  1. I have been getting it all the time over the last few weeks.  I find if I clear out my browser history i can get back in, at least for a few days.  I sent an email to Celebrity but heard nothing.  Like most cruise lines, their website leaves a lot to be desired.

  2. We are sailing on Solstice on December 22 so I just called Celebrity to inquire about this issue and they forwarded me to a third party to answer my question.  I intend to get the visas for my family on my own ($25 for single entry and $50 for multiple entry).  My question was whether I needed the single entry or multiple entry visa.  The woman I spoke with today told me that Celebrity would get the visa for us.  When I asked what they charge she didn't know.  I asked if I had to buy the visa from Celebrity and she said no.  I am guessing there is a healthy mark up on the charge for the visa.  She did tell me that we only need a single-entry visa as we are visiting the Vietnamese ports consecutively.  Not entirely sure I trust the information provided but I will keep looking.

Advantages/Problems/Comments:     Loved the Infinite Verandah.  We had four people in the cabin (two teenage boys) and the extra room afforded by having the balcony as part of our cabin really helped.  Our cabin was mid-ship and the location was great.  I was concerned about being right by the elevators but they have configured the elevators horizontal to the cabins so there is a sound block between them and the cabins so we benefited by having a great mid-ship location near the elevators with no sound issues.

Would You Book It Again?: Yes

  4. Can anyone who has been on the Millenium since it was refurbished tell me if they added king sized beds to the staterooms like the Edge?  I can’t imagine there is enough room to have done this but I haven’t been able to find the answer.  Thanks for your help.

  5. We have tried all of the speciality dining restaurants on the Solstice Class ships.  Everyone is right that the speciality dining is very subjective.  We have loved Murano.  We are not big fans of Tuscany or Qsine, but again recognize that this is very subjective.  Qsine simply was too much food and, in our opinion, tried to do too much.  Italian is our favorite cuisine, but we did not think Tuscan was special, other than the amazing wake view from a table by the window.  We try to celebrate special occasions at Murano, which we both think stands up with fine dining on land.  We are going on the Edge on June 5th and are looking forward to trying La Petite Chef at the Bistro.  We have been told that the new steak house is great and that the meal at Eden is original and delicious.  We will probably try the steak house or Eden, in addition to La Petite Chef.

With all that said, we think the main dining rooms on Celebrity are usually good and it is hard to spend $200 for the family to dine at a speciality restaurant when dinner in the main dining room is part of our cruise fare and is delicious.  WE will send our son and his friend to dinner in the dining room when we want to try a nice dinner at Murano.  On this cruise we are all going to La Petite Chef as it looks original and special and our son and his friend think it looks cool.

Enjoy your cruise and know that there is no wrong decision.

  6. My family is traveling on the Edge on June 5th and there will be 4 of us in an infinite verandah.  With the tight quarters my wife and I are thinking about booking the Thermal Suite pass for the 10 days.  One of the reasons we are thinking of this is that we hoped there would be showers in the suite that would allow the two of us to shower in the Thermal Suite so that we could have the boys shower in the cabin.  I have watched videos and know there is a very cool shower room in the Thermal Suite but it does not look like a place for a regular shower.  Can anyone who has been on the Edge let me know if there is a regular shower area in the Thermal Suite?

    Thanks for your help.

  7. In our experience the drink package is not good value; however, this is purely a math/quantity issue.  We have done the drink package on Celebrity and other lines when they are included as a perk.  It is nice not to have to think about the mounting costs of each drink, and to simply order what you want, when you want.  We paid for a drink package on one cruise and it was a big mistake for us.  We simply couldn't drink enough to make the package worthwhile, and even found ourselves ordering a drink in order to get value, when we did not really want one.  It simply depends on how much you drink each day, including alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverage.  At about $50 a day for the classic package you need to drink a lot.  We love espresso/cappucino's, bottled water, wine with dinner and a cocktail most nights and we never got close to the $50 per day amount, over the length of the cruise.  We spent about $800 for the drink package (including the tip added to the packet) for a week, and drank about $350 of beverages of all kinds.  Since you are going on a transatlantic you will likely get a much better value as you are getting drinks each day, while we were off the ships every day, except for 2 sea days, and only really drinking at night, other than a morning coffee. Even if you drink 4 alcohol drinks at day at $9 each you are still $14 short of the $50 per day charged for the package.  Add in a coffee drink and a couple of bottles of water and you are close to the $50 per day for the drink package.  As I said, I would estimate how much you normally drink a day on vacation and do the math.  I know our friends love the drink package, but they drink more than we do.  We have cruised enough that we know we simply can't get the value from the package.

