  1. Whilst this does happen. There are people who think it is perfectly fine to step out in front of a scooter/wheelchair and expect the scooter/wheelchair not to hit them.
  2. Hi and welcome to Cruise Critics. Watch out for people. We cruise with a wheelchair bound son, every cruise we have to suddenly stop because someone has stepped out in front of the wheelchair. As @ARandomTraveler has mentioned allow extra time for elevators, particularly at busy times; for example after shows have finished.
  3. Nice idea but Eurovision is shown in the evening about 9pm UK time. OP would have to find somewhere that is showing a rerun of the show
  4. I'm curious are you referring to UK cruise companies or any ship that sail from the UK.
  5. Can I just add to this comment that the "special" section is not always wheelchair friendly.
  6. Thank you for starting this thread. I was going to chase ours up from May but I won't now.
  7. We were told that cruise lines that contributed towards the cost of Geirangerfjord floating dock get use the dock.
  8. Instead of taking an Xbox consider a handheld gaming console. It will fit nicely in the safe when not in use.
  9. Hi and welcome to CC (Cruise Critic). It would be helpful if you could give us some information about flying: For example, are you willing to fly and where are you willing to fly to? We like Norway. We are a non flying family (for medical reasons) and sail out of Southampton. We have found Norway is more wheelchair friendly than some other countries we have sailed to.
  10. Another vote for not sailing with Virgin. I'm not sure if the production company deliberately edited the show or if the passengers were just that laid back but there was no complaints. Two excursions were ruined; 1 due to a power cut and another due to the family not being told that they could ring for a private shuttle. Both family's did not seem to mind but I would be angry.
  11. If your friend has a scooter and needs a step free bathroom then book an accessible cabin. As long as your friend fills in Royal's special needs form then she/he should not be moved from the cabin.
  12. We found a blue duck on Anthem May 2022
  13. Hi, my son uses a wheelchair so I hope some of my points will be useful. Embarkation Day: You can ask for wheelchair assistance ( this is where a staff member pushes the wheelchair user through check in and on to the ship) but consider if you need it. On our last cruise, May 2022, people were waiting up to 2 hours for wheelchair assistance. Theatre: There is wheelchair places at the back of the theatre. These space are for people who are either wheelchair bound or just want to sit in their chair's. Normally only 1 person is allowed to sit next to the wheelchair user. If you all want to sit together the other family members can sit on the back row in front of the wheelchair space. Port Days: There is always a staff member by the gangplank to push wheelchairs users on/off the ship. Depending on the steepness of the gangplank we sometimes push the chair ourselves particularly if there are other chair users waiting. Lifts: You can struggle to get a wheelchair in to a lift/elevator at busy times (end of theatre shows etc). My advice is don't let anyone who gets impatient wait with the wheelchair uses.
  14. If you book an accessible cabin Royal, normally, sends out a special needs form that the passenger is suppose to fill out and return to Royal. One of the questions on the form does ask if anyone in the cabin uses a wheelchair /scooter.
  15. Email shorexaccess@rccl.com they will tell you if RCI offer wheelchair/scooter friendly tours for your holiday.
  16. We were on the Explorer, pre covid. An office came to check if we actually needed the accessible cabin that we had booked. I know this because the officer told me. I don't know if the officer was checking on just us or if he was checking all the accessible cabins.
  17. Every cruise line has dedicated special needs department for disabled guests. Email this department with the details of your cruise; i.e. date of cruise; ship and your reservation number and they will email you a list of suitable wheelchair friendly excursions, if there is any.
  18. I also do as @Broons77 has written. I do strip the bed on the rare occasions that the diaper/liner combo fails and place the wet sheet in the shower. As my son is doubly incontinent if there is a partially horrible smelling pad I take the pad to the nearest public restroom and dispose of the pad in the baby diaper bin.
  19. Email Royal using special_needs@rccl.com.
