  1. The gangs there definitely have paramilitary weaponry, not just machetes, but I agree that they have not had access to the types of weapons that would sink ships or shoot down aircraft.
  2. That does seem very limiting. I wonder what the standard in the cruise industry is when it comes to babies/toddlers.
  3. I think you mean the Dominican Republic? The island that Haiti and the Dominican Republic share is Hispaniola.
  4. Where are you seeing this information? I just went back through some dailies for one of my recent sailings and it shows that the Baby club is open from 9:00am-11:00pm. I don't know if there are restrictions on how long you can leave your baby there at a time, but those are the hours listed.
  5. That's what we do as well. We also prefer not to carry our passports around with us in most ports. A passport card won't be sufficient for flying out of a foreign country in an emergency, but I would think having one on you might make it a bit quicker/easier to work with the Embassy or whatever authorities you would need to go through.
  6. On the older ships, the Aurea dining is usually just a section of one of the normal MDRs. It will be printed on your keycard when you check in and also printed in the daily planner. As Aurea, you will not have to go at a set time, just anytime within the operating hours of that dining area, which will also be printed in the daily planner. For MDR menus, the switch up between ships and sailing, but you can get an overall idea of the types of things on offer by looking at many of the Live blogs and reviews in these forums. Just page through and see what you can find.
  7. Right, I only do that for my free Diamond dinner. We never pay for the dining package, especially now that it dictates which restaurants you have to eat at. We like to just stick to using up our OBC with a la carte items from Hola! and the sushi place, since those a la carte prices are very reasonable. I am happy that we get the free meal in BC, though, because my husband loves steak and we almost never go anywhere he can get a decent steak in real life, due to my dietary restrictions.
  8. Did you ask about simply getting a refund in OBC once onboard? I was assured repeatedly by reps on the phone and the live chat that I would receive OBC once onboard.
  9. I don't see how this $2 charge could be tax. No tax rate in any US port is >10%, so even if you were ordering $20 drinks, the tax wouldn't be $2. NCL's regular drink package only covers drinks up to $15. So if you were paying say, 8% on a $15 drink, then the tax would only be $1.20.
  10. Could be that your sailing isn't impacted. There is still one functional pier in Ocho Rios. The challenge comes when there are/were two ships scheduled to be docked in Ocho Rios at the same time. If only one ship was going to be in port anyway, then no itinerary changes are necessary. If two ships were scheduled to be docked, that means one can't, but one still can, so if MSC "wins" between the two ships, then your itinerary would also be unaffected. I was on the Divina to Ocho Rios less than two weeks after the accident with the Carnival Magic and we were still able to dock because there were no other ships scheduled in port that day.
  11. I often won't eat a full entree, having had gastric sleeve surgery several years ago. When I have gone to Butcher's Cut, I have been allowed to swap out my entree for a second soup/salad/appetizer on two occasions. You might be able to ask about swapping out your dessert for a second soup/salad/appetizer. You are correct that ribeye is not included on the BC tastings menu.
  12. I believe you can choose an entree off the a la carte menu and pay half price for it (excluding the tomahawk steak).
  13. When do you sail? As others have mentioned, the Carnival Magic crashed into one of the piers Ocho Rios, which has forced a lot of last-minute changes to the Jamaican port schedules for all cruise lines. The accident happened at the beginning of February and I had heard it might take a few months to make the repairs to re-open the pier, so I would expect that if you are sailing in April or even May, there might still be some confusion.
  14. I don't think there is a minimum age since I have seen babies in high chairs at the MDR on multiple MSC ships. As for maximum age, do you mean a maximum age allowed to order off the kids' menu? I don't think so. I am fairly sure an adult could order off the kids' menu if they wanted.
  15. Huh? I was just explaining that someone could use the OBC they were refunded for pre-paid specialty dining to cover part of the cost of the upgrade to Premium onboard. Which is the question I was responding to. I wasn't suggesting that it makes upgrading to Premium a good deal or anything....
  16. Since your onboard account isn't charged to your credit card in real-time, I think this would work. Say you had a reservation for CG and Rudi's. They are ~$35 per person? So you have spent $140 (assuming there are two of you) to pre-book specialty restaurants through the app. Once onboard, you upgrade to Premier from Plus, so you spend $280 to upgrade. That $280 gets billed against your account, but then you get $140 credited back to your account for the two specialty reservations. Your total balance owed on your account at the end of your cruise and billed against your credit card would be $140.
  17. I used both of these on my recent Divina sailing: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0845WDMMT/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07YVMM483/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
  18. This is a great reason to have an enhanced license or a passport card that you just keep in your wallet! Either can be used for closed-circuit cruises from a US port. I always bring my passport on cruises, because I am terrified of getting stranded in a foreign country, but I do always have my passport card with me at least.
  19. I was told on the phone that, if I wanted, I could pay to book my specialty reservations while waiting for my Premier package to show up on my account and then I could have the cost of the pre-paid reservations refunded onboard as OBC.
  20. Was just about to ask a similar question. We booked a GTY mini-suite on the Enchanted Princess for May and I was curious when a cabin is likely to be assigned. I guess I should stop checking my booking multiple times a day!
  21. Galaxy and Butcher's Cut are the only two specialty restaurants on the Divina.
  22. I called and they told me that it can take 24-48 hours for the system to update with my upgrade, so to try back then. Unfortunately, I fear the last few remaining reservations will be booked by then. Has anyone had any luck/experience with booking specialty dining when onboard? The rep on the phone told me that only a certain percentage of reservations are made available to book through the app ahead of the cruise and we should still be able to book onboard?
  23. I hope you have a great time! Make sure to say hello to Reynald at Caffe Italia for us!
  24. I just upgraded our booking from Princess Plus to Princess Premier. I was hoping to go in and make our specialty dining reservations ASAP, since we are only 49 days from sailing and there are few days/times still available. However, when I try to make reservations through the app, it wants to charge my credit card. How do I reserve my two free specialty dinners that I receive through Princess Premier? Do I need to call?
  25. It never even occurred to me to interpret this in any way besides "per member" though it does technically say "per person." Why would MSC give any OBC for non-members on the booking?
