Good morning. Catalina was about 78 nautical miles from San Diego. So we slowly cruised and then did some drifting. Just entering San Diego with USS Abraham Lincoln #72 on our starboard side. We are heading for our dock. We will be picking up 300 new pax’s today. We are going on a Hal wine excursion tour.

Last night we had a fantastic dinner in Canelleto. Only three tables of diners. Specialty restaurants are not receiving much business so far. At 60% occupancy you definitely can find space. Pre dinner libations last night in Pinnacle Bar most of the time it was just us.

Had a female comedian last night who we enjoyed. The casino was hopping.. Seeing a lot of Players Club folks. BB King was packed as usual.

Time to get ready for another Pinnacle Grill breakfast.

    Thanks to all.

Good morning! Happy to be one of the 300 boarding later this afternoon! Heading out to take some pictures. Yay!

  2. Great selection of days, meal, wine & quote!

My car is named Roxy the Redhead -- I'll bet you know what color she is!😄

Grenada was a stop on one of our earliest cruises, when we didn't know to book private excursions. We did a ship's excursion to snorkle with turtles, and there were so many people that we were all crashing into one another. The poor turtles didn't have a chance!! Never again!

  3. Rabbit, white rabbit - Happy October!

The moving van arrived yesterday at my DS & DDIL's new apartment, so now it is filled with boxes of "stuff"! We're grateful that only one piece was damaged, easily replaced at Ikea. The next time I see the place (post-cruise), they should be nicely settled in.

Thankful for coffee. the elderly (15 years older than me!), and homemade cookies. Yum!

    Stay well!

  4. Good morning! Welcome home Sam!!!

I'm conducting my personal Prepareathon as I try to get ready for my Maritime Day next Wednesday! My boarding time in San Diego has now been delayed to 3, so I'm wondering if I have time for a visit to the zoo....

Hilo is a nice town and has a very interesting tsunami museum, and a child-size aquarium. We enjoyed wandering around the town & had a nice plate lunch on our last visit.

BTW, did you see that Kilauea erupted yesterday?

Thanks for the Daily and the lists. Prayers are raised for all that need them.

The moving van is scheduled to arrive with the kids' belongings today, so I'll be spending the rest of the day up at the apartment sorting boxes. Fun times, and I'm happy to help!

    Stay well!

    Good Afternoon,

What a pleasure it is to be back in the daily.  Have any of you ever gotten sick while on vacation?  It is no fun at all.  The late Erma Bombeck wrote a book about it, "When you look like you passport photo, it's time to go home"....well I certainly looked like mine!  At least I took a few of pictures of the trip itself that I hope to post in the coming days.

Thoughts and prayers to all that need them.  I'm trying to get caught up on all the news.

    Have a wonderful day everybody!

    Welcome back, Bruno!

Good morning, Friends. Thank you for the Daily, the Lists and the Recipes.

I agree with those who have already posted that there are no stupid questions.

We are very blessed that the one family who shares our section of our street are wonderful neighbors. They think we are wonderful so it makes mountain living even more peaceful.

We should always appreciate our public lands.

Interested in the chili recipe. I make a lentil chili; the first time I made it, many years ago, my family ate it, loved it and we're shocked when I told them there was no meat in it.

Today DH will mix and pour the mortar base in our shower. Other than that we will be getting ready to leave tomorrow for a trip to Florida which will include some business but also visiting family at least. (We have been going back and forth about whether or not we need to take this trip right now and decided it is necessary due to a company not calling back so we will deal with them in person. 😔)

    Have a terrific Tuesday!

🙏 and 🎉 for those on our lists.

Safe travels and I hope you get the issue with the company resolved!

  7. Happy to say that DS and DDIL have been successfully relocated to Maryland! Thanks for all your good wishes. Two very long days of driving with three adults and two cats -- I don't recommend it!! Of course the moving van won't arrive until sometime between Wednesday & Saturday - sigh.

The next order of business is to set DDIL up with some good doctors!

  8. Received this morning!

Please be advised that due to updated travel restrictions, Nieuw Amsterdam
will no longer call to Fuerte Amador (Panama City), Panama on Saturday,
October 16, 2021 but will instead visit Manzanillo, Colima, Mexico from 7:00
AM to 4:00 PM on Tuesday, October 12. The call to Grand Turk, Turks and Caicos on Thursday, October 21 has been replaced with an overnight call to Half Moon Cay, Bahamas beginning at 1:00 PM on that day. As a result of these changes,

we will now depart San Diego, CA at 7:00 PM rather than 5:00 PM, and call times in Oranjestad, Aruba have been adjusted. The revised itinerary displays in full below.

Guests with Holland America Line shore excursions for cancelled ports will receive a refund to the original form of purchase. Tours for new ports will be available to book online within the next 7 to 10 days.

We look forward to welcoming you on board Nieuw Amsterdam.

  9. Growing up, my family attended a church that had a German legacy, and they loved to hold pork & sauerkraut dinners as fund-raisers. I was the family disgrace because I hated sauerkraut! Funny thing, though - now I like it.

I'll be off the boards for the rest of the week because I'm flying to Iowa to help my son & DIL (and 2 cats) drive back to MD for a permanent move. Yay!

While I'm away, I'll be deciding whether I'm going to go on my NA trip in October or cancel. The latest round of itinerary changes (which I learned about here - still nothing from HAL) eliminates the two ports I wanted to see, and I'm not thrilled with an overnight at Half Moon Cay. But, on the other hand, it IS on a BHB. Decision time!

  10. I remember when one of the red pandas at the National Zoo in DC escaped and went on the lam -- the city had great fun enjoying his brief freedom!

I've got to say, and I hope I don't offend anyone, that the meal of the day sounds like a Hamburger Helper concoction!

Hurricanes (the drink!) always take me back to New Orleans.

Stay safe and stay well, everyone!

  11. Good citizenship and the Constitution go hand-in-hand, in my mind!

One of my favorite desserts is hot apple dumpling ala mode -- aaaah! It's got an apple in it, so it's healthy, right? 😉

I always associate mint juleps with the Kentucky Derby. I was in Nashville on business one time and stayed at the historic hotel that claimed to have invented them - and they were tasty!

I've embarked from San Diego twice. The first time was a mess -- we stood in line forever and there were very few seats available to rest. And it was hot - no air conditioning - ugh! The second time, in 2019, was much improved, so I look forward to boarding the NA there in just  19 days!!

  12. Just got home from church. The choir rehearses briefly before the service, then after the service we have our weekly hour-long rehearsal. Followed by a stop at the grocery store - it was afternoon before I got home!

Thanks for the Daily and the Care /Celebrations lists.

I'd rather have a coffee milkshake than a chocolate one! I only knew my paternal grandmother, but she died when I was five, so my memories of her are dim. All of our pets have left a pawprint on my heart.

Thanks for the information and pictures about Fuerte Amador. The NA stops there in October before going through the Canal - this will be my first visit. I booked the rain forest tram ride -- has anyone done that?

    Prayers for everyone!

    Edi
