  1. "Preferred" is subjective, I think. I've been on the R class ships before, and I really like the small ship atmosphere.
  2. I think it's near where you were but on the other side.
  3. Thanks for that. I wondered about the gangways. We booked very late, and about all that was left were ocean views on deck 4. We decided to take the chance.
  4. This is the sort of thing that gets filmed on Carnival ships and posted on YouTube. Nice to see O is "equal opportunity." 🙂 (Disclaimer: I have been on Carnival ships where this never happened.) I like the staff-served buffet. They do that on HAL. I don't know exactly how effective it is at controlling disease, but I like the idea that no one is manhandling my food before I get to it.
  5. Did you experience any noise issues from the reception area?
  6. Very nice. Beats an app, in my book.
  7. The best snapper I ever had was in PV. Seafood in Mexico is always delicious.
  8. If the music is performed in a lounge-like theater, socializing would be rude. If the performers are there for "background," then that's a different story. Problem sometimes is that one person might view classical music in general as "background" sound where another views it as a musical performance in its own right. (I'm pretty much in the latter camp.)
  9. Of course, Spanish food and Mexican food are different. My daughter spent a semester studying in Spain and came back a bit of an "expert" on the differences. She's a good cook and learned many Spanish recipes, but she was limited in the authentic ingredients she could get here. I wonder if a traditionally Spanish restaurant would fly on O.
  10. Related note: are there likely to be new excursions added before or after sailing? Likewise, cancellations?
  11. This noise thing seems to be restricted to the Vista, right?
  12. Authentic birria is available all over Southern California (even from fast food drive-thrus.) A local family I know will serve it for celebrations. This family has been local since before California became a state in 1849, so I take the food as the real thing. My favorite taco story is the place in Paris advertising "tacos" which were folded pita bread. I don't object if a cruise ship opens a Mexican restaurant, but I don't have to eat there.
  13. I guess humor is not a feature on this board. Oh well.
  14. It hasn't happened yet. 🙂 It's a rule of thumb--the farther away from the county of origin, the less delicious the food. I guess one learns to put up with the less delicious if that's all that is available. Of course, with the globalization happening in the world, more and more people are leaving their native countries and some of those open restaurants in far flung places (like Vegas?🙂)
  15. I have had some very good tacos in Sacramento.
  16. One thing I never do is eat at a Mexican restaurant outside a border state. Definitely not on a cruise ship.
  17. That's how it was on the lasr R ship I sailed. My pizza friend will not be happy.
  18. The pizza lover traveling with me wants to know about Nautica. The last R class ship I sailed had pizza in a corner of the buffet, sort of like an afterthought. Do they do that on Nautica? Is pizza available at the Waves Grill? Is it available through room service? Can my person get some outside of lunch/dinner hours? Again, thanks for your patient answers to a newbie.
  19. Threads go off here and there... I try to read the whole thing before asking a question.
  20. So let's see if I get this right. I can call O to add the premium drink package and the current SM regular package I have will be credited and amount to only a $30/day cost? (I tried to do this on the website and it didn't work.) If only my husband needs the premium package, I don't also need to get it? We can wait until we are on the ship to decide? (Gosh, that all seems so sensible compared to Princess, etc, where the draconean policies leave one little personal choice.) I may be up to speed with all of this by the time we sail in October! 🙂 I thank all of you for your patient help.
  21. SM question: with the standard SM package, are drinks in the casino while gambling an extra cost? What about just a beer or glass of wine? Would it be worth it to add the premium option just for a situation like this? We are new to O and husband has asked this question.
  22. I was referring to the promotional ad on the website that literally says "free excursions." Obviously nothing is "free" so hence my question.
  23. Newbie on Oceania. I don't understand the excursions part of Simply more. I see there is a credit for excursions, and I assume that makes it "free." I see also that there are reduced prices for SM. Can someone please enlighten me? Many thanks.
  24. ðŸĪĢI think that's illegal on some ships.
