  1. I know this thread is really old, but was this ever answered anywhere? I'm cruising in 66 days.
  2. I have heard this about iphones from recent cruisers. I'm going to try it with my daughters in June.
  3. This! Pick and choose the items you want! I'm not much of a bfast person, so I like to grab a few different things.
  4. Following for the southern route responses .......
  5. A lot of people recommend the Holiday Inn Express NE, it's just a mile or so from the port. I haven't stayed there, so I can't comment on it.
  6. I second Metro Diner and Maple St Biscuit! There is also a Denny's on the same road as the airport.
  7. A benefit to living in Florida. Just stay on the ship until they make you leave, lol. I've never actually done that though bc I am ALWAYS in a rush! The one time I sailed from a port 35 mins from my home, I was just in a hurry to get home safe bc I was sooo hungover 😞 The next cruise after that I packed our bags before dinner and went to bed early, lol. But we are finally sailing out of JAX again in June, and I plan to just linger around until the crowds die down.
  8. My sister and brother-in-law still cruise with their grown sons (in their mid-30's), but on the mouse-line. My younger nephew orders buttered noodles in the MDR every night. In NOW time as a grown adult.
  9. When I cruised with my sister a few years ago, she flew in from NY to FLL, and we were cruising out of Miami. I am in FL, so I drove. She was able to get a shuttle from FLL to our hotel. It was a La Quinta, and I think this was it: https://www.wyndhamhotels.com/laquinta/fort-lauderdale-florida/la-quinta-inn-ft-lauderdale-northeast/overview?CID=LC:LQ::GGL:RIO:National:64806&iata=00093796 I then drove us to PortMiami and parked my car at the pier. I remember it was a huge ordeal trying to find a flight and hotel at decent rate, and none of what was found was in Miami and/or had a shuttle. We had the benefit of me driving in and being able to drive to the port. A one-way rental from FLL to PortMiami may be an option? Might be cheaper than Uber or Lyft.
  10. I've never been on any of those ships 😞 It was one of the things I was most looking forward to on Magic in June of 2020...then in August of 2020 ... and I am still waiting for my moment, lol.
  11. I never found pasta on any Carnival cruise I've been on, other than mac n cheese on the kids MDR menu (which is AMAZING, and I always order for myself lol). It's been my only food complaint bc I love pasta! Most kids don't eat vegetables, and the ones they do, are not available. I sometimes struggle to find veggies that I like because the ones offered are always a little too fancy for my palate. My picky 11-year old will eat french fries and bread n butter all day long if I let her, but I won't. I didn't know they had grilled cheese in the deli; that is promising! It didn't sound like the OP's kids went hungry, just that they were disappointed and maybe had the munchies a few times with nothing they wanted.
  12. You have to watch your folio like a hawk! One time I maxed out on my Cheers, but didn't realize until I tried to get a drink at midnight and the bartender let me know I already had 15. So I asked for a diet coke instead. The next day I was denied drink #15 bc I was told that I was already at #15 bc they had counted the diet coke from midnight-ish. First, Cheers resets at 6am, so even if it was rung up as alcohol, I only had 14 drinks after 6am. And second, it was soda, and not sure how they could have messed that up and rung it up as alcohol when they clearly said I couldn't have it. This was before I realized I could track my drinks in the app. So fast forward to my next cruise, and I was on the lookout! We go to brunch in the MDR, and I order a beer. They brought me a mimosa, which I don't like, so I sent it back and asked for my beer. They bring me a beer. Cool. I check my folio and I was charged for 2 alcoholic drinks! I ordered another beer, and i told them they charged me for 2 drinks for one beer. They said they would fix it. I checked my folio again and I was up to 4 drinks! For 2 beers. So I waited until after Brunch and went to customer service to fix it. The line was long af, so I waited until later. FTTF would have been nice in this case. I finally get around to getting to customer/guest services to explain what happened, and that I was just trying to make sure there were no mix-ups like my last cruise. They took off the 2 extra drinks, thank goodness. Moral of the story is you always have to check your folio. We shouldn't have to check it so often, but unfortunately it's necessary.
  13. It is always so sad the first time I hear "you're at XX ..." and for me I always seem to miss 10 and sometimes 11. LOL
  14. I have had it go both ways. Most times I was able to use my Cheers at the coffee shop for an iced latte. One time I had to pay cash. Both times I was charged a little extra port taxes (bc we were back in our homeport). I thought maybe the one time I had to pay cash was because it was passed the cutoff for the day (which I think is 6am), and that was one time that were delayed getting off the ship, so likely hanging around longer.
  15. If you really want the 5th day, then Elation. I love the fantasy class ships, but I love Liberty as well. It does have two extra (free) lunch venues as well - the bbq on the top deck of lido buffet, and Mongolian Wok. If those don't matter, then price and/or location should prevail.
  16. Not me personally, but I have read about college kids that spend a lot of time cruising. They take online classes and do their classwork/homework before lunch and enjoy the rest of the day/evening.
  17. Where are the gates that you can walk out of? I've only been once, and it's been a few years. Going back in June!
