Assuming you are flying in, there is a good chance you'll effectively drive past where you would walk on the way from the airport to the hotel, so you should have a sense of it.

Oh great, I also thought that I'd have a look the day before as I'm staying at the Courtyard next to it. I see there are stairs to the road with a path. If I don't feel it's for me then I'll arrange a ride. I hear people saying that it is not safe to walk anywhere in Baltimore which is too bad as I was also hoping to walk over to the Fort McHenry National Monument, I enjoy walking.  Thanks again for your help.

I did not - the weather was awful the day I left.

My gut would be it is probably doable, but I probably wouldn't. There are sidewalks, but it didn't look like there were crosswalks. It was a cheap Lyft that came right away. And embarking in Baltimore is super easy and fast (at least for Royal).

Okay, thanks for the reply. I think it will be a game day decision for me.

I am on Enchantment of the Seas in December, and am staying at the Courtyard in McHenry Row. The website suggests you can walk to the cruiseport from there, but Google Street view makes that look - questionable. It seems like there are sidewalks, but is there a pedestrian entrance? I'm from Boston, so I'm aware that the weather may make walking undesirable, but assuming it's a clear day and there isn't snow and ice on the ground, is walking feasible, or should I just plan on taking a Lyft?

I'm doing the exact same in February, can I ask if you ended up walking to the port?

We only book b2b's if we can get the same cabin...

Would absolutely agree with this. While some people don't mind changing cabins, the true meaning of a B2B for us is same ship, same cabin. That way, we don't have any stress about moving anything at all. Also on turnaround day, we give our cabin steward the morning off (put the Do Not Disturb card/sign out) and just ask for evening service; they are so busy so having one less cabin to clean is a nice gesture. 😊

thank you...I have tried it all...now really have lost hope...

Awww. That happened to us as well. We met some lovely couples on various cruises, kept up for a while, and then life interrupted and we all lost track. Try not to be too hurt or take it personally - often, something happens on their end which is not your fault at all (death, illness, divorce, a move, etc.).  Sometimes this just happens.

Enjoy your memories and wish them well in your heart. I do believe you have tried everything to find them but without a last name, this seems next to impossible.

I pay no attention to the negative Nancys (Karens?) - every journey begins with a single step....

Yes, and my hope is that a single step will be to stop labelling the legitimate Karens as troublemakers. 🤣

Seriously, Alaska is beautiful and it was the last cruise we had to cancel before Covid (family vacation with our grown children, so excited!), BUT - you would not find us on a cruise ship in 2021 to any destination. Even with the vaccines, the closed borders, and quarantine upon returning, it will still take time.

  7. I believe this is a valid question.

For starters, do you know how dirty, germy, and disgusting our purses get? Yuk. I barely want to think about it. 🤪 This is why I never put my purse on the table. I understand about not wanting to hang it off the chair - I mean in Europe for instance, doing this invites purse snatchers and pick-pockets. Having said that, I don't want to put it on the floor either. So with my cross-body bag, I tie the strap in a knot and hang it on my leg just above my knee. It's not the perfect solution, but no one can really see it that way, and I always know where it is. 😊

That means we will not see many of our snow birds here. The CAD’s seem to like this area (Daytona Beach/Ormond Beach/Palm Coast/New Smyrna/Port Orange/Holly Hill).

Our RV parks are completely full already with Canadian snow birds who cannot drive to Florida this year.

As sad as we are that we cannot cross the border, we are glad that it is closed. We think it's the right move at this time, given the ferocious spread of this virus. We miss our cross-border shopping and eating, but will get back there eventually. 😊

We always stay at the Wyndham Bayside, it's right across the street from the port and quite central.

Us too.  Walk to Little Italy for dinner, walk to drug store or grocery store if need be, walk to the pier in the morning. We paid a little more to be in the tower - great view.

  10. Not sure if your plans are set in stone, but having sailed both ships, I thought I'd weigh in. Ovation to Alaska was our most recent (and probably last ever) cruise. Everything about it was fantastic, from the ship itself, food, service, ports, experience, weather, etc. I realize some of those are variable, but we had a blast and did NOT think Ovation was too large for Alaska. On the contrary, we enjoyed having something to do on sea days. The ship is glorious and we would sail on her again in a heartbeat.

Emerald Princess - well, we spent nine days aboard her some years ago and can't give the same glowing review. Honestly, we were still trying to find our way around on Day 8 - yes, really. The food in the dining room was excellent (buffet, not so much) as was the service, but we found ourselves bored and a bit frustrated. Yes, I know Alaska is not necessarily about the ship but for us, we enjoyed being able to enjoy the ship on sea days and in the evenings on Ovation. Emerald did not provide us with the same experience, regardless of different itineraries.

There is no one ship, line, or itinerary for everyone and I'm so glad we have a choice in this big ol' world. You asked for opinions, and this is mine. 😊

I dint think you can shorten them, it’s either on or off.

NOT an improvement, in my opinion. I liked the option to expand the sig if desired but I definitely do not want to hide all signatures. I may have to, though. So many, including mine, are long and the way it used to be was better, at least.

... If you have a fear or are in the high risk category, stay home.  The rest of us choose to live life.

I think you probably mean well with your comment, but those of us who are in the high risk category WANT to live life as we used to, but cannot. I sincerely hope you never get cancer because this pandemic has absolutely stolen the limited amount of time I have left. I wish I could go on a cruise - I wish I could go anywhere - but sadly, I do have to stay home. I would politely ask that you show a little grace for those of us who cannot choose.

Ignoring the problems that Covid is causing, the absolute best way would be to fly to Seattle and spend 2 weeks driving to Seward.  It is only 2500 miles and is a really great drive....

Even with your disclaimer, what you are suggesting is not possible at this time. Maybe some day - -  but at the moment the border is closed to non-essential travel and people have been turned around when they tried to enter Canada. IF one was permitted to cross with the intention of driving to Alaska, they are issued an "in-transit" pass and must go directly to Alaska, no sight seeing, no dilly-dallying. Many tourists were fined this past summer for sight-seeing on their way to Alaska.

I realize you said this is the "best way" and in a perfect world it would be an exceptional drive, but I didn't want OP to think s/he could actually do this anytime soon. 🙂

  14. So many interesting replies in this thread; agree with some, SHM on others (and that's OK!). 😂 We have travelled quite a bit and have seen some amazing places. I guess for me, one of the most underwhelming places was Grand Canyon. It just wasn't fabulous, for me. It was a nice time of year, it wasn't overly crowded, the weather was lovely... it just didn't thrill me. Same trip - what DID thrill me was Bryce Canyon!!! AMAZING and so much prettier and more scenic than Grand Canyon. Glorious.💕
