  1. We are celebrating our 49th anniversary with this cruise. I'm OK getting the big upgrade a year before our 50th!
  2. We have some friends who decided to join us on "South Pacific and Land Down Under," which we booked a year ago. They booked the cruise at the end of July and are first time cruisers on Viking. After booking a V2 guaranteed cabin, they were upgraded today to a DV2! They didn't realize how lucky they were until I told them. This will be our 3rd Viking cruise and we have another one booked. We thought that we were fortunate to be upgraded from V2 to DV4 in May. 99 days before we sail away!
  3. Andy, have you been able to get XPF at a bank? We had no luck with our local bank.
  4. Can you tell me which cruise this was for and the number of days? Thanks
  5. We just booked a cruise for May 2021 and I requested the full payment to be 6 months prior to the departure date. This was granted immediately.
  6. Just found this information online: https://www.immigration.govt.nz/new-zealand-visas/apply-for-a-visa/about-visa/visitor-visa#https://www.immigration.govt.nz/new-zealand-visas/apply-for-a-visa/tools-and-information/general-information/visa-waiver-countries/slider
  7. If you are wandering the boat, could you let me know if there are any crew access or storage room doors opposite 3027? Any idea of how much movement from waves on the open ocean in this part of the ship? Enjoy your cruise!
  8. Yes, Salt Spring Island is a great place to spend spring, summer and fall. Just looking at the map and locations of hotels in Sydney. Holiday Inn is fairly pricey at this time, but will continue to watch for deals. Are there other areas that are interesting for 1 1/2 days in Sydney? How about Rushcutters, Darling Harbour ...etc.? We are OK with using public transportation, but don't want to spend all day on trains or buses. Thanks for your input.
  9. We are going to be in Sydney after our cruise ends next February. Can you recommend an area that is convenient to the sights and also transportation to the airport? It looks like there is a rapid transit option from the city to the airport. We will have about a day and a half to explore prior to our flight which leaves at 3:45 pm. If you know of specific hotels that are reasonably priced, we would also appreciate any suggestions. Thanks
  10. This site might be useful for walking tours of cities. https://www.gpsmycity.com/ I printed out the description of the walk and the map for Livorno . We did the walk on our own while docked there. It took a couple of hours and was easy to follow. There are many other city tours offered. You can also download walking tours of some major cities from the Rick Steves site.
  11. Perhaps a possibility for you, but at 2:30 a.m. I did not feel comfortable approaching 4 intoxicated people . Thought that it was the job of security or guest services to deal with this.
  12. I also use earplugs, but the noise was still well above a level that allowed me to sleep. Yes, we were fortunate to be moved, as we were told that this was the only cabin available on the ship.
  13. We had the very unfortunate issue of being next to very inconsiderate neighbors. They obviously had another couple visiting in their room with them on the first night and the partying went on until at least 2:30 a.m. At one point I thought that there might be a medical emergency, as we heard a woman screaming, but it later turned into very loud laughing. We didn't complain, as we thought that this behavior was just due to the excitement of the first night. The second night was quiet. On the third night we had a repeat performance of the first night, so I called security,2:15 a.m. After the phone rang next door the noise level went down a bit, but didn't end until about 3 a.m. The next morning after our early tour off the ship, we visited customer services on level 1. When we revisited them at about 3 p.m. The second person looked up the record of our previous visit and found that an alternate cabin had been found for us. As it was a lower level than the one we were in, I suggested that the people causing the problem should be moved. Apparently this was not possible, so we moved. We were most appreciative of the two people in customer service who assisted us. We were told that the guests who were so inconsiderate were "very young." I don't believe that this is an excuse for inappropriate behavior.
  14. Sun had drawers in the closet on DV. Lots of room for 2 of us on a 13 day cruise in December.
  15. Was the DV a guaranteed cabin or assigned earlier and then upgraded for $199/pp?
