  1. Hi Margie, I love your blog - thank you so much for posting it! It is VERY similar to what we are hoping to do. Did you work with an agency to arrange the car and book the hotels, or did you do it all yourself? If you did it all yourself, how was the work to do so? Thanks!!!!
  2. What does Royal Caribbean consider "specialty beer" that is excluded from the package? For example, we really only drink craft beer, vs Budweiser/Coors, etc. We'll be doing an Alaska cruise, and have heard that they often sell local Alaska craft beer on board. Would those be covered, or is craft beer what is considered "specialty"?
  3. Thanks for the input so far. It looks like RCI is adjusting the Radiance deck plans over the next couple years. When I look at the deck plans for our June 2021 sailing, it shows this cabin with a triangle for a sofa bed, rather than the asterisk for the Pullman. The 9th deck cabins appear to all be a tier above ours, as spa cabins and whatnot. There was one or two cabins on the other side with the triangle as well, I’ll ask my TA if those carry a surcharge.
  4. Thanks - according to the RC deck plan it has a sofa bed?
  5. Hi all, We've gone ahead and made an initial booking on a SB Radiance of the Seas sailing for June 2021. The cabin (balcony) our agent grabbed for us is 1H-8546. Having a sofa bed instead of a pullman is important to us, as we'll have our 8 yr old son with us. Other than that, other thoughts? I'm not quite sure which side this will face when sailing, and what the benefits of either side might be. I am sometimes but not consistently prone to motion sickness, if that matters. I'm also cross-posting this on the Alaska board. Thanks!

  7. Apologies for all of my recent posts, I am knee-deep in planning. We are planning a SB cruise for 2021, and our son will be nearly 10 at the time. We definitely want to do a land-portion prior to the cruise. Are there many kids on the cruise tour options? None of the itineraries I've seen so far are "perfect" so I'm starting to think about the DIY approach for the land. But I also don't want to keep my kid cooped up with just us, if there are typically other kids on the cruise tours that he could hang out with. (Note: I'm going to crosspost this on other boards for the cruise lines and Alaska). Thanks!!!

  11. We've started to plan a family cruise for 2021 for myself, my husband, and our son (will be almost 10 at the time). Must-have aspects are family-friendly ship environment, and a one-way itinerary so we can do a land-tour addition. So far, we've narrowed down to NCL, Princess, and RCI. NCL has what seems to be a short stop in Juneau, only half a day, so I'm leaning toward crossing that one off. In scrutinizing the itineraries, it looks like RCI now has permission to go into Glacier Bay, so the primary difference in itineraries is that RCI stops in Icy Strait Point and Princess stops in Skagway. Skagway seems to be more of a "real" town, but there seem to be more land-tour options that we prefer on RCI. Any thoughts on the value of Icy Strait vs Skagway as a cruise-line determining factor? Between Juneau and Icy Strait Point/Skagway, our excursion emphasis will be on dog-sledding-glacier and whale watching, vs the Yukon trip that I know you can do from Skagway. Thanks!!!!
  12. Thanks Lou - as a complete novice, the main difference in your Alaska trips that I saw was Glacier NP vs the Hubbard attempt (forgive me if there's a third that I didn't see). At this early stage for us we're generally looking for a southbound cruise with inland tour after that works for us with our 8 yo. I'm very curious about your thoughts on RCI's southbound itinerary vs Princess's, since you've been on both those routes (even if you went a different direction).
  13. thanks for posting! Radiance of the Seas of one of the ships/itineraries we're looking at, and we also want to do a Denali land tour. What are your thoughts on pros/cons of doing the tour before or after the cruise?
  14. I read both this report and from your previous trip, thank you so much! We are starting to plan a 2021 trip with our son who will be nearly 10 at the time of the trip. What was your perspective on Princess vs Royal Caribbean (specifically Radiance of the Seas) for the trips you took? Those are the lines we're targeting, so I'm curious as to why you switched to Princess for this trip, etc. Thanks!
