You will be the envy of the others.

And my wife brings that little shaker bottle of sprinkles.. or as I call it Jimmies.

We keep one bag with us that always includes our Passports, cash, medicine and one or so changes of clothes including swimwear.  We take that bag to our room at 1:30.  Our checked baggage arrives later in the afternoon typically.  Hauling luggage is a pain.  We've found that we're fine without the majority of ours for a few hours.  Typically we'll be able to fully unpack once ours arrives prior to going to dinner.

We do the same. We get on as early as possible, usually by noon. We carry one small bag on (leave the others with the baggage handlers) once on we have lunch and weather permitting we change in to our swim suits, grab a drink and our cruise has begun!

I take most of what has already been mentioned plus:

Post it notes and a pencil.  Sometimes I need to write a short note to the cabin steward or my husband.  Travel hand wipes, tissues, lotion, lip balm are a must in my purse.  I have two Relax the Back purses, one large one small that I always take.  It has lots of pockets and zippered areas to store items, even pen/pencil slots.  I bought them in 2000 and was one of the best travel purchases I have ever made.  I take a small purse that has a longer shoulder strap to use on the ship that just holds room key card, cash for the casino, travel size lotion, tissues.  Fanny pack for walking or tours in ports (I know it's dorky but I don't care if I look like a dork).  A small tripod to use for the camera taking videos from the balcony.  Umbrella is a must, one for each person.  Wine bottle opener.  Lanyard for the casino.

All good tips! Thought you would be glad to know that Fanny Packs (now called a waist purse -fanny pack being a crude phrase for our european friends) are back in style! LOL😄

On the extension cord/extra outlets discussion: This will be our 15th cruise and I have never needed extra outlets

  4. When I was planning our post cruise time I thought we would rent a car in Seward and drive to Anchorage. I found that the rental from Seward was VERY expensive! Now we are taking the train from Seward to Anchorage and then renting a car in Anchorage. The car in Anchorage was much more reasonable!

  5. Agree with Puerto Vallarta excursion above and Puerto Vallarta has many beaches.

Cabo also has beaches with excursions or you can go to the Medano Beach area on your own. Medano is where the beach bars are. You can taxi over or there are little boats (panga boats?) that will take you across the bay to the beach.

Check the Mexican Riviera board for these ports.

I also remember a beach excursion being offered in Costa Rica. Also if you are stopping in Nicaragua I have heard there is a man made beach there, but I have not been yet.

  6. Thank you marysb for the great pictures from your trip!

We go Nov. 30 and we are looking forward to 7 sea days! We did a port intensive 10 day Mediterranean cruise and it was tiring!! We loved it but we barely got to enjoy the beautiful ship.

This Panama Canal trip sounds like a perfect balance of interesting ports and sea days. On our sea days we spend a lot of time at the pool with a tropical drink. We also bring the game, Quiddler, with us and sometimes we like to find a vacant area/lounge near a window and play. Hubby works long, hard hours so sea days are heaven for him.

Loving this topic and definitely following.  We are booked on Norwegian Jewel in August 2019.  When I first booked it I thought it was pretty far ahead - now I'm thinking booking 18 months in advance is just right!  Working on putting together excursions and such now.  Appreciate all of the ideas and planning tips.

We are on the Jewel in Aug. 2019 also.

I am a planner and I was surprised that things were already getting booked up for next August.

My other surprise was that I read that it was easy to rent a car and drive yourself from Seward to Anchorage (we are doing north bound) Well it may be easy but the cars are $1000 per day!!! Haha! We will be taking the train 😀

And as to using Global Entry at the airport in Vancouver you must have the card physically with you or they will not allow you to get in the GE line. When we were leaving Vancouver last July the guy behind us was out of luck because while he had his number he did not have the card. Luckily I had read about this on CC prior to leaving on this trip and had ours with us.

Sent from my iPad using Forums

That is good to know. We have global entry but have always just swiped our passport. We have never shown our card before.
