Not a ton of great options. I'm pretty sure the only legal place where you don't have a chance of getting the car towed is at the airport (which would require an Uber or taxi to get back to the ship each way). If at all possible try and rent for one day, even if you drop off after hours or at the airport which is 24/7. Folks do roll the dice and park overnight at the mall across from the port entrance but you run the risk of getting the car towed.

Yes you can. It will take you about 20-25 minutes dragging bags though-- bit of a zig zag until you get to Ala Moana Blvd.

Agree with above-- 2 nights in Venice. You'll thank yourself for having the one full day. Trieste has its charms but nothing even remotely close to Venice, especially if you haven't been before.

Ubers are pretty reliable in and around Kahului. There will be a bunch of taxis too-- might just be easier hailing an Uber in the app.
-
And even if they have bigger bags-- for the price of a drink or lunch (and a nice tip to the bellman) places like the Fairmont, Shutters on the Beach, Casa del Mar, The Georgian, Loews (I guess now called the Regent), etc all right there would be more than happy to check their bags for a few hours.

There isn't a choice but the OP can use her Global Entry in preclearance.

You have to clear entering the EU. Usually not very time consuming as a US citizen but its a variable you need to consider here since your timing is tight. The good news is your onward trip to Rome is a "domestic" flight. Only helps you coming back into the US. If you fly through Dublin again on the way back you can preclear and arrive into the US as a domestic passenger. Otherwise you'll clear immigration on landing in the US. Are you booked on 1 ticket through to Rome and on the same airline? If so then the bags will continue onto Rome. If not you'll have to claim them before immigration and recheck in Dublin.

If you go to any major city and sort by "traveler ranking" and scroll down the list, usually it is well regarded mid level and budget hotels that are on top and the 5 star properties are towards the bottom of the top 20. Totally agree with you-- people grade a little harsher when they are paying top dollar. But that doesn't mean that the nicer property doesn't blow others with higher ratings out of the water.

No. Ride share can pick you up in front of the pier. Some folks recommend walking around the corner and a little bit down to expedite things as the area right in front can be very busy, but they can still pick you up there. They can also drop you directly at your terminal at Logan. There is a special pick up area there for ride share but the drop offs are right at the terminal.

It's tight. The good news is you are only about 10 minutes door to door from Port Everglades to FLL. If the ship clears on time and you are among the first off with self help disembarkation, carrying your own bags off, then you could reasonably expect to be at the airport by 8-8:15. Enough time to pull it off but everything has to go perfectly.

Private car service between Athens & Pireaus port
princeton123211 replied to LinInDel's topic in Greece Ports
We use an app called Blacklane extensively through Italy and Greece and have always had great experiences. They work with the top private companies in town-- all payment is done through the app and things like gratuity is included. You also don't pay the high commissions booking it through your hotel would involve. You can select Mercedes E Class, S Class, or a larger Merc van. The E Class option was only 68 Euro from central Athens to the port which I thought was very reasonable especially since it included taxes and gratuity. -
Assuming disembarking San Pedro and then flying from LAX? There are a ton of possible port/airport combos here so confirming which one would help folks give you a suggestion. If it is the above, personally I would take a car to Santa Monica for lunch somewhere nice with a little walk around and then a quick Uber to the airport.

Just know what you're getting and you'll be fine. Carmel and Dial7, which are the two bigger companies in NYC, don't own or operate their fleets. They are third party aggregators. They tend to be the right blend of quality and price. Most, if not all, of these drivers also drive for Uber and Lyft as well within their respective car's category (X, Black, etc). Sometimes you can schedule Carmel and Dial7 in advance for less than you can an Uber. Sometimes Uber is less than your scheduled price for Carmel/Dial7 if you request the car when you arrive and don't have a reservation. Just depends. Generally Carmel is reliable and clean-- nothing fancy but usually priced right. If you need a brand new car or specialized service a local brick and mortar car service or a company like Blacklane will provide that for a premium to Carmel.

I wouldn't call tripadvisor the definitive authority. Lots of people with small issues they make to seem catastrophic and a bunch of petty competitors put up bad reviews. We've stayed at the Royal Hawaiian close to 20 times over the past 15 years and it's consistently very good.

