  1. While we used the app, it contained some very odd data. While sailing in Alaska this August, the App said the weather was 135*F/57*C. The next day, it was -8F*/-22*C.
  2. Since they are finally coming to the West Coast and Alaska, did the match and got Princess Platinum = Gold. Now I just wish they had a ship coming over that had the Yacht Club on it!
  3. My wife is a teacher, so we usually only travel when she has time off. Our TA knows this schedule, so he's trying to find more cruises to book for us. He thought this would be nice. I agree, it would be fantastic. However, even an Inside cabin is a bit high for us (more $$ than our already expensive, to us, Alaska cruise), especially when we add in the flights from the West Coast. I'd love to go; I'd just need to make a lot more $$. 🤑 We are only in our 50s, so we have time.
  4. I just checked our Alaska Riviera cruise, and there is no upgrade choice either, just adding Gratuities and/or the full-priced Prestige select at $59.95. I'm guessing it is because we haven't made our final payment yet. We are booked under Simply More. I presume I can upgrade my wife when it's offered? I think she would enjoy mixed cocktails whenever she wanted them.
  5. My TA emailed us that he had early access booking for this cruise. It was a bit too much for us at this time, especially with flights, so we had to decline, but it looked like a lot of fun!
  6. I've found some uploaded pics of 10005, but unsure when in 2024 this sailing took place. The pics all show the older, darker style wood in the suite. Also don't know what the star with wavy lines means either, but this floorplan started in May 2024. 🙄
  7. You have to call to do the GTY versions, I believe. A GTY on the smaller Vista-class ships works great, as SC, SB, or SA are all great picks. I'm not a fan of the SQ at the front on the Pinnacle ships. We've done a GTY SC on our last two Westerdam class cruises and ended up in the same SA cabin at significantly reduced fares, so the gamble can pay off.
  8. We've pre-purchased OBC since we could use the AARP gift cards at a discount rather than pay full price. Who doesn't want to save money?
  9. We did not do the HIA package on our last Alaska cruise as we felt it was unnecessary for our needs. You can always get that Advantage far @Cruise Suzy talked about then add what you want a-la-cart. We added the non-alcoholic package for both, internet for 2, and prepaid gratuities months before embarkation, so they were cheaper than onboard. The wife just paid for any drinks she wanted with OBC.
  10. We've also done Encore and Bliss to Alaska. Both, I believe, were specifically built for Alaska cruising, and I think both have outside ceiling heaters "on the waterfront" restaurants and bars for those chilly days or nights. I would recommend either of these two ships.
  11. For the folks who had used it, does it appear like the below image? (NCL upgrade process) I recall on NCL, you could usually bid up 3 room categories, and that includes sub-categories (IE bid on two types of Club Class Balcony and five types of Haven). I recall lots of folks failing to realize that the bid is per person, and if accepted, it is automatically charged, and you lose your old cabin, so there is no going back.
  12. The casino's close when they are in US waters. This happens to most Alaska cruises out of Seattle as the usually last port stop is Victoria, and you are sailing in territorial waters.
  13. We did a 7-day Thermal Suite pass for two on our last Bliss cruise. Unfortunately, I didn't realize the price quoted was per person, not for two passes. That surprised me, but we still took it. We were on a June cruise, so we appreciated the space as a getaway from all the sailing kids and family groups (we did a lot of reading and relaxing on those cushioned loungers). Bliss had the largest thermal suite in the fleet at the time, as it was very expansive and had many options. I would likely not do it again as the price point was just a bit high for what we used it for.
  14. I am seeing a lot of posts from people decrying the "clickbait" headlines and such. All the cruise/travel bloggers I watch, including Ben and David, hate the YouTube algorithm that promotes and pushes for these types of headlines and thumbnails, and they even have YouTube videos talking about it. We will likely stop cruising with Norwegian as we were not super happy with our last cruise, so we will take a wait-and-see approach to seeing if things improve. This decision is not just based on vloggers but also on others' reviews and our own history.
  15. I haven't watched it yet, but I have seen their Epic takedown. I watch them regularly, as my wife and I enjoy the content. But it is just their opinion based on facts and reality as they see it on each cruise. It is just another data point to use when deciding on cruises.
  16. Our 2025 Alaska on Riviera cruise appears to have gone down by about $250pp on an A3 with the changed benefits but is still about $720pp more than when we booked. We are still waiting to see if there is ever a good sale, but we have only watched the prices go up and up and up.
  17. Since this is an NCL-owned company, I expect the bidding system/company to be the same one they use (which I think is what ALL the mainstream cruise lines, even airlines, use). It does have its good side, as we've gotten some good upgrades on NCL in the past for much cheaper than just booking the same cabin outright. It's how many folks get into the Haven to try out, including ourselves (inside to a balcony and Club Balcony to Courtyard Haven).
  18. Is the Concierge Lounge "locked" at any time, or is it open to card access 24 hours a day? On HAL, they lock the Neptune Lounge at a particular time, so there is no access to the luxury coffee maker at odd hours.
  19. I am diabetic, so do they have a more extensive selection of diet or zero-sugar options? It was a simple joy, but I got excited onboard during our last HAL cruise when I discovered they had several Zero-type sodas available.
  20. We will be going to Alaska on the Riviera next summer, so my wife has a quick question on the Simply More beer/wine with meals deal: Is there a specific price point or menu you can choose? We are used to drinks packages on mainstream lines, where there is always a price point.
  21. I'm sorry to hear about that. Our last three dining experiences in the PG were extremely good, and we were quite happy.
  22. Is this ship sailing from Vancouver or Seattle? If Seattle, it may close the day you get to Victoria as you are very close to US waters and not open again. (NCL does this).
