  1. Question about tours… it looks like tour  operators in PR are requiring masks for everyone vax or no. I’m not sure if this is a govt rule or if this is how tour operators  can avoid a whole lot of hassle. Does anyone (Aviator) know if this is a universal thing or if there are any tour companies running vaccinated and mask free tours? Is this a govt rule that may expire at a set date?

    thanks for everyone’s help!

  2. Stayed at El Canario Boutique Hotel (aka Canario Inn) thanksgiving weekend. They were running on generators, and anyone from FEMA had enough sense to not stay there. I knew what I was getting into as far as room/bathroom size and (lack of ) amenities, however was not counting on having cash stolen followed by the attitude of the owner concerning the theft. The regular folks working the front desk were friendly and knowledgeable about the restaurants etc in the area however. Their sister hotel is Wind Chimes, and although it does have a beautiful small pool that Canario guests can use, it is run by the same people and is in a pretty sketchy stretch just off Ashford. Open, but also not recommended.

Post cruise I was supposed to stay at Canario by the Lagoon, which is not related in any way to the Boutique. It's a great little place, with a great staff, but it was taken over by FEMA so I was out of luck. I arrived there and the front desk said they cancelled all reservations through May a week ago...I had called to confirm but the cancellation happened while I was cruising. Expedia did not bother to inform anyone, and the lobby was full of people like me who thought they had reservations but really no longer did.

Expedia was at fault not the hotel. They are now on the Naughty List.

  3. I was just in San Juan a couple weeks ago. People there will be very glad to see you visiting. Most of the damage is hidden from tourist view, but you will see lots of construction and repair work going on and some shops are not yet open.

I recommend eating mofongo (goes well with sangria) at Orozco's on Ashford ave. It's made of mashed plantains and you can choose chicken, shrimp, etc and choose your sauce.

A taxi from the pier to the restaurant would be under $20, maybe more with more people. Fares are regulated, and based on zones of travel, so you will know exactly what to expect before getting in the cab.

Shopping/walking up and down Ashford is fun too, and swimming at the beach (a block up from Ashford Ave) is a great way to spend the afternoon. Undertow can be strong...

    Enjoy!

  4. Beautiful as ever!

What I was getting worried about was stories of sewage overflow into the water, making it unsafe for swimming.

I'd hang out at the beach either way, just wouldn't want to swim if it's not clean. Bad childhood memories of the Indiana Dunes....

  5. Well today I called the captains club customer service line to ask why I couldn't enter the correct passport information. I keep trying to edit it, looks like it takes, then reverts back to my expired passport number. While I have a blend of sympathy and awe for anyone dealing with the (irate) public, I must say after talking to them I feel berated for not knowing that clicking on "edit" and making changes to open fields isn't actually *supposed* to make updates...."That's not where you're supposed to enter that information" she said over and over....Old timer got fooled by the great big giant "edit" button I guess!

It seems there was an opportunity for Celebrity to apologize for the obviously broken website, and assure a repeat customer that their trip would indeed go off as planned, with a clear explanation of how/when this would be fixed or accessible. They failed.

    Erroneous or Missing Information?

  7. I have been unable to update my passport number from the expired one they have on file. Looks like it updates, then reverts to the old number with incomplete information the next time I log in. (Yes I do hit "save") Have not been able to enter my partners number at all. Of course I will call them, but the time spent on hold will most likely take up my entire lunch break.

  8. Whoa....I thought all the trouble I was having was due to a broken site, not an "upgraded" site! I agree Royal's site seems designed to make you so frustrated you call the 800 number or just book with someone else. Now Celebrity has sunk to that level...Thursday's Child I hope they call on your services very soon.

  9. Has anyone tried the Nikon AW130? I want to get something for vacation/water pictures, not top of the line since (unfortunately) I'm not on vacation all that much, but something that will last several years. From reviews it seems like a good bet but I trust real people's reviews more than professional reviews...

    Any opinions?

  10. I'll be on a cruise which will include Solstice, Festivus, Christmas, and if I'm calculating right at least the first night of Hanukkah. While we were actually hoping to avoid some of the over the top holiday hoo-haa, I do like the idea of wearing my best Festivus attire while ringing out the solstice bells.

  11. We would love to hear about anyone's steak grilled to order in the Oceanview on Summit. We sail in 3 weeks (:D) and may not want to get all dolled up for formal night. We do love the food on formal nights but are trying to pack extra light--more of an issue for the guys' suits. Thanks!

  12. Hmmm I guess dinky wee escargot are better than none at all?

I'll be on the Summit 3/29 and was looking forward to eating escargot and other cruise-only treats. this thread and others have me worried that while I'm sure I'll have a fab time, the foodie treats won't be the same as a few years ago.

BTW I LOVE that there is an entire thread devoted to escargot! That alone should tell the bosses at Celebrity what is important to their loyal cruisers.

  13. So true....but I'm kinda doing it by myself now, sometimes with a small group of friends. Anyway I can see why ships might not want barbells with big round rolly weights on them rolling across the gym floor as the ship moves.

Anyway, it will be fun to see what can be done!

  14. Has anyone tried crossfit while cruising? I'd love to keep up with it on vacation. If anyone has done this, I'd like to know how you got the WOD? Or did you make it up as you went?

I'm waiting for the crossfit theme cruise, you know its coming!

Handstand pushups on a moving ship, anyone?
