Now I see on board credit of $100 per cabin for this category but current price is $2198. When I work it out this still represents an additional cost of $260.

I've also looked at other categories offering OBC however the price has been bumped up.

Hence the reason I do my research & am not fooled by what I consider false advertising.

    cheers

  5. Hi Maxx

Can you please point me in the direction of looking up available cabins on Spirit cruises? I didn't realise that was possible but if it is, I'm intrigued to see how bookings are going on my 2 future Spirit sailings.

    Many thanks.

    Phil

    Hi Phil

It's tedious, I looked at available cabins through Icruise & Ecrusing, printed off available cabins & highlighted them. I know this changes but we got a fair idea of where we could end up before we finalised today.

TA told me today that the category will be 8A minimum.

The price was too good to miss.

I found the Carnival deck plans too small that's why I used the other sites.

    Cheers

    Maxx

  6. Hi Everyone , :)

We are booked into guaranteed Balcony cabins on the Carnival Spirit , my question is ..

Has anyone been on this ship previously on guaranteed cabins ,do you know when they allocate the cabins?I have studied where all the balcony cabins are and there is big possibility that we get the lowest possible balcony cabins ,they are obstructed by the life boats and the balconies cannot be used .

I am hoping to know when they allocate cabins, so that I can ring the travel agent to change if we get the worst cabins .

Can anyone answer this question .When do Carnival do allocations?

    Cheers Deb :)

    Hi

I just booked a guaranteed balcony for next year on the Spirit. I have printed out all the deck plans & available cabins so know at this point what's available & will keep checking. I have weighed this up with booking a set cabin for more money... I'll take my chance, will put the savings towards the drink bill. I'm fairly happy with the current availabilities even though it's still a few months away.

    Fingers crossed for you.

  7. Thanks all, esp Chaz.

The hand gel is called Aqium, it's great, never thought to take it!

I plan to take a personal chamois (the kind the swimmers use)

As for reef shoes....we just bought a pair of shoes which you can use in the waterr and for walking, jogging, etc. The back also fold down to make them slip ons. Hard to explain but very versatile and I hate to say Very expensive but 3 shoes in 1.

We were told to take our own snorkel gear cheaper than hiring.

  8. Great advice from everyone. I think the thing that worries me most is that we went on a Great Barrier Reef cruise last year and everyone except about 3 of us (I was one) was vomiting, vomit bags everywhere, it was a very disturbing sight. Quells were handed out when embarking but didn't seem to do much good. It was not a pretty sight, attendants walking past the tables with huge garbage bags to put the vomit bags in. It scarred my hubby for life!

I now want to talk him in to doing an Australia Day Cruise for the Tall Ships race on Sydney Harbour, so I am interested in any help with motion sickness. I'm going to give him Maxalon tablets.

  9. I have been told that if you get sick, the doctor gives you an injection of Maxalon which is claimed to cure you for the cruise. ($140 or more if it's after hours, claimable on travel insurance) Maxalon is by prescription only.

Pnenergan is over the counter, comes in paediatric, 10mgs & 35mgs. It's primarily an anti histamine but is also used for motion sickness. Drawback is it's also a sedative, I use it when I want a good nights sleep.

Ginger is a natural remedy which also may work.

Quells & Dramamine(can cause drowsiness) also recommended.

I have read a fair bit about patches (Scopolamine based) which are left on all the time but they have some side effects, not too familiar with these.

My hubby is hopeless so we always take Dramamine & accu pressure bands when we fly. He hasn't cruised yet. This will be the test.

My GF & I are both nurses so we plan to take Maxalon (injection + tablets) plus Phenergan 10mg as well as the usual.

    Hope this info helps.
