Seabourn is pushing group travel and charters
Utopia1 replied to SLSD's topic in Seabourn Cruise Line
Seabourn cancelled the last 35 days of the 2024 world cruise. We learned about the cancellation while on the cruise (it was due to crisis in the Red Sea) Seabourn was very fair and handled this situation exceptionally well. I can only hope that this fair and caring treatment continues in the future. -

How far in advance does Seabourn cancel segments due to a charter? I am booked on MANY back to backs for many months and the thought of being cancelled in the midst is alarming. -

I've noticed the large groups are usually on 7-14 day segments. I found that multi generational families are seldom a problem. -

I agree with SLSD--- Large groups just by their number and familiarity are noisier and insensitive to others near them. My other objection is that people save large seating areas for their group which changes the ambiance of the area they occupy. Small ships are not meant for large groups. -
Perrier and Evian are another reason to upgrade to the Ultimate package.

Is breakfast still served in Aqualina for suite guests?

I believe this roll call has reinforced our opinions as we have expressed them. It has shown me how others view this topic. For me that has been an education.
-
in the past when I liked a wine I took a photo of the wine served and requested it again. My request has always been granted.
-
Thank you for the information - I'm on your cruise and delighted to know we are docked there 😀..

perhaps Saminina is correct-- but I took it as a judgmental opinion. I have never heard of the unwritten rule you speak of------- This year I will reach Diamond Elite-- IF this is an unwritten RULE it should be publicized so that people like me will know better. I learned about the crew fund on my second Seabourn cruise and have always participated since. However, it does gives me such pleasure to express my appreciation to crew I have gotten to know either at the end of their contract or the end of my cruise. What is the difference of giving them a gift they have to pack or giving them a gratuity? Why is this is so bad?
-
I do not want to be told how, or how not to spend my money. (within the boundaries of rules and local laws) There are no rules on Seabourn governing tipping-- it is not expected. I don't understand why this is an issue--- do what you like.
-
We have never had the experience of a Seabourn crew member refusing a gratuity. They have always expressed appreciation. Perhaps the person whose gratuity was not accepted was looking for special attention.
-
It brings personal pleasure to some people to extend their appreciation in the form of gratuities and contributing to the crew fund. I've noticed that the people who are negative about gratuities are the people who choose not to give them. We all know that gratuities are not required or expected. IMO there isn't a right or wrong answer to giving or not giving gratuities-- it should be what you are comfortable doing and not judging others by what they do.

Are Aft suites on Pursuit 8071 and 8069 very noisy?
-
There will be 3 cruise ship docking in Marseille July 14 The Pursuit docks at 8 am The Costa Toscana and MSC Orchestra are both scheduled to dock at 9 am With all this information I still don't know where we dock-- the smaller ships usually dock at the port closer to town. It is a lovely walk into town You might want to check the Marseille port schedule.
-
You must check to see which port--- last year I was on for several back to back cruises (on another cruise line). the first time I walked to the town from the ship== the second time it was a shuttle bus into town.

Seabourn is pushing group travel and charters
Utopia1 replied to SLSD's topic in Seabourn Cruise Line
The letter from Seabourn regarding large groups and charters really alarmed us. Until now I was concerned about a consolidator who books large groups on Seabourn for appealing rates. These groups usually stand our because of their behavior. My concern is we have booked multiple back to back cruises (for several months) and if a group decides to charter in the midst of the back to backs--- what happens to us? Is Seabourn in survival mode? This letter really upset us because Seabourn is our #1 cruise line-- and until now never thought of looking elsewhere. -
I do tip and contribute to the crew fund== not get get an extra ice cube in my drink or an extra wash cloth in my room- but rather my way of showing appreciation. IMO it isn't a right or wrong thing to do, but rather doing what makes me feel good.

Luggage Forwarding services, yea or nay. Our nightmare....
Utopia1 replied to shark b8's topic in Seabourn Cruise Line
I've haven't experienced any problems-- EXCEPT One new piece of luggage recently came back from Barbados damaged. I immediately e mailed photos of the damage and a receipt for the suitcase to Luggage Forward.. Within 24 hours they offered me a refund for the bag or a replacement. I received the exact bag within one week from the place I purchased it The only negative I find is the restrictions of the items that you are permitted to pack. I wouldn't hesitate shipping to/from any port that they ship to. -
I was on the Ovation transatlantic November 19-- the cruise was great- not crowded- service was great. We were surprised because even Thomas Keller wasn't busy and we were able to dine there almost any night without an advance reservation.

Yes--Art/craft classes are usually offered twice a day when there are many sea days

I am looking at suite 748 on the Quest. It is below the pool. Does anyone know if it is very noisy in the morning and at night when they are moving chairs?
