    My first bid for Dec. 2022 was awarded almost 2 months out. This Dec. 2023 cruise, my bid was awarded 2 days out.

  2. I am sailing Beyond over the holidays (Christmas and New Years) and am trying to nail down the regular price of Veuve Cliquot champagne. Online (as a gift) Celebrity is stating a price of $130. However, looking at the online menu of two of the restaurants, I am seeing a price of $92. Does anyone know the actual price? I am asking, as I am trying to avoid having to carry on bottles and would prefer to pay the extra price for the convenience of purchasing onboard. Thanks!!

  3. Generally, if a Single Oceanview is "waitlisted," what is the single supplement to book the Double Veranda or Oceanview? (100%?) Also, if waitlisted, is there a possibility Crystal will place the single guest in any available cabin, if no single cabin becomes available? (Is it like a guarantee?)

What I am seeing in this continued argument is that those who insist on jackets and ties are not willing to budge on the subject for others to come dressed more casually (perhaps in a $300+ embroidered fashion shirt), while those who do not dress in jackets and ties are not saying that those wearing such should walk the plank. 

     

    Wearing a jacket is a preference in this day and age -- just like going from corset to girdle to no girdle. (My great-grandmother wore her corset until she died in 1969, and often quietly commented on others who did not wear them.  And by the way, corsets by the 20th century were not made of whale bone, but other animal bone, and even metal.)

     

    The wearing of suit jackets is not a generational thing, as many of my friends and acquaintances in our 60s do not wear jackets to even the top restaurants we visit. 

     

    A cruise is to enjoy.  Wear the jacket and tie if you like; wear the great designer shirt if you like. Just refrain from looking down one's nose at the dress of others. Snobbery is worse than non-formal wear!

    Thank you. I feel humbled and corrected. After all, I should not have asked if there were any videos of suites, at all.

  6. I have booked my first Silversea (a 16-day transatlantic on the Silver Dawn in May 2025). Some of the comments I have been reading are making me question if I will feel comfortable on this line, or if my every move will be judged and gossiped about.

     

    Most responders to the formal dress of days-gone-by (Tux for men, for example) are polite, but than I am reading about passengers getting the new guests into line and asking if people were scolded by the crew and required to return to their cells and change into uniform. (I slightly exaggerate, but making a point.)

     

    In the days when guests wore tuxedos and formal gowns -- and arrived at the pier with several steamer trunks in tow -- I could understand that level of formality. But with the restrictions of luggage and weight on flights, I can understand why acceptable dress has changed over the centuries. (After all, there was a time, not so long ago, when wearing a tie for a formal event was met with social stigma, as one was to wear a hand-tied bow tie for such occasions.)

     

    While I do not agree with shorts (or T-shirts), I do believe that if I wore a hand embroidered men's designer shirt without a jacket, I should be as equally accepted as a lady wearing a sleeveless gown. Perhaps if I were to change into the ladies gown, myself, I could be accepted and make an even better focus of discussion!

     

    This would be especially true if during the 16 evenings of the cruise, I arrived in a different designer, embroidered shirt, and not the same black suit and white shirt night after night (wondering if my deodorant was helping to keep my presence acceptable to nearby passengers -- yes, those jackets get a bit tired looking by the third wear on a cruise).

     

    Just one man's opinion. I would embrace upscale dress to the choice and enjoyment of the varied passengers onboard.

    Then I suppose Cruise Critic has reached its redundancy, since its purpose for asking questions and sharing knowledge have been replaced by GOOGLE. I will humbly refrain from using CC and now simply go it alone with GOOGLE — and perhaps FB.

    Yes, I googled it. Always google it, but have found nothing, hence my question. Most people google. Perhaps we should stop using Cruise Critic and discussion boards and just google it! The pics for Vista Suite are only stock pics, and the one video is of the handicapped cabin.

  9. Other than on the website, does anyone have a link to or other pictures of the Vista Suite on the Silver Dawn?  What I have seen are showing the stock pictures. I am interested in the closet and bathroom, as well as any other views. Any videos or 3D tours of which one knows?

    True, and simple solution, but then Regent should not link online users to their Single Supplement Specials and have a link for getting the quoted fare, if it is not correct. I was attempting to save contacting my TA until I had a ballpark fare. Such a shame a cruise line like Regent has a website with such a major glitch.

So, i called the TA for an explanation.  I hope I can explain it correctly.  The $5599 quoted price is the special, "two for one".  Once you switch to the Single  Supplement deal, you are no longer eligible for the "two for One" price, because you are a Single.  So, the price that is used to arrive at the , "single supplement " total is not based on the $5599 price, but on the original brochure price.  Yikes!! that makes the Single Supplement, 25% deal laughable. A Very misleading offer. I hope this explanation helps!

  12. Can someone explain the current Single Supplement Special?  When I link to the available cruises, one of interest is Dec. 20, 2025. According to the website, the Single Supplement is only 25% for a DELUXE VERANDA SUITE G or certain other categories. The price showing is $5,599 (pp for 2 people). So the Single Supplements (+25%) should make the cruise $6,998.

     

    Yet, when I go through the process of Plan My Cruise, the price showing is $11,198.  Am I missing something?

    If they are short of water, cruise ships make it worse quicker!

    All of the talk has been about cargo ships, not cruise ships, because of the depth needed for the cargo ships, especially in the Lake.  Other than RCCL cancelling on their own (and the cancellation by Crystal, as they start up again) can anyone name a cruise ship that has had to cancel?  Any that have, it is because of the cost, not the availability to enter the locks and cross.

  15. Cargo ships cannot make reservations, because of their weight and their depth in the water. It is non-reserved ships that are limited to 31 per day. Reserved ships are still allowed to transit.

     

    Cruise ships must make reservations, which are honored. Also, the depth of a cruise ship is much more shallow that a cargo ship.  One big line (as you know), RCC, cancelled Panama Canal cruises to save cash and to move their reservations to their other cruise line, Celebrity and Silversea.