Transfers from Los Angeles and San Diego
princeton123211 replied to Cruiseyone's topic in West Coast Departures
Blacklane is what I frequently use in Southern California-- they are reliable and of high quality. You can use something like UberX which MAY cost less (not always) but will be in a car that is of much less quality than Blacklane. Its a gamble but you can sometimes do better on their prices with Uber. As said above- absolute rubbish. I was just there 2 weeks ago to catch a train. Not only is it safe its actually very beautiful architecturally and an attraction in LA of its own right. The area from the trains to the curb where you could get an Uber or car service is well patrolled. If you are looking at lowering your costs, and not renting a car which is the obvious solution, I think the train would by far be the best option. The Greyhound Bus option frankly is far more "dangerous" than Union Station is. -
Its technically possible but you'd have to be very strategic. It's about a half hour each way once you're in the taxi to the city center. It could take you up to an hour to get through immigration and then out to a taxi. You'll have to be back at the airport a couple hours before the next flight to go back through security etc. You might have an hour to an hour and a half downtown. If it were me I would pick somewhere nice for an early lunch in a central area that you might have a few minutes to walk around. A possible way to do this could be hiring a driver by the hour for a few hours, It will get you into Dublin and back and might be able to do a little impromptu tour on the way to or from the airport. It will cost a lot more than just taking taxis but you could get some of your very limited time back.

Quebec City excursions from cruise port
princeton123211 replied to SeaBunny's topic in Canada/New England
Also keep in mind that Viator isn't an actual tour company-- its an aggregator like Expedia is for flights and hotels. Most of the time you can get a better deal and more flexibility dealing with the tour companies directly rather than booking through Viator. -
France Visa needed for Southampton to New York?
princeton123211 replied to th1054's topic in British Isles/Western Europe
Whom you can't get in touch with because they are all outsourced by the cruise lines. Ultimately Cunard is responsible for making the decision to allow someone to board or not. But if the OP waits and doesn't get the visa with the hope that it's not necessary, this cannot be rectified pierside. -
France Visa needed for Southampton to New York?
princeton123211 replied to th1054's topic in British Isles/Western Europe
I've seen this in other ports-- the ship is not considered to be contained like an airport. Once the ship enters the territorial waters of where it is visiting everyone is considered entering that country. Border control organizations from country to country have control of their respective airports. Not the same with a separately operated ship of different nationality. -
France Visa needed for Southampton to New York?
princeton123211 replied to th1054's topic in British Isles/Western Europe
I wouldn't think its "false" unless you were overstaying the visa. In this case, if you put the next day as the departure date, they're not going to be upset that you left the day before. They'd only take issue if you overstayed it. -
France Visa needed for Southampton to New York?
princeton123211 replied to th1054's topic in British Isles/Western Europe
Generally they are going to need a Schengen Visa. You are entering French territorial waters and and are therefore entering France even if they never get off the QM2. I have not seen this exact example, but I have seen it treated this way in the US and elsewhere in the EU on similar stops. The whole ship needs to be in compliance. You're going to most likely have to seek out an expert or immigration lawyer here regarding a transit visa but I would plan on getting the full visa. Southampton passport control most likely won't be the ones to deny boarding (they don't police Schengen immigration) but Cunard will be the one to enforce this while boarding much like an airline would in a similar situation. My guess is a Chinese national is going to come under significant scrutiny. -
left luggage? can i visit NYC?
princeton123211 replied to cambridgegirl's topic in East Coast Departures
You don't have as much time as you might think. Let's say you are off the ship at 8am-- you'll be in Midtown Manhattan by 9. Most folks are going to tell you to get to JFK 3 hours in advance for an international flight so you would have to leave Manhattan no later than 2, possibly 1:30 if its a weekday. You might actually be well served by hiring a car service by the hour which will take care of your transportation as well as the luggage issue. Carmel and Dial 7 can be as low as $40 per hour for this service and you would essentially need 5-6 hours. You'll have to also pay for tolls and tip but you're looking at something at or slightly above $300 and you can tell them to go anywhere you want to sightsee in NYC and they'll wait for you. What's crazy is this can sometimes be close in cost to a cruise company's transfer as long as you have 2-3 people. -
The sea in November is quite cold. There won't be anyone at the beach and there won't be any beach services-- just to keep in mind.
