  1. I have found that for those who have the NCL $9.95 messaging package, you can’t count on messages showing up on the other person’s phone unless they manually check the NCL app…however! If you use the messaging app’s phone feature to reach them, the call usually punches through and alerts them immediately. So if you need to get someone’s attention right away, phoning through the app is usually the most reliable way. and as others have said, you get a special phone number in the app, which you can phone from anyone else in the app, or from room-to-app, or even phone ship’s services from the app.
  2. Ya I guess this is the thing, they may start charging 100% occupancy for single travellers in balconies now
  3. Is the purpose of the new studio balcony cabins mainly to get single cruisers to buy a balcony cabin outright instead of getting a true studio and then just rebooking to a balcony at the last minute? for most of the cruises where I booked a studio, I just ended up checking the NCL site for better balcony rates up until the day of cruise, and then just paid the difference in cost for the balcony. In most cases it wasn’t much.. $500 Canadian max. Sometimes just a couple hundred, and in one instance, it was like a $20 difference I feel like single cruisers who want balconies might still get a better rate by booking a studio and then paying the cost difference for a balcony at the last minute. Obviously regular-fared balconies for single cruisers don’t get the studio lounge but I don’t think anyone really cares about that… I’m sure NCL Has run the numbers and discovered they will make more money by getting single cruisers to pay for a balcony upfront…companies obviously never do anything like this unless they’re trying to make more money off it
  4. Does anyone know if it works on the Joy recently without a package?
  5. I have been on both. Honestly, for fun activities like slides and rock climbing and things, I would choose symphony hands down every day of the week and twice on Sunday. The entertainment just kills NCL too. Between the skating drone shows, diving shows, hairspray, flight, you will never want to go to NCL again… the basketball court on symphony is excellent. I can’t remember if joy has one. joy is a fine ship, but I wouldn’t say there’s a whole lot of excitement and activities, and the VR gaming pavilion was rather a let down. I did Joy for a Panama Canal and it was perfect for that because of the OBS lounge and general plentiful outdoor spaces. that being said, if your kids want to just go wild, get trashed, party all night and hang out with folks, NCL is probably the better choice because of the drinks pack and theme parties. The symphony did not really have a late night party scene and the nightclub was disappointing.
  6. Wow!!! This is b00L|<rap to the MAX. I would be furious, the OL is my mainstay because I don’t necessarily like being on the topdeck wow, just wow!
  7. Tell us about the soca group and any impact it had on your experience
  8. Funny you mention that. Because in fact, the epic is the one ship I recall having no issues with the app. I used it from my first cruise ever many years ago on the epic and it always worked well there for me.
  9. Message notifications for the app generally don’t work instantly but if you really need to get the person’s attention immediately, an app-to-app voice call usually rings their app immediately.
  10. Ohhh… so the one with free at sea isn’t get you to the ship if you’re late? Or is it the other way around? (Preem air) ELI5 pls.
  11. Is this for real?! I thought the whole point of NCL AIR was that they take all the risk in either a) getting you to the cruise on time or at the next port, b) you’d get your money back. Is this not correct? If not, why not?
  12. Sorry, all the wine dispenser bottles in the studio lounge are PAID only, not included in any package you may have.
  13. Let Me guess: you types that eat strawberries while holding the stem…you’re the same types who eat chicken wings with their fingers, aren’t ya!!?
  14. Just off Bliss. I had no issues with once a day. I’m not sure it’s going well for everyone though. One day, I saw an elderly man arguing with a steward, because the man was trying to drag a vacuum to do his own room. Yes, one of the big grey ones. If self-vacuuming is what NCL is moving toward, shame on you Norwegian My Steward was able to adapt to my changing schedule of days and nights. Requested extra towels - got them for the cruise. Bed foam padding - got it on day 2. Also, They do not offer hard bars of soap in steerage any more. I probably could have fought for a handful of the Bvlgari ones from the haven but next time I’ll just bring a loofah or my own bars.
