  1. We were very happy with the tours and the food- lunch was our favorite! Regional foods which we loved trying, a pasta option each day, fresh soups and breads, always fruit and cheese and salads. And a wonderful dessert bar. (Don't miss the fresh ice cream each day. OH MY! I miss it!) Of course the sit down dinner each night had several choices, as well. We were never hungry! 🙂 The tours were very interesting. If you do a search on here, there is a wonderful trip report done by a member with each day/tour detailed. I found it to be most helpful when planning. I loved our AMA rep and she was very helpful at every stage of planning!
  2. Great choice! The AmaDouro is a beautiful ship. I always love to read about the Douro because there was very little information about it when we were planning our cruise- probably because it is a smaller ship on a smaller river. (As it turns out, this is one of the reasons why we ended up enjoying it so much. We got to know most everyone sailing and we made real friends that we keep in touch with). We sailed AmaDouro in June and we can't wait to do another! The Lisbon precruise was a great addition and we almost didn't do it but were so happy that we did. Happy to answer any questions!
  3. I have wondered the same. We were invited on our cruise and while I suspected it was thanks to our AMA rep, she didn't confirm (nor deny!) it when I asked! Curious if anyone else knows the protocol?
  4. Many thanks for this wonderful review, SC! I am so happy to see so much info on the cruise and the Vida! I have many questions and haven't had a lot of luck finding answers so this is much appreciated! (If there are other places I should be looking for information, do advise!) I am so new here that I didn't realize members can't send messages to other members? (Or am I missing something?) I had a few questions for you SC that I had hoped to message but looks like I will have to do so here? We are debating the pre-tour package in Lisbon. How many did you have on your pre-tour group? We are also looking at staying in Porto after the cruise! Is your B&B one you would share info on?
  5. Garf, we are looking at June 2019 on AMA, as well. I am new to this site and having trouble locating info/roll call and so on. (Though I realize the ships don't hold many and the Vida will be new so this probably impacts existing information!). Any other place I should look for info or helpful tips?
  6. Very good point- I didn't think of it that way! Thank you!
  7. We are looking at AMA for our first river cruise and have loved the customer service thus far! I love to hear about the flexibility but wonder if this will be true in busy season? (June) Any idea?
  8. Would love to hear from anyone who has done the Douro cruise! And the 3 day pretour in Lisbon?
  9. Thanks for the reply, LTC! Appreciate it. Leaning toward AMA for our Douro cruise!
  10. When you say TA do you mean an AMA consultant or a personal travel agent? I have had great rapport with our AMA consultant in my researching our first river cruise.
  11. We are in final stages of researching Douro cruise for next summer and are aware there will be fair amount of bussing. Can anyone speak to the quality of the busses used by AMA and Emerald? We assume they will be nice with AC and outlets for charging but you know what they say about assuming! (Viking states more about their busses so I thought I would ask about AMA and Emerald since those are the 2 we are looking at for 2019). Many thanks!