  8. We are on the Edge on the Western Med in early June next year and our 14 year old basketball playing son is bummed that there will not be a sport court as he and our friends' son played on the Reflection every day in 2017 and were looking forward to more hoops on the Edge.  When I told him he took it in stride and said that it's okay as there will be so much to do onboard and in Europe.

  9. We are sailing on silhouette next week. Last year when we sailed on silhouette we were able to disconnect the hdmi cable from the ship tv service and use our own hdmi cable for our devices. We plan on bringing our switch this trip as well.

This is so funny. I can’t wait to tell our son and his friend that there are other people bringing their HDMI cable and hoping to be able to use their Switches. He and his buddy love NBA2K and are hoping to play it at night before bed

  10. In an effort to provide all of our guests with the best possible web experience, we are limiting traffic to our new site at this time so we can test in a controlled environment. This will allow us to learn and get feedback from a small population of users as well as rectify any disruptive issues.

Thank you for the heads up. I went into my reservation for an upcoming cruise and when I hit manage my reservation all I can do is check in. There was no way for me to review or book excursions, dining, etc.

  11. We have cruised many times on both lines and while we like HAL we prefer Celebrity's ships, especially the Solstice class. People say that HAL's cruisers are general older but I find that the average age on board depends greatly on when you are cruising. We are in our early 50's and have a 12 year old. He has thoroughly enjoyed both HAL and Celebrity. Celebrity's décor is more modern and less traditional than Holland. We find the service on HAL to be outstanding as the staff are so friendly and helpful.

For a family cruise I would recommend Celebrity as there seem to be more activities for families onboard their ships. Holland's activities are less geared towards families. We have heard that RCL and Carnival are more suited to families, but I have seen many reviews where families post that their kids enjoyed Celebrity better than RCL. I think is it wholly dependent on your kids. If they like a climbing wall, surf simulator, etc. then RCL is probably the best bet. If they are happy with a pool and port activities then Celebrity and HAL are great options.

  12. Just wanted to follow up on my original post. I spoke with Celebrity and they say the cruise is sold out. I called my travel agent and he says that the only thing available are Sky Suites. When I spoke with the Celebrity representative he said that there was loads of inventory, then hesitated, and then said he would need to call me back, at which time he told me the ship was sold out. Since we are not looking for a suite we will hold off and see what happens.

    Happy sailing to you all.

  13. Commodore Cruise Lines MS Caribe was my first cruise in about 1977. My sister and I loved the cruise to the Caribbean, but the truth is that the ship was small, the ports were poverty stricken messes and my parents couldn't wait to get off. Now, over 35 years later, my parents have cruised round the world 9 times, and my sister and I have a passion for cruising.

  14. My first cruise was about 1976 aboard the MS Caribe (Commodore Cruise Line) out of Miami to the Caribbean. I was only 11 and I went with my parents and younger sister. My sister and I loved the cruise. My parents, rightfully so, hated it. I just pulled up pictures of the ship and can't believe how old it looks. The four of us were squeezed into a porthole cabin. We stopped in Haiti (poverty was crazy), Puerta Plata and Montego Bay. The best thing on board were the cheeseburgers by the pool. I remember there were a couple of days when the seas were really rough and my father and I would run to the grill for burgers for the my mom and sister. I won the putting contest. My poor parents were miserable but the kids loved every minute. Not to worry though, my parents will be taking their 5th World Voyage on HAL this January and probably have 700 days at sea with HAL, Princess and Celebrity. I was married onboard the Grand Princess in 2000. We cruise every year and our four year old will be going on his 4th cruise this October/November. I didn't take my second cruise until 1998, but we've been hooked ever since.

  16. We just got back from 10 day Mexican Riviera cruise on the Golden Princess. We had a great cruise; however, I recommend you avoid Emerald 514 if you are a light sleeper. We booked this outside cabin without a balcony because we were concerned about having a balcony with our 2 1/2 year old on board. We have cruised many times and thought the balcony could pose a danger. In retrospect this was an unfounded fear. The plexiglass made it impossible for our son to climb over the railing. Anyway, due to our fear we booked this standard outside cabin. The cabin was on deck 8, one deck above the lounges in the middle of the ship. Every night, until midnight, we could hear the bass player in the band in the lounge below our cabin. In addition, we tendered into port 3 out of 4 ports and wouldn't you know the lifeboat right outside our room window was used for every port. It sounded like a plane was going to crash through our window every morning at about 6:00 a.m.

We politely complained to the Purser's Desk and they said they would investigate. Nothing changed. However, on day 5 of our 10 day cruise a balcony cabin opened up and we were moved by Princess up 2 decks. They handled the matter as best they could. I would only suggest that cruise lines simply disclose noise issues, like they do obstructed views so passengers could make up their own mind on where to stay. The cabin should have been discounted due to the noise, no different than one with an obstructed view. Regardless, Princess handled the matter well and kept me a loyal customer.