  15. Ya, but I think this where you’ll be fine. Seeing as it’s not a full charter, it’s probably just a cuppa hundo rooms… and if you got fam around.. you’re lucky you have company! So there ya go, I think it will be a good time actually… and even though it may be a group booking, that doesn’t mean it will REPLACE a demographic that would have otherwise been there… it will mean “in addition TO…”. So you’ll still have whoever was planning to be on board and in that sense, it will probably feel like a normal cruise trust me, I have been on ships with bookings before and if you weren’t part of the group, you wouldn’t have known they were there unless ya aksed
  16. I want to offer the OP reassurance but also sympathy. I didn’t get whether the OP was cruising alone, but I do think it would be hard to find yourself on a solo cruise that turned out to be any sort of group cruise. I’ve heard of all sort of groups chartering boats in the hundreds of people… accountants, real estate agents, travel agents, and other demographics. It might be more difficult to socialize because the group people tend to have more things in common. that being said, I have landed myself on a couple cruises in the past which were either group cruises or cruises skewed toward a particular demographic, whether it be time of year, port, or whatever. My opinion of it was, you wouldn’t have known a group chartered it if you didn’t ask. Sure, there were clusters of people gathered in particular venues more often than others, but that just meant there were plenty of quiet and alternate places to hang out on the ship when they were there anyway!!! besides I hardly doubt NCL would dare cancel their regular programming in favour of a group booking. You might find signs in certain areas saying “booked for private event”, which would have otherwise been mostly empty at that time anyway. And perhaps they’ll add a specific showtime for this group for the Donna summer show or other show, which just means you’ll have more space when you wanna go! so yeah, not ideal for solos, but not a write off. and hopefully, they do have their special event parties mostly on the topdeck, it’s too damn cold to be out there on a New York cruise in April anyway! (That’s why I was leaning toward prima April and then walksd my idea back - I wanna be somewhere HOT)
  17. dude - I felt EXACTLY the same before I first fruise, and now I’m hooked. I’ve hardly done any non-cruise vacations since. You’re going to love it. There’s so much to do and keep busy. Don’t worry not everyone on board is a princess
  18. I was also hoping to find “that guy”…the one who gets to their Haven cabin and loses it when they see strawberries without the tops cut off. Kinda like the “NO MORE WIRE HANGERS” scene from “Mommy Dearest” 🙂 also, not sure why people are saying these “look better” whole, and expect the stems to still be attached. As far as I’m concerned, the proper way to prepare chocolate-covered strawberries would be to cut the tops off and encase the ENTIRE berry in chocolate. Then, you eat them whole with your fingers, or, off a toothpick, if you’re dignified.
  19. I can’t believe all you naysayers! Don’t you dare say you’d turn a plate of strawberries down if the tops were cut off, now you’re just being cruisecritickey
  20. Is it just me or does anyone else think they need do chop the tops (leaves/stems) off these strawberries? I realize they’re preparing a few hundred of these for onboarding but, like really…would it hurt to have someone extra in the line just to cut the tops off? these get so messy if you try to eat them with your hands, and you have to bite around the leaves. A good portion of the strawberry always goes wasted. 😡 it just seems like laziness to me, ie. “oh, here’s your welcome plate, have fun trying to eat them without making a mess, enjoy!” Also, do haven customers get their chocolate-covered strawberries prepared the same way as steerage or are yours fancier and with the tops cut off? I think if I were a Haven passenger and they left a plate of strawberries in my room without the tops cut off, I would lose my shhhhh😡
  21. I’ve not seen any reviews on the Prima nightlife. Can anyone share their thoughts? for a ship that supposedly has an amazing theatre that transforms into a nightclub after the Donna Summer musical and disco-themed parties, there is surprisingly scant information on prima nightlife that I can find. How is the uptake by passengers? Are they well-attended or what? Does prima also do a topdeck party every night, or have they moved everything indoors? I like the bliss and encore but this, in my opinion is where they got it wrong. It’s too cold and windy most of the time for topdeck parties and the wet floor is a hazard. Since they moved these parties from spice H2O I’ve been mostly gonesies from NCL nightlife.
  22. I’ve got the code WATER6PK on my invoice and I expect to see it in my room, unfortunately I can’t stand water, so I’ll be happily handing them out to others in my travelling party 🙂
  23. Jayszzzsus chroiiiist… is this for real…??! I’m scared about making my 1 PM outta Miami on the 25th
