Booked on Liberty for 2/17 sailing and received the email today. Currently booked in an Oceanview room. Minimum is for a balcony is $100, Junior Suite for $250, or panoramic suite for minimum $250. Can’t afford to upgrade higher.
We booked well over a year ago, and I’ve watched prices. We got a good deal, and we are financially a little better off, So bidding makes sense for us.
I’m not familiar enough with a Jr Suite to know what other benefits you get. Any? We have also booked The Key. If I got a Jr Suite, should we cancel The Key?
The website shoes all balcony and and suites sold out for that sailing, so none of this makes sense. I’d love a balcony room, but I’m afraid if we get a Jr Suite (assuming we won) my first-time cruiser husband will never cruise in anything less haha

I don’t understand why some are upset over this pass... anyways. I am going on a November 2019 cruise and I just purchased this perk. I think it’s a nice offer as it will only be my son and I for his birthday cruise. I spoke to my cruise planner and she verified that they only sell 100 per ship. My son loves the FloRider and it never seems to be enough time for him so this will be great for him. I like the shows and I hate rushing so that’s my perk. Also avoiding the Windjammer on the first day... definitely a plus! Getting on and off faster in every aspect... plus plus!! Dropping off my 12 pack of water and not lugging it around... yass!
I had actually forgotten what a nightmare the Windjammer can be on the first day!! My husband has never cruised, so I’m hoping to have Day 1 be as stress-free as possible. A nice lunch should help with that. If I ever want to go on anymore cruises, we gotta keep Papa happy! 😂😂😂

I initially reserved The Key directly with an RCI rep on the phone because I had called to cancel and rebook the beverage package when the price dropped. That was before I saw this thread, so I had a lot more questions. I asked how many of The Key would be sold, and I was told there were only 100. I have nothing in writing that says so, but that’s what I was told. Is it possible I was lied to? Sure, I suppose. But then I came here and saw the same information, so it leads me to believe that’s probably the case- either that, or the rep I spoke to was part of some big conspiracy haha.
in terms of waiting for the flow rider, my husband won’t be doing it, and there are probably many like us who aren’t physically able to, which is another reason we wanted The Key (not having to wait in line for a show). I may give it a go once, but I assure you that my one time on the flow rider won’t be an inconvenience to most of you on the cruise, anymore than anything else. You know, like maybe you’ll be inconvenienced because I’m at the buffet at the same time as you (rolling my eyes).
its still pretty clear to me that there will be people this program appeals to, and there will be people it doesn’t. I don’t see it inconveniencing anyone much, except for maybe people who want to feel special because they paid to have a suite. But even then this doesn’t take anything away from them!
As as far as flow rider lines go, they’ve always been long. I don’t know that this will have much of an impact on the regular flow rider lines, except to take someone like me OUT of the regular line the one time I decide to give it a go.
We cruise Feb 17 and have bought The Key for $19.99 each for the 2 of us. I’ll let you know how it goes.

There is never a shortage of people willing to tell you how to spend - or not spend - your money. 😉
However, it's perfectly fine with me when someone will at least back up their opinion with the reasons why they are for or against something. It is about giving advice and often times someone will give me a point that I hadn't thought about before .
It's all about priorities and what's important to you. Happy sailing.
Totally agree. It’s the bashing I don’t appreciate. Things get nasty when they don’t need to.

So here’s the thing...those who don’t want this have decided those who want this are stupid, have “fallen for marketing,” are “getting ripped off,” or even “ruining the industry,” while those who like the idea now feel like they have to justify why they’ve purchased it.
Can we all just agree that PEOPLE TRAVEL DIFFERENTLY and people have different preferences? Holy crap, the whole thread has devolved into one person giving an opinion and the other telling them it’s wrong.
i won’t try to convince you to go on an excursion, and you don’t have to convince me to stay on the ship. Different strokes!!
The thread really should be about what the program is, how it works in reality (because it’s new and not many people have experienced it yet,) etc.
Nobody’s asking your opinion of how they spend (or don’t spend) their money.

No reservations? Even better!
We have purchased The Key for our February sailing, mainly because of my husband’s mobility issues and how much he hates waiting in line lol.

