  1. Interesting am article on the various options for cruise ships at this time. https://apple.news/AIjLPe9-1SjCUJtrtWyfJoA
  2. We were handling our own for the June cruise that got cancelled... but we are going with Viking Air for the July 2021 rebook for exactly this reason. Now we have 2 years... maybe 3... I'd have to dig up the papers... to use out Iceland Air Future Flight Credits.
  3. OMG... I finally found the search bar! And when I put my cabin number (4046) in for my July cruise to Norway, Faroe Islands, and Iceland this post popped up! I'll be on the Jupiter but staying in 'your' room! I feel so special! How exciting! Doesn't take much to excite a person these days I guess! 🤣
  4. Sigh.... I didn't get to enjoy the spa on the Sky this summer... but will look forward to using the one on the Jupiter next summer. I saw this old post and thought ... HEY! I should book a spa day here in my new city of Nashua, NH... and then I thought again... duh... damn pandemic.
  5. Soo... because there's not much else to talk about till we can sail. What are you thoughts on Cabin 4046? On the Jupiter... not that that makes a big difference. 🙂
  6. Just settling in to a forward facing chair with a glass of wine... what a view! Regarding cameras... Back in the early 70s my younger brother convinced my father to convert an old closet for him to use to develop film. It was a short lived hobby, as often is the case with grade schoolers... but I still remember the smell of the chemicals. I also remember lots of fuzzy images handing from string. Alas I have not actually be on a Viking ship yet... but I'll tell you why I THINK I am going to love them... We have dear friends in Canada, Shawnna and Larry, who had taken a cruise on Royal Caribbean with the family to the the Caribbean one spring break and loved it. After we moved back to the states Shawnna called me one day and said that Larry had expressed a desire to take a cruise to Alaska for his birthday. She had remembered that I had once mentioned being interested in doing that as well. So we hatched a plan. We planned the trip and all the excursions... but never let Larry know that Malcolm and I would be joining in the fun! Shawnna and I texted madly the day of embarkation to ensure we did not bump... literally... into each other. Then once they were seated in the buffet area we snuck up behind Larry and.... SURPRISE! He really had NO IDEA that we we coming along. Such fun! It was a marvelous trip! Malcolm and I had always seen cruising as a crowded cattle call, with lots of drunk people fighting over lounge chair by the pool. If we took a cruise it would be to Alaska but that would probably be it for us. But we enjoyed the cruise because we 'did it our way'. We chose a somewhat smaller ship, the Coral Princess. And we planned early excursions and did not bother will all the things that cruises nickle and dime you on. We were not at all interested in the casino or the art auctions or having our picture taken with phoney lumberjacks. We did enjoy a nice bottle of wine.... or two at dinner with friends and we loved all the naturalist talks. One of our fondest memories we discovering a hidden wake facing veranda to watch the glaciers sail by. One afternoon, when the bar was having 2 for 1, drinks Malcolm got two bourbons and met me on a pair of wooden deck chairs to watch the scenery go by one. We managed to carve out more intimate experiences than most folks I think. Then a few years ago now... because I'm a planner... my friend Gail suggested we take a cruise to see the Norther Lights... then we realized how cold that would be and decided summer would be nicer. So this week... we should be on the Viking Sky enjoying Norway, the Faroe Island and Iceland. DANG COVID 19! Gail and Phil have sailed Viking before, but I am convinced they will be the cruise line for us. We love discovering new places and learning new things and a calmer less congested setting. I love that they didn't waste space on things we would not use like casinos and auction space and a kids club. I don't mind well behaved children... but I'd rather have that space for a nice free to use spa space! I even love that they have laundry! (Coral Princess did as well and we used it as we tried to pack light!) And complimentary wine and beer with dinner... that's just so civilized! So for now we have to wait... now we will sail in July 2021 on the Jupiter. I'm dreaming of enjoying a cocktail in the Explorers' Lounge before dinner at Manfredi's. 🙂
  7. Nope. I tried but that was a no go. They already bought the tickets from Iceland Air. If Iceland Air won’t refund they can’t either. Makes sense.
  8. I've wondered if the reason Viking waits to cancel, even knowing they must, is to stagger the work load. Dealing with just amonth at a time...
  9. We had booked with Iceland air using our Wells Fargo "Go Far" points. (We would have been flying out later this week to begin our Iceland's Majestic Landscapes adventure) While we could not get a refund of points we did get FFCs (Future Flight Credits) good for 3 years... if Iceland Air exhists that long! So we shall see! We are rather excited to perhaps take a separate trip to Iceland or use them as a stop over enrout to Ireland or Paris someday. For now of course we shall just dream... We are rebooked for our original adventure in July of 2021 and are letting Viking handle the flights. If things go squirrely we will let them work it out for us. We are settling in to our new home in New Hampshire. Hoping you are all well and keeping safe. Please do wear your masks out. I would really like more things to open up and we can do that if we use common sense and caution. It's a tragedy... or will be... that the wearing of masks has become political. It's really simple science and hygiene. Let's all do our best to take care of each other. 🙂
  10. Wait... what? No steel drums? Ever? I don’t mind an occasional talented steel drummer in the right climate with a nice rum drink. Not every night... but at the right moment.
  11. Early morning in the lounge? I haven’t sailed yet but I bet it’s a lovely place to sit and watch the day begin...
  12. Sigh.... I've been so enjoying Andy and Judi's blog and the entire adventure. Now I'll have to find some other diversion for that 20 minutes of my day. 😞 Wishing you a swift easy trip home. Hope someone stocks your fridge with plenty of beer and all your favorite treats to enjoy during the quarrentine. 🙂
  13. Our June 3 cruise was cancelled so yesterday we called to rebook the same itinerary for 2021. The agent, Wayne Crabb, was working from home and he was fabulous! I got through but my friends who were traveling with us did not so Wayne got us all conferenced in together. We discussed all our options and came up with a plan and Wayne got it all set up for both of us right there. Fairly painless! Thanks Viking! Hang in there! We are confident you can weather this storm!