Goodbye Royal Caribbean. There are many choices to be had in the leisure industry and my dollars will go elsewhere. A more equitable form of prioritizing would be to give early bookings first place in line. I'm afraid that " the Key " is just opening the door to other cruise availibilities.
ANY type of prioritizing will be inequitable in someone’s mind. Early bookings? I’m sorry- my husband has been sick for 5 years, so we can’t early book. When he’s well, we plan a trip- several of which have had to be cancelled. So in my mind, that way of prioritizing isn’t very equitable either.

Some people will find value in this program, while others won’t. It’s really that simple, and there’s no reason to get nasty if someone finds value in something you don’t!!

Thank you for the thorough review, Biker! We purchased for our February sailing, mainly because of my husband’s mobility issues. While not technically handicapped, I still dreaded having to get through crowds to get a seat at shows. He likely won’t zip line or use the flow rider, but I might!

+1 for the naysayers - it's such a flop they have to discount it before it is ever launched.
I don’t see it that way. Currently, there are excursions, spa services, and beverage packages being discounted in my cruise planner.
One thing to consider- it’s entirely possible this program isn’t for you- much like any other offered program- but it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a scam or a waste of money or that the people interested are stupid. It’s ok for other people to disagree, you know.
It will be interesting to see see how it’s run and if the perks are worth it for non-suite guests.

It obviously wouldn’t be worth it if you have a suite, but we have an ocean view room, and it is definitely more than $350 to upgrade to a suite.
like many other things, I think some people will think it’s worth it and others won’t. I’ll just be interested to see if it’s worth it for anyone. I’m doing it specifically so I can get my husband to the shows without crowds or problems with accessibility. Most people don’t have that issue...

Lots of people saying "no," which is where I'm leaning, but I'm hoping someone who tries it out will come back and report here. It would be nice to have the questions answered such as the extra hours on the amenities and whether the lunch was overcrowded.
I’ll defin report back, but we aren’t cruising until February. I doubt we will even use the activities due to physical abilities, but I will at least have a look at how long lines are, what the hours are, etc.

Thank you very much!

We are going out of Galveston in February on Liberty of the Seas. Anyone know how early we can embark on RCL? I'm going to book transportation from IAH and want to know how early we should leave in the morning. (flying in the day before).

When I called to ask about airport transfers, the representative asked if I had heard of the Key and said it included airport transfers. At that point, I was all in. Just the transfers are $200, so that would've been a good deal. However, it does NOT include airport transfers, so now it's more of a question for me.
I'm still considering it, only because it's my husband's first cruise, he doesn't get around very well (though not technically disabled), and I'm thinking it might be worth it just to have reserved seating for the shows. Because of his mobility issues, he struggles. However, it's been a long time since I've been on a cruise (10 years+), so I don't even know if priority seating is even necessary, We won't be doing the flow rider or rock climbing. On one hand, I feel like why spend the money. On the other hand, if it prevents a grumpy husband and means we don't have to fight crowds, it might just mean he will go on future cruises! The representative said there are no more than 40 Key memberships offered per sailing. Not sure if that's true, or if it's like "the airport transfers are included."

Ok, since it’s a private tour, we have flexibility. There’s snorkeling right from West Bay Beach, correct?
-
We have to choose one. Both are catamaran trips with snorkeling. Is the snorkeling better in one place than the other? We've both snorkeled before, but not in Mexico.
Thanks in advance! (PS, we're also going to Roatan, but we've booked a private island tour. Are we really missing the best snorkeling if we don't snorkel in Roatan?)

I've seen a lot on Havana, but not much on these two ports.
Somewhere I saw information for CUBATours, and I've contacted them. Can anyone provide feedback on their tours?
I'm a little concerned the tour had to be pre-paid via PayPal. Is this common?
Other suggestions for private tour operators in these ports? There will only be two of us, but with my husband's health problems, we want to be able to tailor the itinerary to us.
Do any of the tour operators in these ports have AC in the cars?
Thanks!

We were originally booked on Emptess in February to Cuba. The 2 alternative cruises they offered for the same prices were not comparable (one as only a 5-day). We opted to rebook completely, and are now sailing to the western Caribbean out of Galveston. To be honest, we aren’t nearly as excited as we were for Cuba, but we had to sail that same week, so our options were limited.
im not very happy with how RCI handled the whole thing. Seems like there should’ve been options to cruise the same week on a different ship with the price protection they offered for the other 2 sailings, but oh well.
maybe we will still get toCuba someday.
